Re: [313] CKDK club plans...

2001-05-14 Thread george . jones
I remember Kenny telling me something about this a couple of years ago. I
just thought they dropped it and moved on to something else.

The real question is: What building/area downtown(?) would be suitable for
something like this?

This club has been in the works for a while; I don't think they want it to
be a superclub in the tradition of the UK ones but rather a hi-tech version
of the Music Institute - with a great sound system. Also they were going to
have part of it as a museum, a way of documenting the culture. Also unlike
say Ministry Of Sound or Home in the UK it wouldn't be for just anyone to
come in, they would make it somewhere you wanted to go because you love the
music.
The idea was to pull people into the city to hear the music. It was to give
the city a boost.

I remember Derrick told me about it years ago and I am really happy to hear
renewed talks of it.

Have faith in this project - the guys behind it all have the very best
intentions, it's a dream for them, less so a 'venture'.

I'm thinking they'll open a casinoa technosino :)

Guvernment in Toronto AIMS to be like that, but it's still pretty much
cheese all around :(

It will be more than just a club, it will be a super
entertainment complex

I don't know why, but that just sounds funny. I'm
picturing Dunk the DJ right now :)
Sounds like a cool idea though. Isn't the
Guvernment in Toronto like that, multiple rooms with
different DJ's/genres? I've never been there myself,
but friends have told me it's pretty nice.

Re: [313] CKDK club plans...

2001-05-11 Thread tim maughan
h...it sounds a lot like the corporate clubs we have here in the uk
(ministry of sound, cream etc) and i gotta say - they really suck. something
is lost when you make the move to large, expensive purpose built venues - if
only that more often than not creative decisions have to be curtailed in
order to bring in more punters to cover vast overheads...
