Re: [313] MUSIC? THEO !track list stuff up

2002-02-04 Thread Sam Karmel

Just wondering?

On my copy of the sound signature sounds cd on the
back of the cd the tracklisting is as follows.

1. Shadow Dancing
2. Moonlight
3. Ebonics
4. Dan Ryan (feat. Jerrald James)
5. Dance Of The Drunken Drums
6. Lake Shore Drive
7. Took Me All The Way Back
8. Lost Keys
9. Music Pt. 1
10. Dusty Cabinets

although in the inner sleeve the tracklisting is...

1. Shadow dancing
2. Music Pt.1
3. Ebonics
4. Dan Ryan
5. Dance on the Drunken Drums
6. Took Me All The Way Back
7. Lake Shore Drive
8. Carpet People Dont Drink Steak Soda
9. Lost Keys
10. Night of the Sagitarius

The first tracklisting is the right one but why is
there a false tracklisting on the inner sleeve

the conspiracy must be solved or..

I prefer the white "First Floor Metaphor" on Peacefrog myself. At $25/each,
I couldn't afford both, and I already had the track from Baby Steps that was
re-released on the black one. I've played out 4 of the tracks on the white
one. It's tasty. :)

Try finding the 2 '3 chairs' compilations on Peacefrog. There are some
classic tracks from theo on those 2. One of my favorite Sound Signature is
that double pack, number 9 if i am correct. As for remixes i would recommend
his remix of Larry Heard's Missing You on Trackmode.

Sound Signature is maybe the only label I have everything on, but if I had
to choose particular releases to recommend they'd be:

003 3 Chairs Revisited - KDJ, Rick Wilhite & Theo
004 Pieces of a paradox - for "Dusty Cabinets"
006 Overyohead/Dance Of The Drunken Drums - both are 2 of his best tracks.
010 I Can Take It - remix of Recloose's "I Can't Take It"
013 Sons Of Osiris/Violet Green - for that saxophone bit

Also essential is the black "First Floor" with the superb "Heal Yourself &
Move". As I say, I think it's all worth picking up, though. AFAIK, the other
guy on the blue and blue labelled record (Essential Selections), Marcellus
Pittman, hasn't done anything else.

Re: [313] MUSIC? THEO !

2002-02-04 Thread james boylan

I bought two Sound Signatures recently...both of them excellent.

One had an orange, white and blue label - a Theo Parrish collobaration with
some other dude whose name escapes me.

And the other was called Violet Green by someone whose name also escpaes me.

Can anyone recommend other Sound Signature/Theo Parrish stuff worth getting
and anything by the Violet Green composer that might be good too.

Thanks.

I picked this up, too. Maybe not quite as strong as some other releases,
but

still, for me anyway, head and shoulders above most. I had a bit of a
nightmare yesterday with it, though: whilst I was in bed with a hangover,
my

girlfriend's dad came round and built some shelves. He didn't move the
records underneath first, though, and they got covered in brick dust! I
managed to save most of them (especially the "Love Hangover") but the new
Theo, Nathan Haines "Earth Is The Place" and Barry's "Music Maestro Please"
got it bad - though with "Dirt Rhodes" it's hard to tell whether it's
properly fucked or if it was like that in that first place. If this ever
happens to you: don't brush it off, run it under the cold tap.
