RE: (313) Re: SPAM-LOW: Re: (313) talking heads + omar s mix

2005-03-13 Thread Adam Smith
I saw David Byrne perform with Gilberto Gil here in NYC late last year.
They put on quite a show! David Byrne dedicated a song to the republican
party and George Bush...we're on a road to nowhere, ha!

I am getting married in May and my fiancée and I have chosen Naïve
Melody (this must be the place) as the song for our first dance...such
an incredible song, really great lyrics as well. Highly recommended.

Also recommend sand in the vaseline a double CD of their popular
favorites. Great road trip music.

Cheers,

Adam

Also worth checking is Talking Heads concert film Stop Making
Sense - best concert film I've ever seen - Bernie Worrell plays
with them - they were tight as f***

that dvd is amazing. i just got it last month, its so great. aside
from the fact that they made great music, they put on quite a
show. and aside from bernie worrell, they had ednah holt of west
end records fame on backing vocals. thats one of the illest funk
bands ive seen play, i only wish i could have seen that live.

Fans should make sure to check 'True Stories' with David Byrne and John Goodman
for a subgenius-style send-up of the Texas sesquicentenial. It's hillarious,
particularly the music. J.R. Bob Dobbs even makes an appearance or two.

My favourite Talking Heads track has got to be 'Road to Nowhere', which sums up
their joyous nihilism pretty well I think. The video with that shopping cart
was sweet too.

Rob Taylor and Anya Stang say I dance like him. Dunno if that's a good thing. ;)

2005-03-11 Thread Kowalsky
Well, you may dig Once In A Lifetime, wich was kinda crossover hit in
the discofunk era.
Talking Heads was one of the greatest and more inspired bands that
emerged in the new wave/no wave of post punk era. And that was not
because Carl Craig likes it.

Hi list,

Just realized that Carl Craig should be a big Talking Heads fan (see
his

Moxie edit and the More songs... title which clearly is a ref to TH

If CC likes it, I assume TH might have some other nice songs... So, can
you recommend TH material in the more electronic side?

Also listenning to that Omar S mix
(http://www.allphon.com/brols/omarmix.ram) and wondering if there is a
tracklisting for that. I am particularly interested in the tracks
between

11 and 19 minutes...

Thanks for your help and have a nice weekend!

All the TH albums are worthwhile, if not necessarily electronic.

I'd agree with Alex that Eno/Byrne's My life in the Bush of Ghosts
has some very tasty tracks. AND if you like that release you owe it to
yourself to find a copy of Byrne's The Catherine Wheel. It was the
score that Byrne composed for a Twyla Tharp dance piece. Dead funky.

I'd also recommend the Stop Making Sense DVD as a great
introduction to Talking Heads - I saw that for the first

double agreed! the big suit! woo!

here's the book I read:

it's good - but very biased towards david byrne, but none the less a good
read.
