[313] Paris (3rd attempt)

2002-04-14 Thread sean.creen
Hi,
this didn't get thru the first couple of times - apologies if it turns up more
than once.
Does anyone know of anything happening in Paris on the 17th/18th May?
Also, are there any Parisian record shops worth checking?
Please reply privately...

Thanks,
Sean.

[313] in an attempt.... Top 10

2001-04-22 Thread Rhythm Droid
I remember posts like these that are basically just what other 313 fans
have playin thru their speakers type things are, which are fun.

So, my current top ten on the TT/CD player are

*Squarepusher- Port Rhombus (Warp)
*Derrick May- Icon (Montage Mix?) (Transmat)
*Aril Brikha- Read Only Memory (Transmat)
*Aril Brikha- Groove La Chord (Tranmat)
*The Jeff Lorber Fusion- Rooftops (Arista)
*The Jeff Lorber Fusion- City (Arista)
*Hi Tek 3 feat. Ya Kid K - Spin That Wheel (yeah, so shoot me, it's from my
childhood

*Ryuichi Sakamoto- BTTB
*YMO- Yellow Magic Orchestra (?)
*Model 500- Ocean to Ocean (Transmat Classics)

somebody else on this list digs Jeff Lorber, too, who was that?

I can see this mutating into a Detroit-centric 'tenth planet
twelves/post-apocalypse platters/desert island discs' type thread...

Current faves:

Stefan Betke: [komfort.labor] presents ~scape (~scape)
Jeff Lorber: Step by Step (Mercury)
Kit Clayton: Live at Mutek 00.06.11 (~scape)
Mikael Stavostrand: Reduce (Force Inc.)
V/A: Pop Ambient 2001 (Kompakt)
Robbie Basho: The Seal of the Blue Lotus (Takoma)
Kit Clayton: Live on Shortwave Radio (Phthalo)
V/A: Lo-Fi Stereography (Lo-Fi Stereo)
Elesbaan: Isoghi Urban Mixes (Isoghi)
Takkyu Ishino: Berlin Trax (Loopa)

Wow, are these both official release on ~scape? When did/do they come out?

Cheers,

Re: ~scape releases (was: Re: [313] in an attempt...)

2001-04-21 Thread Charles Prince
The Pole mix album is on general release, even saw a stack of copies in
one of the dear ol' HMV stores here in Tranna today. Apparently, it took
Betke 6 months to get right, is based on the kind of sets he lays down
in the back room at a Berlin club called WMF where he has a residency. I
don't have the listing handy, but it includes tracks by Vladislav Delay,
Maus Stolle, Kit Clayton, Low Res, Cinematic Orchestra, Flanger, Farben,
Pole himself. An absolutely stunning, innovative mix.

The Clayton at Mutek one is a one-off promo-type thing that a friend of
Betke's slipped me. Heavy, trance-like (in a good, gamelan orchestra-type
way), industrial-strength dub klickery, with lots of extraneous crowd
noise that adds to the tribal feel of the whole experience. I like it
better than the Monolake/Clayton live set I recently heard here, mainly
because he crams so much into 45-50 mins. or so. It never lets up...

That said, Henke Kit's live show really built up over the course of 2 or
more hours until it was absolutely flying. They were running abstract,
sound-synched/triggered video from their macs onto the wall opposite their
live set up, kind of improvised/took their musical cues interactively
from that. The audience could choose to dance, stare at the performers, or
stare at the projected visuals. Worked pretty well, I thought. The random,
free-floating visuals often seemed related to the beautifully 'textured'
images that grace Imbalance/Monolake album covers.

Best,
Wes
