Jet Set and song id

2001-04-02 Thread Robin Crampton
What do people think of the Jet Set EP by Jeff Mills? I finally got around
to picking it up on Saturday and I'm not very impressed. Is it me or is he
just churning 'em out these days?

And now on to the song id. Preacher-style acapella vocals (in the same vein
as those on Mr Fingers, Can You Feel It?) ending with and they (we?)
still teach kids (children?) to play house. Or something.

Thanks in advance. Back to lurking...

Sounds like Green Velvets Preacher man, I believe it was on the first Green
Velvet release that came out on Relief I'm speaking of the correct tune.
Really stomping track with an aggressive FM synth sounding dancing around
throughout.

Confirmed. Preacher Man is used quite effectively on
that mix.

yeah, i heard it. didn't really do anything for me, especially after the
string of amazing releases he's put out recently (metropolis, every dog).
it's good though, the one track one it's own side particularly stood out.

maybe i just missed it, but i don't recall reading any mention of mills'
latest edition to the purpose maker series. i like it. it's more
tech-housey than some of his other stuff, not quite as banging, and a
little bit slower. some nice bass lines, as is typcial with many of his
tracks. anyone else have any input?

i LOVE it. the first track, a1-Power, is like a mix between tribal house
and Lil' Louis type house if you take a close listen to it. you can mix
with either style in mind. it mixes well with a lot of the more
tribal-sounding PM releases too.
