years i don't check that record, though... will have a look for it

its probably similar to having an engineer working on your stuff.
every "real" producer does it, only in dance music is it expected that
the producer also be the engineer.

I'm sure if I had a decent enough DJ profile and made some label

Not sour grapes or anything, but I think it's an interesting situation.
I wonder how many of these "co-productions" are actually that.

Interesting. I just gave his releases from last year an online perusal about
30 minutes ago. Dug the music - wasn't particularly swayed by the vocals.

Re: (313) martin

2003-09-01 Thread James Hurlbut
There is a great new LP of snippets of speeches from various famous
activists and organizers out that includes clips from MLK Jr. The proceeds
benefit
the freedom archives which collect and make available recordings of
speeches and lectures on the topic of social justice. Heres the description
from http://www.freedomarchives.org/vinyl.htm:

The Vinyl Project is a tool for DJs, musicians, MCs, activists and most of
all the people. The soundbites on this record include chilling voices on
repression and glimmering assertations of resistance. The Vinyl Project
collective hopes these sounds will pollinate your beats, noise, melodies
and community.

It looks like 313's own Twerk mastered it, actually, so it has to be
good! I've got a track on my site
http://www.hurlbotics.com/mp3/silent2vocalmix2.mp3 with samples of MLK
Jr.'s infamous Riverside Church speech made a year to the day before he was
assassinated, in which he spoke out against the Vietnam War and declared "
My country, the greatest purveyor of violence in the world today". For some
reason this one doesn't get touted about in the media so much as the I Have
a Dream Speech, but perhaps is equally as important.

i got a copy of Martin Luther Kings speeches on Motown records. its got the
Drum Major speech and in my opinion the Eulogy speech is the best, kinda
sends chills down my spin. MLK speaks what he wants to be said at his
funeral. something to the effect of "dont mention my Nobel peace prise,
mention that i tried to feed the hungry and cloth the poor"

They were both put out by Motown Records orginally.

The first one was the precursor to to the "I Have a Dream" and recorded in
Detroit at Cobo I believe. The speech was preceded by "the great march of
freedom" down Woodward. This is the verision featured on TP's Blackwater
remix. The record is called "The Great March to Freedom."

The second is the more famous speech at Washington DC, which I'm sure most
of you have heard by now. This one is called "The Great March on
Washington"

I hope this helps. I could go into further detail on the history of the
recordings, if you would like.
