immaculately produced French House with the
funk ripping out of it- album is called Pan Soul.

I remember when this came out, 1995-96 or so... really different
sounding too, really stood apart from all the generic formula house
flooding the market at the time, the right mix of everything. Pan Soul
is filling to listen to, like a good meal! Ha ha..

BTW on Pepe Bradock, how hard is that older Kif stuff to track down?
What do people consider the must-haves of the Kif material?

I'll admit more than a few of the Pepe Bradock remixes I've heard have
just been so-so, but his original productions I have had more success
with. Of course that's completely subjective and has a bit to do with
the source tracks getting remixed too... so, FWIW.

Thanks,
Matt MacQueen

Yeah. Third this recommendation. It really has a unique flavor. Harps,
scratching, many things you didn' texpect to hear in deep house. But then we
mustn't forget these are some of the same folks who brought us La Funk Mob
and The Mighty Bop (BTW - anyone else feeling those recent Herbert remixes
of the Mighty Bop? - nice).

BTW on Pepe Bradock, how hard is that older Kif stuff to track down?

Un Pepe En Or Vol. 2, 12 (Kif) is good for one track that is not much more
than a disco loop, but an excelleent loop at that. Not realy the most
captivating of his records though. Of his earlier stuff I liked his releases
as Trankilou - Escalope De Dingue EP on Kif and the St Glin-Glin EP on BPM
Records (although I find something a bit infuriating about this one).

I'll admit more than a few of the Pepe Bradock remixes I've heard have

Yeah, my take is completely the opposite. I think he's more skilled with
other people's stuff, and his own greatest successes have been the ones that
rely most heavilly on full-blown loops rather than snips. But, to each his
own, as they say. :)

Can't go wrong with the other Parisians. Check DJ Gregory, Gilb'r, Soha,
I:Cube (anyone catching the Versatile thread???), Julien Jabre, Chateau
Flight, Kemit Sources (the new entry), etc. Paris is rocking it this
millenium. Not doing precisely the same things as Braddock, but they have
their own similarly-compelling sound. You would probably love DJ Gregory's
'Attend 1' on Kitsune (which I heard a couple of times @ DEMF, and has
generally been a favorite of some Detroit DJs from what I can tell - in case
anyone is questioning the topicality of this), which I totally missed last
year somehow, and have been caning to death so far this Summer. T o o n
!!! Also, the Soha stuff on Basic and Africanism would surely hook you up.

Enjoy!
