Stewart Walker : Granular Synthesis

2001-01-07 Thread DustinH
One of my favorite records on the ambient side of things is Stewart Walker's
Granular Synthesis 12...where should I go looking to find things similar in
nature to this? I havent ever heard anything like it since i picked that
record up.

Thanks,
Dustin

You may want to try listening to the nationally syndicated radio show Music
from the Hearts of Space on NPR. Lots of completely beatless space music
there. Some of it is complete crap, but some is good. Granular Synthesis is
it's own animal though. You won't find a whole lot of music like that. You
may want to check some of these for exceedingly chill moody ambient music.
These are all older though.

Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works, volume II (Sire)
Double Muffled Dolphin - The Lion's Are Growing (April Records)
MLO - 10 (Rising High Records)
Irresistible Force - Global Chillage (Rising High records)
Another Fine Day - Life Before Land (Beyond Records)
Global Communications - 76:14 (Dedicated)

All,

This is from the horses mouth. Hope he doesn't mind me reprinting it here.
Don't see why he would, given he used to be on the list.

Granular Synthesis/Bay Between the Bridges is an ambient EP coming
out on Mille Plateaux in April. These two tracks are really early works,
circa 1994, that I created before I had a sequencer, or even a DAT. So
they went from Cassette to DAT to Vinyl.

Also: Reformation of Negative Space EP (Tresor) Out in Early July. Anyone
heard this yet?
