I disagree. when i heard the samples online, I was instantly struck by the
intricate interplay and meticulous leveling and layering of the samples from
that winans cut. I'm sure being familiar with the original helps loads because
I can tell where the cuts were made and how much knowledge of harmony and
melodic framework it took to make that track as deep as it is. also with the
b-side, this struck me more as an homage to Gil Scott and crew from concept to
execution. Maybe that's the whole deal with it being a private collection
(cause I'm sure it couldn't be cashola :D ). Meaning that he's aware that only
a select few will be able to relate to the aesthetic he's going for. dunno, I'm
probably wrong though. I rather liked the b-side as the spoken word bits are
s what I heard walking through any random street coming up round my way and
hence they strike a chord in me that most recent music doesn't. I understand
that most can't relate though, and it's probably a good thing. to relate to
that meant that you may have grown up around some seriously slang talking
brothas, plenty of fast shaking junkies and a whole lotta other undesirable
elements (by society-at-large's standards). but to me it speaks of home. it's
not just nostalgia though, it's really well executed in my opinion. I'm feeling
it.

Bebop was about change, about evolution. It wasn't about standing still and
becoming safe. If anybody wants to keep creating they have to be about change.

Agreed. Never thought he'd start making novelty records.

Am I the only one who thinks that the B-side of that new KDJ private
collection is some of the worst music made in the history of
mankind? Sounds
like a soundtrack of a real bad comedy movie. Ooh.. and
listen to those
vocals, just doesn´t make any sense to me. The A-side is not that much
better IMHO. I can´t believe that this is created by the man
who gave us
amazing tracks like J.A.N., Dem Young Sconies, Shades Of Jae,
In Loving
Memory, The Thief That Stole My Sad Days, ...
*just a personal opinion, please do not kill me*
Cheers,
