I heard Pete Tong was going to be riding around Hart Plaza on a tricycle, 45s
stapled to his forehead, mouthing the words to "Last night a DJ saved my Life"
and begging for loose change. Should be interesting.

It's a record store trying to generate sales of pulply, commericalized dreck
on the back of what was a legitimaite, genuine, spontaneous combustion of human
endeavor. Disgusting. Of course there will always be commerical minded people
trying to make a buck of someone eleses integrity, but it just sucks when it's
so blatant. It's even more disheartening when it shows up on the 313 list. It's
like someone showing up at an oasis surrounded by thirsty travellers and that
one idiot taking a piss in the pond.

The important thing to note about that message is that it only says "Live
Dj's". There's no mention of who they actually are as I assume no one with any
credibility would attach their name to such a crass "Wal-Mart-like" event.

Wow, did I ever wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning.

You can say that again. After throwing my call for quotes out upon the Net, the
Net aswered, very loudly. My inbox just about exploded with the number of
submissions...it's still cowering in a back corner of the hard drive.
Lessons of web contracting work:
1. Just go by word of mouth. Ask around for names and then do the searching
yourself...the good ones show themselves very quick.
2. Don't do open calls, you're just going to get covered in a huge wave of
mediocre shit.

off topic: web design job

2000-04-17 Thread jsanford
Sorry for the off topic post, but I know there must be some web designers on
this list who may be interested...

My boss has given me the go ahead to begin redesigning our website here at
work.
It's really quite simple stuff. The list is like this...
-reorganize the content that already exists on the site. As it is, the site has
gotten a bit unrully and scattered, the presentation of the information needs
to be simplified.
-add some Java scripting (boss wants a news ticker on the front page, perhaps
some buttons)
-add a subscription order form and bulletin boards for various features on the
site.
-add an archiving function for news stories.
-most importantly, revamp the "look" of the site. Right now the thing is pretty
basic, and aesthetically hopeless. The boss is prepared to hire an illustrator,
but if there's a web designer out there with graphic arts ability that would be
great.

Anybody care to guesstimate how much this might cost? If anybody is interested
in talking more about the project, and maybe making a bid for it, contact me
off list.

cheers,

jeff

Part of it was filmed in Toronto. I used to live in Windsor and spent a lot of
time in Detroit. Now I live in Toronto. Almost two years ago I was driving
along (in Toronto) and noticed the Spirit of Detroit on a garbage can. I didn't
think anything of it, nor did I bat an eye when I looked up and one of the
street signs read West Grand Blvd. The cues were registering, but my brain
didn't think anything odd.
Only when I passed a film crew wheeling some lights around did it hit me, fuck,
I'm 250 miles from Detroit. I later found out I was driving through the set for
Detroit Rock City.
It was lovely, I shed a tear.

It's good. Nice mid-tempo tech-house, classy and refined, if that makes sense.
I like it, play it at work a lot, but I've also heard it's not as good as the
second volume. Trade a tape? Email me privately

With the logical extreme being every person having an email list about their
own address. I can't see that being too interesting unless you really think
what you do is great enough to tell yourself all about. Ouch, my brain is
broke.

I'd like to see a DJ with a shirt that says, "Who the fuck is Jeff Mills?" (or
Richie, or May, etc...)

I'm glad somebody finally asked about Mills new years eve. I was starting to

world it narrows my choices a bit. So, ah... what the fuck is Earthcore? And in
what National Park?
