And isn't this the Vince 'i make everything, even happy hardcore as long as it makes money' Watson? i sure hope not? http://www.discogs.com/artist/Vince_Watson On 5-dec-03, at 10:43, [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: isn't Bio his own label? -Original Message- From: Ramon Crespo [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Fri 05/12/2003 03:21 To: 313 Cc: Subject: Re: (313) new lp on transmat ?? why? dont you trust derrick may to put out quality material? must a techno record be made by a techno purist to be any good? tom I would have to back up KJ on this one- certainly in terms of the last 6 or 7 Transmat records, the quality is not what I would call earth-shattering so putting trust in the Big D is pretty risky these days. I'm certainly not slating all the releases, just don't think they are particularly amazing or particularly different from what else is out there. I am a huge, huge Transmat fan from way back but it's not a case of me wanting to hear a re-hash of Nude Photo or anything so that's not my problem, just that the general quality threshold seems to dropped dramatically since Time:Space and Aril Brikah cheers Jason On Friday, December 5, 2003, at 07:16 PM, Thomas D. Re: (313) new lp on transmat ??
yeah but it seems he left the gabber/happy hardcore behind in '95-96 and his output since then has been firmly in the tracky tech-house vein (*shudder* I actually used that term) I wouldn't say that he's breaking any new ground - but I'd buy his stuff because it works well and has some interesting touches he's got some good releases like the Moments in Time LP (Alola) - check Rephlexions Energia (Tronic) Nu Patterns (Rotation) Earthtones (Superbra) and his work under the V-Phorms name is quite nice as well MEK kj at technotourist dotTo: 313 Mailinglist List 313@hyperreal.org org cc: [EMAIL PROTECTED]Subject: Re: (313) new lp on transmat ?? 12/05/03 12:25 PM And isn't this the Vince 'i make everything, even happy hardcore as long as it makes money' Watson? i sure hope not? http://www.discogs.com/artist/Vince_Watson On 5-dec-03, at 10:43, [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: isn't Bio his own label? -Original Message- From: Ramon Crespo [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Fri 05/12/2003 03:21 To: 313 Cc: Subject: Re: (313) new lp on transmat ?? Re: (313) new lp on transmat ??
Cool, like I said I wasn't TOTALLY slating the releases mentioned below but when I compare them to the sheer inventiveness and quality of (deep breath) My Medusa, Energy Flash, Strings Of Life, The Groove, R-tyme, Ocean To Ocean, Dark Comedy and even Bang The Party and you also look at the variation in those tracks produced in the golden years and then you compare that to Stephen Brown and Vince's output (and this isn't a personal attack- I've known Vince for years and he's a nice guy) or Rodenbush- that's where I'm coming from basically. cheers Jason On Friday, December 5, 2003, at 07:47 PM, Thomas D. Re: (313) new lp on transmat ??
The last 2 Arnolds on transmat/fragile were stellar in my opinion (they never leave my bag), the Rodenbush was lush disposable crap. It's one of those records you forget what it sounds like the minute you pick up the needle. His last release on immigrant was much far superior (granted I hear the transmat tracks were over 2 years old before they were released). i'm a fanboy of Detroit techno (aren't we all?) or true believer as shake would like to call me. So I do look forward to each new release from some of my favorite labels. But, as my record collection has reached a critical mass over the years, I'm not expecting each new release to be the best thing since sliced bread, if the latest release isn't that hot, I'll just keep playing the older ones. in the meantime Obi wan's recent faves from the D: Theo Parrish True Cities ( Harmione Park ) good stuff, I have to play it at +6 but that's cool w/ me. Mr. De ' - Stretchin out -Wholnleeone is the track for me the Martian - Pipe carrier - Stellar release Mills see the light, - dtill wrapping my head around these, so far the is my favorite. classics that still kill it: Ur Hardlife - classic Shawn Rudiman - Evidence of life - sure he's my boy, but its a hot record (check the new eleventh hour and technoiraudio, too (shameless plug)) Anthony Shakir - Tracks for my Father and Mother- two of my favorites from mr. shakir UR - codebreaker - classic Mills - time machine 12 not worth $300 bucks, but i like it. I could go one, but it's after 4 pm (est) so I should get back to some actual work. jw - Original Message - From: Thomas D.
