i was also a little lukewarm about Afrika Bambataa at the Michigan League in
AA. no disrespect or anything, but i expected a more diverse set. he spun
hiphop for about half an hour, and that's when i decided to leave (on the
flyer it said electro).

it was fun though, i got to see my friend DJ Ro spin and he fu*#ing slammed
even though the crowd wasn't digging Chicago house tracks he played.

for those of you that enjoyed his set, you can see DJ Ro again next week at
the Pierpont Commons. should be great.

Re: [313] do you remember?

2001-03-25 Thread dj revolver
i'll have to agree with kyle - i expected some harder , darker techno but to
hear rich play some funky tech house and even disco house (hatiras' space
invader) was pretty inspiring to experience as a dj. rich's set had
beautiful flow all night and he is the master of creating break downs and
builds ups with the use of mixer eqs and effects. flawless mixing skills
were demonstrated and the crowd ate up every track he threw down. i'll have
to say that was probably the best show platinum has had to date and the best
thing to happen to windsor (musically) for a long time not to mention it was
nice not having to drive more than 5 minutes to get to the venue.

the vibe:
as i eagerly approached platinum i first noticed a large m-nus symbol
hanging from platinum's outdoor rafters blowing in the wind. when i walked
in to the ever so familiar platinum i noticed right away that it had been
transformed into a plus 8 event with the parachutes hanging low on the
upstairs floor. and it was great to see john acquaviva up high in the newly
constructed, all silver, metal dj booth smiling, spinning and drinking.
while i only stayed upstairs long enough to order a couple drinks, it was
long to here john throw down some cool old school disco tracks. as my wife
and i walked down the stairs to the lower level we noticed that the couches
were replaced with bass bins and the room had never sounded so great. it
was extremely dark, warm, and smokey and from the back of the already jam
packed dance floor you could see rich's bald sillouette and black glasses
glowing above the red, smokey dj booth. as we found our way to the vip
lounge rich was spinning some really nice minimal, almost dubby techno.

the vip lounge:
my beer buzz was strong and to hear phat beats made me feel even better.
the vibe was cool back there as rich would laugh with some of his friends
during record changes. m-nus' technical wizard steve had the adat machine
recording rich's entire set (i'd love to get a hold of those tapes). the vip
room was dark and had a platform in the middle to sit on and there were some
candles lit. there was a small room with access to the bar to the right and
some couches elevated on a platform to the left hand side. as i hung out
with some old friends and got caught up on past events i saw some familiar
faces such as theorem, christian smith, magda and more. troy robinson
(platinum's owner) looked very satisfied every time i saw him as well.

we decided to leave about 0430 and were already satisifed with everything
we've seen and heard as rich was starting to play some old acid tracks.

great job m-nus/plus 8 crew. another event well planned out and windsor
thanks you for coming home.
