Re: (313) Bent Crayon

2005-03-10 Thread skept
i can't speak for ordering of off the internet but i go to the bent
crayon every other weekend to buy records and the customer service etc
is great. the selection is the best by far. however, i have noticed that
the website is often incongruent with what is in stock. i am not sure
why this is. i would suggest calling to get records. the guy who works
there is really knowledgeable and would probably be willing to help you out.

A quick search through the 313 archives says they are the best, but
definitely call or email instead of ordering on the website

They don't have all the records they list. You have to either email or
call to find out what they really have.
I was going to place an order with them about a year ago. I emailed them
only to find out they only had about 1/3 of what I was looking for (and
what they listed was in stock). The time it took to get a reply was a few
days as well. You have to give them your cc # over the phone or break it
up in multiple emails. It's a pain in the butt and makes an otherwise good
shop bad.
That said, there were always friendly.

I wish these types of shops would sharpen their game -
there's just no reason anymore for record store websites that are badly
designed, a struggle to navigate, and complicated to order from.

Anyone here had any experiences ordering vinyl from the Bent Crayon website?

My girlfriend tried this yesterday and after selecting the merchandise
she wanted and entering her address, she was told that the shipment was
on its way - but she never entered any credit card info!

Has anyone else had this experience? Don't tell me they ship COD...

Most of the time I phone John when I want to order from him...it seems like
website databases are never up to speed, so I find that it's best to give a
call. I don't think John would ship COD unless he knew you awfully well.

And knew for sure that you really wanted it. I'm not sure about the
website ordering, as I always called or emailed. But I can tell you
this: bentcrayon is the best there is!

hey mike. i am fortunate enough to live a few blocks from BC's
brick-and-mortar site. john c runs a great shop [funky little neighbourhood
in cleveland]... if you give the them a call, they are more than happy to
tell you what they have. in-stock listings on their website can be sketchy
but hey, give 'em a call. i got lucky one day and acquired a sealed copy of
stasis-inspiration on vinyl!

 regards,

Ever order from them? Can you give me feedback? They have a lot of
titles/labels/artists that Groovetech doesn't or is out of stock on so I'd
like to order from BC but would like the peace of mind. Please respond
directly to me and off list.

Thanks

i am fortuneate enough to live only a few miles away from the BC, easily the
best store for experimental electronic/techno that i have ever been too.

john c knows his shite too, which is a BIG plus vs going to stores where the
ppl are either too cool to talk to you, or don't know what they are talking
about, or sometimes both.

i agree though he needes to update his site more often...last time i looked
he still had a link to the audio from a V/VM show from about two years ago
or something like that.

Bent Crayon is cool, ghetto ordering system last I ordered...have to phone
them with your payment info...and they don't always have what they say they
have but as far as getting what you do pay for, they're A-Ok in my
books.shipped alot quicker than most stores (well except for
groovetech)
