Re: (313) hi-tech soul on sale

2006-08-05 Thread Ramon Crespo
We had a screening here in Miami with Gary and it was great. Nice to
put a face to some of these names. For the heads or for those
interested in the history of this genre of music that we love so
much. I ordered mine from plexifilm so I still have a few weeks
before I receive it :)

There's still a few more screenings according to Gary .. New York ,
Australia , New Zealand.

Regards,
Ramon

This is the first documentary film to tackle the history of techno

The DVD is in all-region NTSC format and is presented in its

Highly recommended!

NO! Err... I've just decided not to anyway. ;) Best to be irrationally firm
and closed-minded about these things I reckon. It's much cheaper that way.
Worst-case scenario you figure out you're wrong way too late and the best of
the wax is terminally unavailable. This discussion seems to be everywhere at
the moment. A guy on a message board I'm on quoted another guy on another
message board I'm not on with the best description of dubstep ever, silly
bass whoomp party music. :) I'll leave it at that since this isn't terribly
topical. But I like this, so I may as well re-post it here:
http://barefiles.com/download.php?id=464. It's a mix of the Burial album for
Breezeblock.

2006-08-04 Thread dave cronin
yeah. burial is awesome. for those not clocking this,
it's slowed-down two step with some basic channel-type
crackle and hiss (though the producer claims not to be
aware of BC). a couple of the tracks have some nice
vocal elements reminiscent of the early (i.e. good)
days of dnb.

but as much as i like it, i don't see how it's new or
revolutionary. to my ears, it's quite similar to
photek's modus operandi except the drum programming
isn't quite as intricate. (i read somewhere that the
burial guy actually cuts and pastes snare sounds into
loops in sound forge or something.)

and there's certainly some other good dubstep worth
buying, but i have to say that on my last couple trips
to london, i had to listen to a lot of really boring
records to find a couple gems. (though who knows--
those boring records might be ace on a proper rig.
it's tough to spot a cool subbass line over headphones
in a loud record store.)

it's all about the mixes anyways...
