I did buy the Pavel Kostuik (sp?) 'mini-LP' though - buy on sight. Also
Mute, 'Direct Cuts' EP on Running Back. Now *that* is a real
Detroit groove,
 albeit via Frankfurt am Main!

I can definitely second the Mute recommendation: excellent, excellent
record. But I'll have to disagree with it being a real Detroit groove,
it sounds a lot more Chicago (think Ron Trent, et al) than Detroit to
me.

Oh, I stand by my idea of it sounding 'Detroity'! I corresponded with his
label for a review. He is a Detroit head. Although I admit, *sounding* like
Detroit is in the ear of the beholder.

I've had no luck yet at finding that Pavel Kostiuk LP, anybody know how
limited it is?

Perhaps too limited for any copies to reach NZ on their own. Contact Vinyl
Junkies quick:

I saw this yesterday and listened to it too. It's a tool but it's a not too
average one. Side A is just really various ways of doing a breakbeat for
about 7 mins with really not much else going on. It's the least impressive
track. Side B uses a highly processed string sample and not much else, but
it does create a real atmosphere. I listened all the way through and there
is no variation, hence my assignment of it as a tool. It could be useful for
some folks who like to drop things in only as an interval between another
mix, before the other track is out - or as a very long accompaniment to
something with more definition or whatever.

I doubt it's anyone well-known trying to create a stir - although ok, it
really isn't anything that special. I didn't buy it.

I've been sent a 12 with no info with it today - all it has on it is
Underground Vol 1 Detroit and that's it. - Side B is a needs-ish (I'm
reminded of walking through circles) fairly hypnotic house track. Anybody
any ideas at all?

For London 313'ers a bit of Spam. Bleep43's nano-festival, 86, kicks off on
Saturday at our fave venue, Public Life and runs until Sunday evening (with
a short break for sleeping ;) )

Check www.bleep43.com for flyer, timetable and other info.
