Re: [313] Ford and Atkins
..atleast it probably wont be as europoppy or trancey as some of those oldsmobile alero commercials and some other poorly done attempts at using dance music to sell a car.. ..i also think that its cool that they are using an older track by Atkins.. even though they are advertising a new product.. _ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. Re: [313] demf cancellations/ me neither - influences
as well - i didnt think that the roots and mos def were from the D? I don't think that was the point; they probably wanted to get a hip-hop audience in and those artists will appeal to hip-hop and electronic music audiences alike yes..thats true and i think it will help bring out the black audience that many fear will not be present at demf...unfortunately, im sure there are alot of willing hip hop acts from detroit that are being overlooked..it just doesnt seem that the need to outsource in detroit is necessary when it comes to hip hop.. ..peace.. lil' robbie .associated pressure. Re: (313) Info Oliver Ho + Justin Berkovi?
..if anyone has a chance to catch oliver ho live definitely go..he is a really good dj which is nice since i dont find all quality producers to be anything more than mediocre dj's...he knows how to rock a party..christian smith, marco, cari, alexi delano, adam beyer(of course) gaetek(awesome).also laidback luke is really good too.. ..who has seen space djz? id love to see them!! ..anyone have any other suggestions of some tribal techno dj;s i should check out live btw.any detroit promoters thought of getting these guys inother than the nye event with dbx..most of them i have seen in phryl related events down here in canada.. ..id like to know of some up and comers as well? sidenote..if anyone is interested in doing a set for a party up here in canada give me a shout..im looking for a mid august event to throw.. ..cheers.. __ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
Re: (313) latechno
http://www.calendarlive.com/music/2305/t21603.html that article is quite funnyi dont know if this attitude is isolated to LA though... Part of the appeal of deejaying is that it requires little, if any, >musical talent. All you need, as Beck once sang, is "two >turntables." oh thats why its popular... Tim Woolworth, a salesman at Hollywood's Guitar Center, said he >often sells the kits to kids as young as 7 and 8. "They see their friends [deejaying]. They see it on MTV. They see it >everywhere," said Woolworth. "Deejays are becoming, for lack of a better term, rock stars," thats quite the article...anyone else read it? __ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
Re: (313) Tribal Techno/Ben Sims kicks ass???
..as far as tribal goes im really into oliver ho,joel mull and the meta camp..im interested in knowing more on tribal techno myself.. I don't think that the "Rave Scene" is necessarily a great place for techno, although at the same time I do hope that techno DJs continue >to infiltrate the rave scene and bring their own sounds to those who >will listen--which is exactly why I play parties ..i honestly dont go to many parties that dont showcase techno..which often ends up with few parties that i want to go to..other than phryl parties http://www.phryl.com i cant say i see many techno dj's at raves much..the last party i was at in detroit had one techno dj there..its definitely not mainstream and i feel that if techno was to become really popular it would have already happened.. ..for some reason the techno heads get dubbed as the techno snobs because its not all happy to most ears and most of us feel very strongly about it..the same way in which the "tech-step" style of dnb gets dubbed as being liked by the angry junglists out there...techno has connected to any sense of mine or feeling at some point..to group all techno as being angry or dark would be ridiculous.. ..most of the techno i see at club nights similar to motor..this doesnt bother me really but the obscurity of warehouse parties has a warmth in me for sure..why dont more promoters book techno acts anymore..even mills in toronto ,.he was the only techno dj in a room of house and trance...im assuming that there isnt that many promoters that care about techno because it might not bring in the type of revenues..im looking forward to see the turnout of phryl' party in detroit.."disconnected" which has billy nasty and umek..as well as detroit names.. ..are there alot of techno parties goin on that im not hearing about in detroit cuz most of the stuff i hear about at actual rave parties is largely not techno.. ..cheers.. __ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

I do remember a couple of years ago (just after the New Beginnings LP), when Colin McBean said he wanted to split with Cisco Ferreia, not because of personal differences but because the wanted to explore different directions for an unspecified time. Haven't heard much solo output since, but the release Alan speaks of sounds interesting. By the way, New Beginnings was possibly the strongest techno release of 96-97. Re:(313) TP
..I thought TP did an amazing set in guelph, ontario a few weekends back. It seemed very spontaneous, full of soulful style and attitude and as i assumed once again, he was not afraid to take chances which ultimately paid off IMO with the crowd responding very well to all the bomb dropping beats and razor sharp cuts.. ..I still havent knowingly heard the donna summer track that was talked about on this list but i may have heard it since TP had mentioned that he liked using it in his sets and got a good response from it in the past.. Was this track played in his set at motor? oh btw-how was kimble collins? ..cheers..
