Re: (313) Ben Sims kicks ass???

Clearly his hiphop past is reflected in his mixing. I saw him do stuff I've
never seen a dj do before.

You've obviously never heard of/seen Terrence Parker or Jeff Mills then!

2000-03-08 Thread workz_uk

I hear ya, but Ben Sims is a good producer too. Being a good dj AND a good
producer is kinda rare but increasingly important if you want to be
recognised.

Yeah looping old tracks is difficult. (sarcasm)

Jeff Mills gets a lot of respect for his production though I don't think it's
all that great.

You fucking idiot! Sorry, Your joking right?

Ah man, I don't know what to say to this, what do you say to this?

Maybe Jeff Mills used to be good but I feel he's surpassed by the likes of
Claude Young.

Oh man your value. stop it please I can't laugh anymore.

Jeff's too busy messing about making so called experimental tunes when he
should be knocking dancefloor tunes together.

I won't go on slating you anymore, I think Tom, Joseph and Alan ripped you up
on this comment.

How far must we keep 'pushing the boundaries'?

We'll never stop!

2000-03-05 Thread workz_uk

Just a thought,

I'm not sure what anyone else thinKs, but I get really annoyed and feel
somewhat ripped off when an artist realeases an EP with only two tracks (the
two that broke the camels back today where the latest releases from Joey
Beltram and KDJ, moods and grooves) Both Artist offer great quality and in fact
both the tracks on the KDJ release where good, one of the Beltram tracks was a
little weak, but the other was really good and fresh for Joey.

however, I get the feeling that when an artist releases an EP with only two
tracks on it that a) they don't have any other material or b)they're trying to
cash in! or both!

Am I right?

(313) Lost: last Saturday Derrick May....

2000-02-17 Thread workz_uk

Appologies for the late post!

Last Saturday was the second time hearing Derrick May in 3 weeks, however i
preferred his set two weeks earlier at the Kozzmozz night!

I arrived as Mr. Bicknell was half way through his set, it was the usual thing
from the lost recordings star.

I was eagerly anticipating the arrival of the Surgeon as I hadn't heard him mix
before and was told that he wasn't that good. Mr. Child gave us some excellent
records new and old, as well as some insights as to how they should be played.
Although the mixing was good, there was some silly mistakes!

Step up Derrick May still sporting that kinda afro thing he has going on at the
moment. What can I say the guy is a genius, a top quality DJ
I get the feeling May feels that he can play what he wants at lost parties. He
played that 'tribal' track again, mixing James Brown into that and then a
moodyman tune after that...

The night on the whole was ok. Steve Bicknell was playing some whites by local
talent, one of which is a close friend of a friend, so look out for a guy
named..

Steve Bicknell still proves to be the lord of British techno, offering us the
best in club and DJ.

The surgeon proved to me at least that he CAN mix.

And Derrick May what can I say he is the 'innovator' and is proving to be
leading the way at the beginning of the new century!

Thanks,

WorkZ

the stock mainly comes from their personal collection along with stuff that
friends have given to them.

I was in there on Thursday, it was like heaven. I was surrounded by Hard to
Find records, like you wouldn't beleive!

They had - Trax, Slater's PAS, Sneaky trax, DJAX, Relief, Acacia, Metroplex,
UR, Axis, PM, Dance Mania, M-Plant, Drama, other old chicago and Detroit gems
and loads more.

They sell new releases and available records but it was the H-T-F records that
I was interested, you know, the records you've heard about or always wanted to
hear, well shit half of them where hear!

I purchased;

M.C.M 'Mind Control' on Rhythm Beat
(yeah it does have that track)

and in the bargain bin;

Man Train (Marco Carola) 'First Planet' on Design Music

The Shadow (Trackmaster Lou) 'The Lurking Shadow EP' on Making Madd

Paul Johnson Relief 759 'No Big Thang' :)

The Movement 'Feelings of This' on Trance Fusion

K Hand 'Everybody' on Acacia

Thanks to everyone at Small Fish, I know I pissed them off, i must have

It isn’t much of a surprise that a production as large as this is coming
from a City known for its world class manufacture of a product that has been
in the making for nearly twenty years: Detroit Techno.

This tour, featuring some of Detroit’s premier pure techno artists, is
setting out to cross the Atlantic and take over the continent. The line-up
is as hardcore as the production team making this event happen—Technology
Productions embodies its roots as an electronic militia.

Technology is a Detroit-based production company that has organized over
eighty events throughout America. The team has assembled some of Detroit’s
favorite artists over the past five years for a Detroit-styled show. The
mission is to bring a complete tour package to Europe that is the first of
its kind. This is a unique opportunity for club and event promoters.
Overall the troop is representing both the old and new school sounds of
Detroit with this powerful and diverse lineup. There is no question that
this is one of the largest undertakings to come out of Detroit in ‘99.

As the tour prepares for infiltration, the anticipation is astounding. Tune
