The ears(mind) always adjust and fill in the blanks.

The trick is to repeat this using different formats/codecs

You could do the same visually. Have a woman walk past you in designer
clothing and then again later with a blue light special(trying to look
identical of course). In the first instance her clothes cost 10,000
and in the second instance they cost 100 but your eyes didnt know the
difference so what do you care?

in the grand scheme of things, high-bitrate mp3 (192+kbps) and cd quality
 both suck ass pretty badly.

No they don't, the audio is satisfactory enough to most peoples ears.
CD quality isn't that bad, higher bit rates like 192 are more tolerable.
For example an album like LFO - Frequencies sounds great on CD.

44100hz/16bit just isn't that good to begin
with. armchair audiophiles debate lossy compression vs the uncompressed
originals, but when you're talking cd-quality it doesn't much matter.

sure, anyone can tell the difference between a 128kbps mp3 and the
original. when you encode at 192 or 256kbps though with a good encoder,
anyone who claims to hear the difference is lying. google for a program
called winabx if you don't believe me.

 -j

The only use I have for MP3 format is the music I download off the internet.
Wich is adequate for previewing tracks and DJ mixes but I can easily make
the distinction between CD quality and MP3 quality, my main complaint about
MP3 quality is
the sound characteristic of the audio once it's compressed, you loose the
high
end and the sound is grimy and rough like sand paper.

The more I think about it it really isn't that much of a
hassle to carry around a portable CD player and a CD wallet which is enough
music to keep me entertained during a long commute, add to the fact that
CDR burners are inexpensive and fast and the cost CDR's are also not much
of a factor.

thought he hadn't turned up until someone pointed out it was him. 'Dodgy'

I don't think iPods will replace the traditional setup, but I guess it'd be all
right for
novices. It's like mixing with two CD players with the exception that you could
have two
30GB iPods hooked together and thus over 15,000 songs total to access! Their
slick
units.

I went to the one here at Somerset mall in Troy, Michigan, USA. Matthew Dear
and Sam
Valenti of Ghostly International were there. Matt's a PC guy so this was his
first time with
a Mac-related product. He found it easy to use.

MPEG-4 AAC has been specified as the high-quality general audio coder

into QuickTime 6, and the Digital Radio Mondiale system, the
next-generation digital replacement for radio broadcasting under 30

at lower bit rates, and add scalability or error resilience
characteristics. These additional tools extend AAC into its MPEG-4

.ogg sounds MUCH better than mp3 at lower bitrate. this saves you
space for much much more music. theres much less high end noise
with .ogg as well as cleaner bigger bass sounds.

AAC sounds better than mp3 at a lower bitrate so 196 would probably be
equivalent to 256 mp3s. AAC has native support in the Ipod too.

Vorbis excels at 64-128 but I wouldnt want to archive my music that
way. One of the devs is working on improving higher bit rates, I think
its called GT3 or something but its still in beta and development has
slowed at least according to the folks at hydrogen audio.

Yes, this confused my friends when they went to see him at The End.
They
thought he hadn't turned up until someone pointed out it was him.
'Dodgy'

haircut was how they described it no trademark specs any more.

Too bad MP3 quality sucks, do they store CD quality

I am not going to participate in this thread if it goes past here, but
i'll say this:

in the grand scheme of things, high-bitrate mp3 (192+kbps) and cd quality
both suck ass pretty badly.
