I would like to make some people choose to keep control over there own
music of it...

If memory serves me correctly a major label did offer to sign
 jaguar with
 the
possibility of remixes but UR and DJ Rolando declined.
That track could have easily climbed the Billboard dance charts giving
Detroit techno more exposure in America but some people choose to stay
 underground.

This simply isn't true. Jaguar was milked for all it was

 promo video made, and
Rolando got serious juice in terms of gigs (where he played
 the track multiple
times, plus a lot of other much more commercial tracks than
 had previously
been in his sets) out of all of this.
None of this is to excuse what Sony tried to do, or to dis
 how UR dealt with
the situation, but to say that it could have blown up if
 Rolando had chosen to
let it is pure bullshit (IMO, of course ;-).

Maybe because they already planned a re-release with major remixers, in full
colour sleeve, with major distribution, etc?

 Hi,
No sweat about your post. All views are valid... I was
actually the one who posted that commercial music
is what the public is fed, underground music we have
to SEEK OUT to find, a need of a certain kind of
 people... thing.

I have very strong feelings about music... In fact I
share your views in a way. I saw the new Jaguar
release in HMV the other day... Made me kind of upset.
This tune has been an anthem for everything we stand
for, the passion, the power, our love against
commercialism. It stood for everything, when the
remixes came out I was really quite emotional. I seem
to associate charty commercial dance with all the
people I hate and all the things that have hurt me.
There will be kids into trancy cheese going out and
buying this, not understanding exactly what it means
 to us...

 l8r,
 Nick (Dj Pacific:)

after reading my post, i disagree with most of what
  i said too... i wish i
could take it back, but too many people have read it
  and responded to it, oh
  well.

i guess what i meant to say was i just didn't want
to see too many of the
'wrong' fans in this... i think one of the coolest
  things about going to a
good techno party or even a good techno club is that
  the majority of the
people understand it's about the music, and not the
  glory/image/popularity.
the majority of people who listen to underground
  music have this
appreciation for the music like no other.

i think Jaguar has the huge potential to bring new
  listeners in of all
different backgrounds and musical tastes, it has
  something to satisfy
everybody. i don't think it will necessarily be a
bad thing to show it on
TV, but i also don't think it will necessarily be a
bad thing for it NOT to
show on TV. i guess that was more of what i was
  trying to say.

What I've found with people who aren't into techno with Jaguar is most enjoy
it. I've even sent tapes of just random good tracks to my friends in Florida
and many of them enjoy this track. Some just start asking questions like
what is this genre. Some think its music to sophisticated for them. One of
my friends who is really into breaks/trance thought he should be drinking a
martini to it. Others just beg to barrow it and the remixes or even to buy
it of me but of course I refuse. You can't contain something that is that
good. Yes there will be people who will not respect the track as many of us
will, but to those who start asking questions because they heard it and then
grow to respect and love the music we all do thats great. If they don't
truly like the music than it will pass. They will listen to it for a while
and then it will make its way back to a stack of cds that they don't listen
to anymore and they will forget about it.
If I was watching MTV and into that mostly garbage music I would be glad
someone put Jaguar on it as compared to something by lets say Sonique or
Alice deejay or one of those trendy producers. Maybe Jaguar will reach my
brother by way of MTV and he'll stop listening to the mainstream trash rap or
reach my sister and make her stop being obsessed by those boy bands and their
music they don't make. As much as I don't like Jaguar being broadcasted on
MTV I'm not going to complain because there is good that can come from it.

Most ppl within 10 miles who has heard my techno
rekkids hate all of them except my Technasia stuff...

No class at all... You have to be a bit more mature I
think to understand good music... It comes natural to
me but a lot of children are born subnormal in North
Yorkshire so they have no hope of enjoying it or
understanding it... They're idea of music is single
finger key presses and a repetitive bassdrum... This
means you Pragnosis...

2000-10-18 Thread d . pinter
This thread has been full of some interesting opinions, it actually reminds me
of arguments that were made a few years ago when 'electronica' was supposed to
blow up and be the next big thing. Remember all the buzz over 'AMP' I think
people within the techno community saw it as signs of an invasion. That
overnight artists who were dedicated to making unique and innovative music
whould suddenly become hypnotized into selling out because of exposure to a
mass audience. Jaguar is a great track with lots of emotion, we can all agree
on that. I personally think Rolando deserves the exposure, MTV air-play
included. Sure some people will love it and some people will not get it (music
is after all an artform) the point is those who do like it will hopefully have
had their minds opened and want to develop an appreciation for this music.
