I also happened to tune in WDTR's Stick It In Your Ear show
on Friday evening. Magic Mike isn't much of a radio DJ,
frankly, but it doesn't matter since he plays decent tracks,
ending with Big Fun this past week.

I searched in vain for booty/bass on the dial on both Friday and
Saturday evenings, I guess that era is over.

back in portland, where radio is totally hopeless...

[313] Detroit radio change ups

2001-07-03 Thread kenneth taylor
Just to let everyone know (as many of you already do) CJAM in Windsor is a
pretty vital part of Detroit's low-wattage radio thang. So i guess I'm
inviting you all to check out my program today (and every Tuesday) from 1
until 2:30 PM on CJAM 91.5 FM in Detroit (and Windsor, of course) or on the
web at http://www.cjam.ca. It's a thoughtful mix of techno, electro, indie,
out-rock, jazz and avant-garde that tends to favor Detroit artists of all
those genres. I'm still trying to think-up a name for the show so any
suggestions can be sent to this address.

[313] Detroit radio change ups?

OT Add-On: Anyone else sorry to see 105.1 (The
 Groove) transform from a
pretty-good soul/funk format into some kinda mess of
 an adult-contemporary
 station?

I noticed this this weekend too. I think the first
sign was last week when they stuck in Mariah Carey
with their more usual sound of Motown soul and funk
that always made my mornings. It seemed the official
transition went into effect this weekend. Why is it
that radio stations give no warning to their listeners
of these things? It doesn't seem right...almost cruel.

Also, what's with 96.3? I tuned in for my usual
listen to Sonic Heaven on Sunday and they had new call
letters and they are playing ALOT more advertisements
for VH-1.

G'bless NPR.

Also...A fun listen on Sundays in Detroit is the
Gospel stations. If you can put any possible religious
beliefs etc. aside, there's some great voices, spirit
and energy in those broadcasts.

WDVD-FM 96.3 Detroit (96.3 'DVD) has repositioned itself more towards Hot
Adult Contemporary instead of Modern Adult Contemporary and is now using
on-air positioners incorporating its WDVD call sign. The station is using
the liner 'Today's Best Variety'

Yeah

Just another reason to turn dat sh*t off. Too bad really, as 105.1 was one
of MAAYBE two stations that would have me singing and bouncin' through all
the construction and mayhem currently barring our way on metro D's jacked
streets and byways.

Okay kiddies now repeat after me...

PROP-AH-GAND-AH.

Also would like to add that I went to see Moulin Rouge the other day and
aside of the fact that the soundtrack was utterly ridiculous and insulting
causing me to finally leave only 1/3 of the way through the film. It was
initiated by the MOST horrendous cinematic advert by our friends at J.
Walter Thompson for techno's best friend the almighty Ford Motor Co. I
think perhaps the word PUTRID could come close to describing what was
exhibited for over 60 seconds. That advert was most paninful to sit through
and literally made my stomach turn.

The most remarkable and only bright spot of the whole thwarted experience
was the fact that the audience booed through almost the whole
cinemmercial.Is there a God after all ??

Plus,

keep in mind that when you listen to WTDR, that it almost fell victim to
the Detroit Radio Change Whirlwind.

Last Summer, the Detroit Public Schools almost sold the spot on the dial
to a group in Detroit that claimed the Detroit dial lacked sufficient
classical representation.

please.

If DTR went off the air, there would be no use to have a radio anymore.
Just hearing O.C. Roberts yell Greetings Detroit every Sat. on the

G'bless NPR.

Well, NPR is a major contirbutor to the fund to prevent low-wattage radio
from becoming more accessable. They, for some reason, feel threatened by
real community radio. If low-wattage radio stations were cheaper then we
might finally hear quality music on the airwaves.
