Curtis Jones, aka Green Velvet, aka Cajmere re-starts his highly acclaimed house imprint with a gorgeous piece of vocal house from Walter Phillips. Chicago native Walter Phillips began singing professionally in the early nineties as a backup singer for acts such as Adina Howard, Kool Moe Dee, and the Outhere Brothers. From the success of these collaborations, Phillips gained attention from the legendary RB act Club Nouveau, eventually becaming a regular member and spent most of the mid nineties recording and touring with the group. Phillips's most widely recognized effort was the 1997 Cajmere hit Only 4 U on Cajual Records. His unmistakably smooth singing style helped propel the single to a top ten position on the US Billboard Club charts and a crowd favourite on dancefloors across the globe. Strangely though, Phillips decided to keep his name off the single, fearing that the attention of a dance hit would side track him from focusing on the other RB projects he had been working on. Fortunately for Cajual, Phillips four years later, has a little different perspective on the music scene. While he has been writing RB influenced material with such notable talents as Mike Dunn and California based Mo Kutz, Phillips has now decided to plunge into the dance music scene, with a full length LP expected to be released on Cajual later this year. The tentatively self-titled album will combine both house and RB, featuring the slick production work of Chicago house luminaries Cajmere and Mark Grant, among others. i had a mate who went from DJing 313 to Dnb...and he always said dnb was easier to mix because there was more drum sounds...there were more audio clues..he reckoned it gave you a quicker reaction time as you could hear sooner if something was out. makes sense if you think about it. on 10/5/02 11:04 am, Mann, Ravinder [CCS] at [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: The LTJ Bukem cover photo oh man does he look stoned... reminiscent of the old 70's reggae album sleeves... nice vibe to the track selection but patchy mixing in parts... but dnb must be a nightmare to mix... rav -Original Message- From: Tim Maughan [SMTP:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, May 10, 2002 10:42 AM To: - BT -; 313@hyperreal.org Subject: Re: [313] laurent garnier mixed cd from react. also the Derrick Carter mixmag CD is one of my all time favourites. on 10/5/02 9:23 am, - BT - at [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Joining the performance line up over the three-day Memorial Weekend May 25th, 26th and 27th at Hart Plaza will be Subterraneous and Dilated Peoples. Detroit Hip-Hop is breaking through not only here, but nationally as well, said Mike Huckaby, member of the DEMF Artistic Board of Directors. Both of these groups bring a different style of Hip-Hop to the table and they truly represent the underground. Subterraneous is known as one of the most influential underground Hip-Hop crews coming out of Michigan. The group consists of OneManyArmy, Decompoze, Magestic Legend,Malaki, Illite and Phrikshun. The group has garnered a positive reputation for displaying their individual styles and then coming together during a performance to demonstrate a unique and powerful presence. The group recently released their latest album Waterworld Too. They are scheduled to perform prior to George Clinton's 8-p.m. performance on the DEMF stage at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, May 26, 2002. For more info on the group go to www.subterraneousrecords.com. Nationally acclaimed Dilated Peoples, formed in the mid-90s, has been blowing the scene up with raging underground singles such as Third Degree and Work the Angles before they embarked on a wildly successful road trip with a film documentary about hip-hop DJs. The group has been featured in REMIX magazine and is noted for their recently released album Expansion Team. Dilated Peoples is well known for providing original and inspiring performances for fans. They are scheduled to perform following a 6 p.m. live jam session by Advent on the DEMF stage at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, May 27, 2002. For more info on the group go to www.dilatedpeoples.com. Meanwhile, the wildly popular and internationally known Ministry of Sound has claimed an envious and prominent position as a stage co-sponsor on this year's new DJ Tower. They share a co-sponsorship with Miller Genuine Draft where top-notch performers such as DJ Zapp, Adam X and the DEMF's own member of the Artistic Board of Directors K. Hand will musically spin techno fans to higher heights of dance and sound. We are extremely happy to have the Ministry of Sound join this year's festival, said PCM president and festival founder Carol Marvin. They represent the absolute best in electronic music entertainment. This multi-media giant is marketing the festival in 23 U.S. markets alone to demonstrate once again their ability to provide fun for fans on a scale unmatched by anyone else in the business. Their presence on the new DJ Tower at this year's festival promises dance like never before. The annual Detroit Electronic Music Festival is known as the world's largest free dance party that attracted 1.7 million visitors to last year's event and attracted a reported $147 million in economic impact to metro Detroit. -end- - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] - To unsubscribe,

It was a good set (as always - imo ;-) it got the crowd dancing after a poor set from Tom Middleton (Destiny's Child remix? What you playin at Tom???) I get the impression that Dave Clarke Electro sets are limited to certain nights (Headstart / Atomic Jam) so perhaps many of you only know him for the bangin techno style he's more famous for. Hearing him play electro lets you see things from a different angle and you realise that he's not all just about bangin a tune in. Just interested to hear some other opinions. Big shouts to the Telepathic One and Kelli for really putting on a show. I bailed around 9:30 because I was starving, and headed over to Greektown for some grub. Then commenced the afterparty circuit, starting with the Camillian Cafe (300 Monroe at Randolph) which is actually a very nice coffee place. I missed Gerald (Matrix) who played around 7, but Dwayne Jensen and Mike Clark were heating it up when I stopped in around 11. He played a white label of a new vocal track, and his singer was there but with no microphone all she could do was a lip-sync to her vocal, but she definitely put some serious diva energy into it :) It's quite cool to see Detroit house making a big comeback; I talked with D-Ha (Derwin Hall) later at the MI party, he's coming out with some new ones shortly after a long break. Then off to the Round Table Records showcase; this is a crew from Toronto that's associated with an interesting bunch of labels including Chair, 21/22 (hey Ed Luna, where were you?), Polaris and Public Transit. Saw a bit of DJing and some live stuff with a cool singer, this was all at a loft right on Gratiot. Then the UR party at the Johanson Gallery, which was pretty packed when I got there, I heard a bit of both Suburban Knight and Rolando. Finally, home, more or less, to the Music Institute reunion in a loft on W Grand River, where Alton Miller, D Wynn and D May were on the decks.
