FTP_receive with long filenames

2017-07-28 Thread Pat Bensky via 4D_Tech
Using v13.5 ...

I'm trying to download some files from a client's FTP site. The files have
quite long names - e.g.:
53ee6f6f-3c81-41ae-b001-a5a000baebbc_350x271.jpg

So here's some test code:

fr_tImageToGet:=fr_WebDirectory+"53ee6f6f-3c81-41ae-b001-a5a000baebbc_350x271.jpg"
// returns "/imagecache/53ee6f6f-3c81-41ae-b001-a5a000baebbc_350x271.jpg"
fr_tImageSavePath:=fr_tImagesToDirectory+"53ee6f6f-3c81-41ae-b001-a5a000baebbc_350x271.jpg"
// returns "Macintosh
HD:Users:patbensky:Desktop:53ee6f6f-3c81-41ae-b001-a5a000baebbc_350x271.jpg"
fr_err:=FTP_ChangeDir (vFTP_ID;"/")
fr_err:=FTP_Receive (vFTP_ID;fr_tImageToGet;fr_tImageSavePath;1)

Doesn't download the file and returns an error -1

If I shorten the name of the file - e.g.:
Macintosh HD:Users:patbensky:Desktop:3cac519f-0bff.jpg

It downloads the file, no problem.

I can work around it by downloading with a temporary (short) name and then
renaming it, but why? Are filenames referenced in FTP_Receive limited to 32
characters?

Thanks!

Pat

I would NOT have noticed, as the login credentials I use on the forum
have nothing to do with the 4D store/partner credentials I use, and as
far as I know there is no linkage between the two.

I am looking at the forum site now. There is no (apparent) information
regarding betas, nightly builds etc.
so... it appears I am right, that there is no tie (currently) between
my forum account and my partner/4d store accounts.
AS IT SHOULD BE

especially since the I don't really care about the login at the forum.
if someone were to 'hack' it and take it over... oh well.
I would create a new account, and ask 4D to kill the old one.

This is obviously NOT the same situation if the forum login credentials
are tied to $$$

one more thing I just noticed.

I the forum has a persistent login.
By this I mean, yesterday, I loved into the forums.
Closed the browser window (not the browser)
today I opened a new browser window (in reference to my previous
comment)
I was still logged in.

THAT is also an issue with the forum.
again, especially if there are $$$ tied to the login.

C_TEXT($command;$input;$output;$args;$err)
$command:="zip /users/aaron/documents/log.zip /users/aaron/documents/log.txt"
LAUNCH EXTERNAL PROCESS($command;$input;$output;$err)

on windows you could install 7zip, and use that

RE: FTP_receive with long filenames

Hi Pat,

> I can work around it by downloading with a temporary (short) name and then

> characters?

I thought the limit was 63 characters on Mac 32 bit up until and including
v16.x:
http://livedoc.4d.com/4D-Internet-Commandsv16/help/Title/en/page397.html
{
The FTP commands of 4D Internet Commands work with files whose names have a
limited length. The following table provides the maximum number of characters
based on the OS:
WindowsOS X
32 bits25563
64 bits2551024
}

However, starting with v16R2 this has been increased to 1024 on both platforms:
http://livedoc.4d.com/4D-Internet-Commandsv16-R2/help/Title/en/page397.html
{
The FTP commands of 4D Internet Commands work with files whose names have a
limited length. In 4D Internet Commands v16 R2 and higher, the maximum number
of characters is 1024 whatever the OS.
}

Maybe the limit includes the path and not just the filename?

This is 85 chars: Macintosh
HD:Users:patbensky:Desktop:53ee6f6f-3c81-41ae-b001-a5a000baebbc_350x271.jpg
This is 54 chars: Macintosh HD:Users:patbensky:Desktop:3cac519f-0bff.jpg
This is 48 chars: 53ee6f6f-3c81-41ae-b001-a5a000baebbc_350x271.jpg
This is 17 chars: 3cac519f-0bff.jpg

Can you try v16R2 to see if the increased limit of 1024 helps?

-Tim

Tony:

It's a variable that respects 4D scoping rules so that should not happen.

That's one of the features of C_Object vs ObjectTools — also, you can see
what's in the Object vs having to use a separate editor window.

Re: Can 4D Objects create memory leaks?

2017-07-28 Thread Chip Scheide via 4D_Tech
Tony,
I do not use c_object - however...
since they are passed by reference, i would think that it would be
possible to create object(s) in long lasting process (run time), which
unless explicitly disposed of (not sure how you do that - clear
contents?)
would hang around until the client (or server if they created on the
server) quits.

I would think - that loops which can create objects would be the place
to look for/find object memory leaks.
something like this: Deamon process (stored procedure), runs on Server
start

Repeat
  create object
  do something
  sleep
until (Quit)

otherwise - i would assume the 4D does cleanup when the process which
spawned the object exits, the object(s) are cleared.
Of course you could always make sure of this (I do with arrays, and
sets) by explicitly clearing the object.

Hi Tim,
I did a test using v16r4 beta and it worked OK with the long filename. So
that's good :)
I did notice however that although I passed the 1 parameter in FTP_Receive

fr_err:=*FTP_Receive* (vFTP_ID;fr_tImageToGet;fr_tImageSavePath;1)

... it did NOT display a progress message, even when I used a bogus
filename to make it wait 30 seconds before timing out. Bug?

RE: FTP_receive with long filenames

2017-07-28 Thread Timothy Penner via 4D_Tech
Hi Pat,

I assume you are using 64 bit. If so, then no, it's not a bug:
http://livedoc.4d.com/4Dv15/help/Title/en/page3838.html
{
Unsupported interface features

With respect to OS X user interface specificities, the following features are
not supported in the 64-bit version of 4D Internet Commands for OS X.

Progress bar
The 4D IC 64-bit version for OS X does not display a progress bar when
executing time-consuming operations. The FTP_Progress FTP_Progress command is
deprecated in the 64-bit version of OS X.
When called in this environment, the command returns error -2201 (unimplemented
feature).

File selector dialog
File selector dialog boxes cannot be displayed by the 4D IC 64-bit version
plug-in for OS X. With this version, localPath or hostPath parameters are
mandatory and must contain valid file paths; otherwise an error -2201
(unimplemented feature) is returned. This syntax concerns all commands that
handle file names, including FTP, IMAP, MSG, POP, SMTP, and IT commands.
If you want the user to select files from their computer, we recommend that you
call 4D's built-in commands, such as Select document.
}

Re: 4D Blog posts about New Features in v16R4

2017-07-28 Thread David Adams via 4D_Tech
Tim,

Thanks a *lot* for posting a message about the latest Blog posts. I really
like the Blog but forget to visit it regularly. For anyone on this list
that hasn't checked out the 4D Blog yet (or lately), check it out. It's
really nice technical/marketing material. Good quick introductions to
features and techniques, often with sample code and even databases to go
with.

Good stuff.
