(313) why lie on your bio (Tim Baker)

2004-05-24 Thread houseman04
I was on the Tim Baker website the other day and it says he grew up in Detroit.
Now that is not true. I work in Ann Arbor, an I work with someone who went to
middle school and high school with him. At first I didn't believe him until
they just showed me yearbook pictures from his middle school (scarllet) and
High School (Ann Arbor Huron class of 85) Pictures. Detroit and Ann Arbor are
two different cites socially and geographic why do people lie just to say the
are from Detroit?

Re: (313) why lie on your bio (Tim Baker)

2004-05-24 Thread houseman04
Well, people who grew up in NY say I grew up in Bronx, Harlem etc. So it should
read John Doe grew up in the Suburbs of Detroit in Ann Arbor. The Ann Arbor
community is very Socially and economically different than the city of Detroit.
So a person growing up in Ann Arbor is going to have a totally different life
experiences than one growing up in the city of Detroit in the 80s an 90's. I
remember when people from Ann Arbor wouldn't dare to go to Detroit for anything
but a tigers game. Now the go for hockey, clubs, casinos and more.

Let's back up for a minute.

houseman04: Did you grow up in Southeastern Michigan? You mentioned
that you work in A2, but are you originally from the area?

I can understand that, if you're not from the area, you could see this
as a potentially divisive and confusing issue. But it's really very
common for anyone from basically east of Jackson to the lake (not to
mention north of Toledo to basically...well, the lake) to refer to
 themselves as from Detroit.

It's not meant to be deceiving. It's just that the so-called metro
Detroit area really is thought of as that - satellites around Detroit.
And the area in question is REALLY large.

When people ask me where I'm from, I tell them Detroit. (I was born in
Warren and grew up in Sterling Heights.) If they then make it clear
that they're actually familiar with the area, I go into suburbs-level
 detail.

 2 more cents,

(313) Movement Thoughts

2004-05-03 Thread houseman04
Is it just me? But it seems like they should have had the movement line up set
months ago. I mean with less than a month to go we don't know anything. Is this
a sign of being unorganized in doing events like this? Will it even happen?

Re: (313) mpc1000

2004-02-25 Thread houseman04
Well if your looking at price yes get the mpc1000. The pads on the 1000 is dope
and you can expand up to 128mb ram also key features are 2 x MIDI In and 2 x
MIDI Out. 32 MIDI channels, Internal preset sounds in flash,
Save/load your sound and sequence data to/from Compact Flash. Those are things
to really go crazy about. But for under 1,200 you should really look into The
Roland Mc-909 its so dope Professional 64-voice workstation with new-generation
XV synthesis, sampling, 16-track sequencer, effects and oversized graphic LCD
16MB sample memory expandable up to 272MB using optional DIMMS, and SmartMedia
storage for sample data.
Hundreds of new high-quality patterns, sounds and rhythm sets; expandable via
SRX-Series wave expansion board.

Studio-quality effects including 24-bit reverb, 2 multi-effects processors,
compression/EQ and mastering effects.

Built-in USB port for sample/Standard MIDI File transfer and User data backup
S/PDIF digital I/O, six analog outputs and stereo analog inputs.

Dual D Beams, Turntable Emulation and velocity-sensitive pads-—plus front-panel
knobs, buttons and sliders to modify sounds and patterns.

New V-LINK function for integrating audio and video in performance.

I have both and they all start with the mc-909 and end with the 909 i hope this
helps.

Re: (313) new things

2004-02-05 Thread houseman04
Me iam feeling this TONY BROWN - Da Gama s Voyage latest release from the NSC
imprint De Gama s Voyage is a techno-infused Detroit-flavored houser, with
some great analog synth play plus some Eastern flavors, while a bumping
bassline groove. and the new Theo is dope, and also picked up carl cox club
traxx. but the tony brown is the hotest.

 so,

now me and Carlos bored you all rigid with 10 emails about theo parrish's
new LP, what else is there to look forward to this month.?

 I'm looking forward to hearing/grabbing the following;

 Carl Craig mix of Beanfield
Carl Craig edits of throbbing gristle
Theo Parrish Rotating Assembly triple LP
Juan Atkins 12 on New Religion
 Dynarec LP on vinyl
 Russ Gabriel LP on vinyl
 the DKD LP
that new Environ 12 thats coming - cant remember what it is
 the 'missing' kdj 16
 MOS002
The Connection machine LP for Downlow.
 FK mix of Kraftwerk

all these are pretty imminent I think. all pretty obvious too.
what else should I be saving my pennies for? any obscurities coming that
any heads have heard that they want to give us the 'heads up'?
dont be ashamed if its your stuff, we wanna hear about it!
