RE: (313) de-warping tips?
The easy fix would be to just kill your mail lady. I've contemplated this several times after dealing with the same situation. After that, purchase a larger mailbox, because evidently one of the pre-requisites for mail delivery is having 3 brain cells. -Original Message- From: Synthetic Tom [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, June 11, 2003 5:26 PM To: 313@hyperreal.org Subject: (313) de-warping tips? so the mail lady bent my newly-ordered morgan geist record into a horseshoe shape in order to fit it in the mailbox. god bless her. needless to say it's not playing so well. anyone have any good methods for flattening their vinyl??? my apologies if this topic's been covered. thanks. tom
RE: (313) de-warping tips?
Thank god the mail lady didn't do that to my Peacefrog Private Pressing that I just found out showed up at the record store for me today! I would have killed the lady. When all the finances and shipping and bank transfers added up, that thing cost me somewhere around $25. Oh well...Hopefully it will be a good tune and worth the wait. I am really digging the Silence in the Secret Garden track. If you have the patience and a heavy book try putting it in the direct sunlight and putting a really heavy book on top of it to flatten it out. I have gotten that one to work with minorly warped reocrds...as for severely warped ones, well I hope you got shipping insurance. I recommend a web-order to wherever you ordered that record from, a credit card, and six-to-eight weeks. I know: not the answer you wanted to hear-- but it *is* the option that produces best results. If you make it a point to have them stamp the order 'Do Not Bend' and insure the item, then next time the USPS will have to foot the bill for a replacement. Other methods of flattening out vinyl usually only result in headache and anger. RE: (313) de-warping tips?
I use a 60's electric bar heater with a sort of 'steel-lite' finish and nice big flat top. ( 2 bar heater). The top gets quite hot, but not too hot to sit on. I put the record on the top of the heater, turn it on , watch very carefully, at a certain point it slumps flat then turn the heater off. Used this after a few nasty oven experiments. -Original Message- From: Synthetic Tom [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, 12 June 2003 9:26 a.m. To: 313@hyperreal.org Subject: (313) de-warping tips? so the mail lady bent my newly-ordered morgan geist record into a horseshoe shape in order to fit it in the mailbox. god bless her. needless to say it's not playing so well. anyone have any good methods for flattening their vinyl??? my apologies if this topic's been covered. thanks. tom

That is horrible. :( A bend like that is likely unfixable, but this may be of some help: http://www.overloadmedia.co.uk/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=4712&highlight=thick+glass Tristan === Text/Mixes: http://www.phonopsia.co.uk Music: http://www.mp313.com Contact: [EMAIL PROTECTED] - Original Message - From: "Synthetic Tom" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <313@hyperreal.org> Sent: Wednesday, June 11, 2003 9:25 PM Subject: (313) de-warping tips? > so the mail lady bent my newly-ordered morgan geist record into a horseshoe > shape in order to fit it in the mailbox. god bless her. needless to say > it's not playing so well. anyone have any good methods for flattening their > vinyl??? my apologies if this topic's been covered. thanks. > > tom > > >
