(313) is it all over my face

2002-10-08 Thread Maarten Baute
Hi,

I have a compilation from Larry Levan with loose joints - is it all over my
face on it. Great disco cut, but I heard someone play a version with a male
vocal in it? This is a different version than the one the larry levan
west-end compilation. Is it a mix featured on the original west end release
back in the day? help!

And second, I am getting more and more into the jazz kind of things.. but I
want to get me some miles davis stuf (pretty obvious).. but I don´t know
wich lp´s I should purchase... any suggestions?

Thanks a lot,
Maarten

As for the Male Version See for yourself :

Best Record of all time in my humble opinion.
West End might have new versions on vinyl but you can find this one on
GEMM fairly easily.

The male vocal is available on the Westend repress 12 (b/w the female
vocal).

Still in print, so most places should have it - probably Rushhour may be a
good bet.

I think the male vocal was the original mix and then the female vocal came
on a second issue later on after it blew up in the clubs.

There are two versions. Originally Is it all over my face came out backed
with Pop your funk and then got released again with a male vocal backed
with the original female vocal. You can fairly easily find the reissue on
West End that is the male and female vocals.

Miles Davis: my faves are In A Silent Way, Filles De Kilimanjaro and
ESP.

Oh, and the male vocal is actually Arthur Russell himself. Like Danny Wang
on that first Balihu I have often wondered what on earth he is saying. Might
have got which is the original mixed up, so don't believe me on that.

I listen to Panthalassa (Bill Laswell remixes) quite a lot and enjoy it
tremedhously. Its mixes of his electric period.

Same sort of funky jazz fusions as Herbie Hancocks Headhunters LP but
Panthallassa has a lot more atmosherics, effects and 'deepness'. Most of its
resonalbly close to the source materail.

Most Purists dont like it by the way.

Apols for the terrible typing today...

2002-10-08 Thread Fabrizio Nahum
Hi,
my all-time jazz favourite si L'ascenseur pur l'enchefaud - soundtrack to
the french film noir of the same name - by Miles Davis (1954 iirc). The film
is by Louis Malle and its with Jeanne Moreau.
Brilliant atmospheric cl jazz, composed by Davis by watching the scenes
and improvising along.

Another interesting note: the trumpet produced a unique sound for some songs
on that record due to the fact that a piece of skin from Davis' lip entered
the blower modifiying the sound of the trumpet

bye
fab.

I have this reissue as well as a Male vocal version on the Nuphonic Loft
Compilation- correct me if i'm wrong, but the male vocal version on the
Loft Comp is different (better in my opinion) than the one on west end-
was there an original pressing for the male vocal version on the loft
comp?

I'm guessing that one is the original, then (oops), and the other is the
Larry Levan mix from the second release on West End. I told you not to
believe me.
