Hi all - this is just an FYI…
Using 4D v16.3 on Win, we have confirmed that a particular stored procedure
(background tasks) running on “Client” will freeze whereas if it is run on the
server it does not.
I’ve been away for a short while but hope to work with 4D soon to try to narrow
down the cause.
Cheers, Keith

Re: 4d16 r6 documentation

2018-03-31 Thread John Baughman via 4D_Tech
Oooops. I thought you were someone else.

It was late, I was tired, and I had just finished working the 61st Hawaii State
Science & Engineering Fair run and organized each year by the Hawaii Academy of
Science (HAS). 4D is at the center of the fair’s year round management. During
the fair over the past few years I have worked closely with a volunteer named
Jeremy who handles the computer hardware and networking at the convention
center. Earlier in the day yesterday he had shown an interest in learning 4D.
So late last night when I saw your message I jumped to the conclusion that you
were him. :-)

Sorry for the confusion.

Delay process bug

2018-03-31 Thread Jeffrey Kain via 4D_Tech
So, the Delay Process bug hit two servers within an hour of each other this
morning, after months of not having the issue. It was weird that both of them
hit the bug this morning within a short period of time of each other.

This was on 16.3 HF2, so the latest and greatest...

It does, but not in downloadable form. The link at the top right is to the 16.3

Re: 4d16 r6 documentation

2018-03-31 Thread Jeremy Roussak via 4D_Tech
John,

I’m aware of the release structure. As the subject line of my email shows, what
I’m looking for is the HTML documentation for v16 r6. As you know, there are
new features and commands in r6 which aren’t present in 16.3 and hence are not
covered by the 16.3 documentation.

I have the HTML documentation for R4, which I downloaded from somewhere a few
months ago. I’d like to download the equivalent, updated documentation for R6.

So, does anyone know if it’s available and if so, where?

Re: 4d16 r6 documentation

2018-03-31 Thread John Baughman via 4D_Tech
The link in your email shows all the versions currently supported by 4D. What
were you looking for? v16.3 is the latest version you are going to find for
download (see below). If you want to learn as a developer, I recommend you
read any version of the Design Reference Manual (LRM) and Design Reference
Manual (DRM). So v16.3 would be a perfectly good choice. Later you can read the
what’s new document for v17 when it comes out. I learned 4D by reading the LRM.
Read enough of the DRM and their getting started stuff to create a practice
database and practice what you read as you go through the LRM. There are
videos available on YouTube.

Below is an explanation of their versioning structure.

John

16 is the latest shipping version of 4D and .3 is the latest version of v16.
Dot releases contain only bug fixes.

R releases are the pre-releases of the next shipping version (v17). v16R6 is
the latest R version which can be used by developers as well as users under
maintenance contract, which HAS is. Each R version goes through a beta version
available to developers in their beta program, which I am.

v17 is expected to be released within the next few months at which time v14
will be dropped as a supported version. I plan to upgrade HAS to R6 when I get
back from DC. I usually wait 2 to 3 months before deploying any newly released
version to my clients. Sooner if there is something in the release that is
compelling or fixes a bug that is affecting the client.
