Re: (313) Track ID
Well, you are correct about it being repressed. Try a good dozen or so times thanks in part to the supply and demand factor of old schoolers in the UK (mid 90's) and the breaks popularity of Florida state. I saw this first hand in the shipping/ receiving department at Watts (circa '95/96) where a skid would flow in from Henry Street (yes, the label responsible for Kenny Dope's "The Bomb" by the contagious Bucketheads) and be desolved by mid afternoon to just about every corner of the planet. I'd have to say the main reason was simply the popularity of that annoying sample stolen by Urban Takeover's mainman, Mickey Finn who dropped the nasties on the flipside cut, "Boom Box". It's just too bad things didn't go better for Fourth Floor/ EXperimental/ Fokus which all seemed to lose steam around '94 when house really took over Northcott and Silvio only pushed the hits. - Original Message - From: MM <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>Date: Fri, 05 Sep 2 003 11:36:38 -0700 To: Eric Scuccimarra <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>Subject: Re: (313) Track ID alright i figured this out for you i don't have it anymore ,but i just asked my super secret record source lol... which lucky for me happens to be my older brother... (313) NYTimes.com Article: Metro Briefing: New York *CLUBS*
Metro Briefing: New York August 22, 2003 MANHATTAN: DEPORTATION FOR CLUB OWNER Peter Gatien, former owner of the nightclubs the Limelight and the Tunnel, has been ordered to leave the country. At a hearing on Wednesday, Judge Elizabeth Lamb of the Executive Office of Immigration Review, part of the Justice Department, ordered Mr. Gatien deported. Mr. Gatien, who pleaded guilty in 1999 to tax evasion, was born in Canada. He was ordered removed under a clause in immigration law that says any immigrant convicted of an aggravated felony can be deported. His lawyer, Benjamin Brafman, did not return repeated telephone calls. Mr. Gatien was acquitted in 1998 of charges that he turned his nightclubs into drug dens. But he and his wife pleaded guilty in January 1999 to state tax evasion charges. The clubs were sold in 2001. The origins of techno are pretty well documented right? and we see, from what we read hear, where some of the sounds/ideas/structures come from. e.g. 'No UFO's', or 'Sharevari', or 'Clear' all had electronic music come out before them, from which you can deduce that certain ideas or whatever were taken from. (P-Funk/Kraftwerk/Italo/Chicago/Disco) But, I was thinking - what came before Italo Disco? where on earth did some of those producers get some of their ideas from? It was early days, synths and drum boxes were just coming on to the market, and were barely affordable, but the prices were coming down. Anyone know anything about this? I picked up a copy of that Vangelis Bladerunner thing on the car boot sale yesterday, and its fairly clear that the Italo 'Hypnosis' versions were covers/dancefloor remakes of this. So, did the italo guys remake alot of stuff does anyone know? Did alot of their ideas come form electronic classical/experimental stuff? supposedly also Italy's 'cosmo' scene was pretty wild, someone said to me they were doing/playing loads of wild stuff before Mr Hardy picked it up. round about '79/'80/'81 onwards anyone know any more, or any info on the net anywhere? I could've sworn Dave Clarke was up to no good after seeing the 22min. .avi from Impulz (17 FEB 2001) in Holland where he choreographed the fine sampling and effects features most others deejays tend to leave out of there sets. (313) Tresor 198
Pardon my opinion, I don't find Marc's latest creation to be very 313 in the slightest way especially after so many people proclaimed his classic attempts to be regulatory submissions of Mr. Pennington's rather ingenious* nocturnal diary. The desired effect is created and lavished upon with its gross aroma of sadistic distorted effects and over-melancholic traits suggesting his more formable years as studio henchmen in Frankfurt at the young age of twenty-three. This intoxicating album lives up to his moniker without fail and will surely keep Tresor in good standing with the unmentionables of the extreme underground. But nevertheless, a concert is was what I was expecting and a concert I can get with. On the other hand this was an audience watching intense men working on their pcs. Is this a new frontier in concert performance? I doubt it. During the performance, I suggested to my friend that it would have been just as feasible and perhaps more enjoyable to experience the performance at another venue, with the music streamed via ISDN or something. Being at that place during the 'show' seemed pretty pointless to me. The exhortation by the woman who introduced the event, implying that visits to the lavatory would be frowned upon didn't help. However - I was with friends who saw Stockhausen perform with a similar format using not much (I think) not much more than himself and a laptop. In that case, the audience were encouraged to shut eyes or concentrate on a small dot of projected light, whilst the auditorium was darkened - which I think would make sense.
