Musical shock

2000-10-16 Thread D . J . Butler
So I pop around my parent's house at the
weekend to try and fix an internet problem
they have.
My mum picks up a cd and says here, what
do you think to this. I saw a write up on it in
the weekend newspaper and it looked really
interesting.
So what is it?... well I never heard of the band,
but the label I certainly did - FatCat records!
The cd is Sigur Ros Agaetis Byrjun.
Blow me down!
Anyone heard this?
I didn't get time to stop and listen.

Anyone else have any surprises from family
like this - great-grandad getting down to
Surgeon's new one?

cheers,

Dan

My mum likes the Jaguar tune and lots of my Dan Curtin
records, she also liked Designer Music Problems and
all of my Good Looking Records stuff. I get my wide
taste in music from my mum anyhow... Not that weird...

Sigur Ros are not really the standard FatCat product - they're a _rock_ band
everyone's been raving about (at least in European indie circles) because
they manage to glue together a very impressive female singer, some
electronics Radiohead-style, and 4AD guitars - this is their second LP, and
it's worth checking out...
About my parents' strange taste : my mother is into
folk/traditional/classical ; one day I noticed she had borrwoed some old
cassettes of mine - including an old Alice Cooper album...
Haven't found any deleted Warp 12s or Drum Codes in my family yet though.

This is a daft but entertaining thread (but don't go off-topic!) ;-)

I had rented out a room in my house to a polish man age 38. he was an
incredible artist and was working in farmington hills as an architect. he
handed me a cd one day and said he had bought it as he was looking for some
modern music to listen to. It was a Josh Wink cd. He didn't really care
for so he gave it to me. I ended up making him copies of Kruder and
Dorfmeister KD Sessions which he really fell in love with.

What do you consider the standard FatCat product? Isn't diversity, quality
and innovation the only things that could describe their stable? I mean,
Immense, Live Human, Process, Matmos, Mice Parade, Fonn, Foehn... Why not
Sigur Ros?

Of course, none of those are 313 material... :))

I just wanted to take this opportunity to wish Juan Atkins a belated Happy

Derrick crosses the same milestone.
