[313] The mystery of The Martian?????
HI Well I think I'm gonna check out the Red Planet night, but I've gotta admit to being somewhat confused by the whole red planet thing. The Red Planet releases have been credited to Will Thomas, have featured James Pennington, Eddie Fowlkes and Juan Atkins and sound like they must be produced by Mike Banks (something I had always assumed to be the case). There have been comments made in the past by Cornelius Harris that suggests that There is no one Martian and that Red Planet, like UR is made up of a number of operatives. So, my question isjust who is DJ Red Planet There was a set at the UR party during the DEMF that featured a strange named Red Planet DJ, who was this and is this the same guy playing the London gig??? It could well be Namowan, who apparently is the engineer for Red Planet. I think that several ops are coming over, but oh the mystery, intrigue etc. ;) - Original Message - From: Stewart Caig [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: 313@hyperreal.org Sent: Tuesday, August 14, 2001 11:15 AM Subject: [313] The mystery of The Martian? Re: [313] The mystery of The Martian?????
Dont know if this is any help but. I was at the Bugged Out night in Glasgow where Red Planet DJ played his first UK gig. This was indeed Namowan (dont know if it will be him in London though). He came on after Justin Robertson who had spun his usual hard house and techno thing. The place went dark, a camouflage net appeared covering the decks and then a red light came on behind the DJ. then came the usual Red Planet/UR and quality detroit tracks. I found the set to be fairly well put together with no fancy tricks (and no bad mixing) but nothing spectacular (certainly not a Rolando, T1000, Hood, Mills... type set). And after seeing Chaos live (with Mike Banks) at the Club 69 gig in January I would certainly recommend going to the Chaos and Red Planet night. Namowan played in London for New Year at Hoxton studios. That was before Bugged Out. - Original Message - From: david beattie [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: 313@hyperreal.org Sent: Tuesday, August 14, 2001 11:11 AM Subject: Re: [313] The mystery of The Martian? Re: [313] The mystery of The Martian?????
Yah I saw Namowan play at the UR party during DEMF. He looked like a little kid to me. Maybe some new UR dj/artist Mike is trying to help out and develop like he did with Rolando. Man! that was a dope night if you were there! The space was small and secret squirell stylo trying to find the place haha I also remember James Pennington playing the sickest UR cut I've never heard before. Definately was Mike Banks all over it...so classic sounding like Galaxy 2 Galaxy jeez it was smokin'!...Clandestine was dope too! Who is that btw!?, the infamous Buzz Goree perhaps? nice to see people talking about good ole classic Detroit on here lately...And I gotta pipe in and say Duplex (all Duplex releases are must buys!) is on it! These guys remind us why Detroit music is so influential. peace - mg __ Do You Yahoo!? Make international calls for as low as $.04/minute with Yahoo!
