RE: [313] Techno for funerals

2001-10-31 Thread Ploegmakers, Joost
Hadn't checked the 303 list for quite some time, but I had to answer to this
one..

I made this list years ago and it hasn't changed since.
In no particular order:

Dave Angel - Airborne (Carl Craig's drums suck mix)
Humanoid - Stakker Humanoid
Rolling Stones - Sympathy for the Devil (no techno, but it's gonna be played
at my funeral)

For my funeral, I think that I would like a few things played

on the techno tip (well, i guess that these are arguably not techno):

mysteries of science - the wake (maybe for my wake, that is)

and various songs off of

aphex twin - selected ambient works vol 2

on the not-so techno/not so somber tip:

a live rendition of when the saints come marching in (and other dixiland
greats)

the world funeral wouldn't be used. It's like the
term wedding...it leads to heartburn and uncomfortable
shoes. It would be done Jim Henson style: complete
celebration of life.

The house tune It's a lovely day, and the sun is
shining... would be played, along with Al Green, some
Aretha and of course Forever in Blue Jeans by my
Neil. I want the full on gospel choir too and
traditional Jewish celebration tunes. Long Island Iced
Ts and Cosmos given at the door.

There would be a(n optional) bowling game
aftwards...with prizes.

sorry..i got carried away.

2001-10-20 Thread paul . matheson

Many years ago I went to the funeral of a friend who died at the age of 18.
They played 'Song to the Siren' by This Mortal Coil in the church. It was
astonishing, just extraordinary. A few weeks ago, I went to a wedding in
Ireland and it accompanied the bride into the chapel. And it worked.

When my mum died I asked them to play 'Fly me to the Moon' by Sinatra. Smiles
with tears all round, which is what funerals have to be about.

Me, I'd have 'Search Your Feelings' (like a ton of others on the list)

I'd probably have one of my own ones, not out of egotism but because it's
probably a bit more appropriate, if you've made any music, to have one of
your own compositions - unless you're a gabba artist, I suppose!

So I'd probably choose my track Effervescence, which is at:

http://www.brelson.com/music/Track_Ghost--Effervescence.mp3 in case anyone's
got the time and bandwidth to spare...

Does anyone else have tracks of their own that they'd imagine having played
at their funerals?

UR - journey of the dragons
 UR - Final Frontier
 Autechre - Silverside

Afterwards a nice booming techno fest in a dark cellar with only smoke and
 strobes...

Actually, some of the BoC tacks from Hi-Scores are quite

2001-10-19 Thread Bob McGrae
I wouldn't pick anything just cause it suited a funeral, my reasons would
be close to me.

I'd go for either;

Claude Young - Multiplicity of Zeros an OnesJust cause I like it
Drexciya - Running Out of Space Cause I just have
Neil Landstrumm - Boost Control In a last effort to make them listen to
something different.

Morbid topic... but, nonetheless, I heard that E2-E4 by Manuel Gottsching
was played at Larry Levan's funeral. I thought that was pretty cool.
