Re: (313) Detroit Soul Questions / Aphex Vibert BDO set

2004-01-19 Thread ionizer

I finally heard the Amp Fiddler album at a friend's and it
 actually picks up
where Mr Fiddler left off, very mellow. I love the title-track,
 and there
was at least one smooth song co-written by Raphael Saadiq. It was
 very
soulful - and RB oriented - the whole set. I understand the buzz.

i cant believe this still isnt out for real yet. how silly. great
 record.

I picked this up in Australia about 5 weeks ago...lots of copies around at
all the stores...strange it hit over here so early...

Also thought Id give my impressions on Aphex Twin/Luke Vibert at the BDO lat
night...I missed the first 20 or so minutes but when I arrived they were
playing what seemed like remixes/alternate takes/different songs using very
similar sounds to alot of the early Caustic Window and Analogue Bubblebath
gear...awesome - Ive read that Aphex has a huge cache of unreleased music,
if this was some of then wow!!! As good as any of his early releases (which
are my favourites). The last alf hour turned into the monster
acid/braindance gear Rephlex specialise in, with a bunch of tracks that
wouldnt sound amiss on the Hangable Auto Bulb ep's. I was very impressed
with the 2 of them using Laptops, we (Brisbane) get very few international
acts, and I havent seen any using laptops ( and maybe even Final Scratch -
not too sure there) before. But to all Australian 313er's - if you ever
liked that early Aphex sound, then try and get to see them play - well worth
the effort. (If you can handle the very large contingent of Metallica fans
;-)))

(313) Edit mania...

2003-12-12 Thread ionizer
Hi there

Looking for some info on a great edit label called Freestyles, got FST01
from clone, apparently it
is something to do with the Idjut Boys. The 12 I have has 2 great tracks,
the best being Chop Shot
Chop by Bunny Hopper. Doing a GEMM search there is a number 4 as well,
just wondering
if anyone has some info on the other 2, or any leads where I could pick them
up.

Thanks

I've got the blue and green Z-tracks.
Also, the white label of UR-40 with a different A-side.

Does anyone know exactly how many copies of these were pressed?

I got this Theo 12 last week in London, really excellent release - 3
low-slung percussive piano led tracks, typically gritty, yet also fresh
sounding. One of the better recent Theo Parrish releases. If youre into
Theo then definitely grab it, if not still worth a listen.

Re: [313] Carl Craig in Australia

2000-06-13 Thread Ionizer

Does anybody have an idea how long mr. Craig is staying in Australia? He is
supposed to play Saturday in the Belgian Fuse-club and that was just
perfect
for me to interview him for Bassic Groove concerning the festival (and the
rest of his amazing career). The boys from Fuse told me that it would be
hard to get him back from Australia in time

\\

I know he is playing brisbane tomorrow (Wednesday night) and I believe that
is the last night of his Australian tour...That should leave enough time for
him to get to Belgium on Saturday..

I read a review saying it wasn't quite as 'warm' as previous
releases. I thought it was pretty 'warm', so I guess these releases
must be pretty darn nice. Any releases in particular?

John Beltran - Earth and Nightfall (RS)
   - 10 Days Of Blue (Peacefrog)
Placid Angles - The Cry (Pecefrog)

All 3 are, IMO, essential.

Did anyone catch him in Brisbane or Cairns? I heard Brisbane was cool.

yeah he rocked in brisbane, shame the sound system was so poor...only heard
the bass and hihats, all the midrange was muddy and subsequently it almost
ruined the set..however the highlight was derrick dropping UR Amazon and
then launching into James Brown and some fabulous Latin Jazz... nice

Re: (313) Sex and Music

1999-09-20 Thread Ionizer

I've been on this list for quite some time now (mostly an observer) and
have
noticed that nobody talks about sex and music on here. In fact, nobody
talks about sex and music hardly anywhere. This puzzles me somewhat, as I
see the two and sometimes going hand in hand. Similarly, both are a
natural
part of life for me, and I assume that they must be for others as well.
Why
not discuss the two together in a mature, unperverted way?

Sometimes I listen to electronic music and see it as being *about* sex.
And
I'm not just talking about the kind of music that DJ Funk spins, either.
I'm talking about a lot of house music, and a lot of techno and IDM, too.

What about stuff like Pete Namlook...deep, slow, and lasts for ages...

Basic channel, but has to be a good mix...especially M04...deeep

Mr Fingers, Deep house, especially vocal, m

Depeche Mode alsolotsa women love that voicedeep and soulful, and
the bass is great too
