Dammit! I read that, but had totally forgotten about it…

In the documentation, the error is even mentioned: ## ERROR # 48!

Strangely, when you search the on line documentation for ## ERROR # 48, it
doesn’t find it …

Thanks Keisuke, you saved my day (again ;-))

4D Write Pro range / elements

2018-07-17 Thread Two Way Communications via 4D_Tech
I have a 4WR PRO area on a form. It is associated with the field
[_10_Report_templates]Template_WRPRO.

I added 2 tables in it.

I wrote a table editor, so the attributes of a table can be changed after it
has been created.
For that to work, I need to get the table object in order to change it.

When I put the cursor inside one of the tables, I can get the selection and
then the table object that the cursor is in.

$range:=WP Get selection([_10_Report_templates]Template_WRPRO)
cTBLelements:=WP Get elements($range;wk type table)

cTBLelements[0] will have the table object.

This used to work until now… (4D v17, MacOS High Sierra)
Now, it either returns an empty object or always the first table, no matter
where the cursor is.

Did anybody have the same experience?

Overal, I have the impression that the start/end of a range is not always
correct…

Re: v17 ready for prime time?

2018-07-17 Thread Kirk Brooks via 4D_Tech
Hey Steve,
I am really impressed with v17 and recommend it for all your new projects.

I also strongly recommend reading the blog. It's not just pretty. The posts
about the new v17 features are really worthwhile. The way you can associate
a collection with a listbox now is remarkably powerful once you get it. And
the options and implications for using ORDA are really profound. But
really, really different from the way we've been doing things. So if you
start designing a new project without some understanding of what you can
accomplish with ORDA it's a bit like getting that new Porsche and only
using the first two gears. Still goes like hell but you're missing out on a
lot.

I re-watched the videos of Thomas Maul and Laurant from the Summit
yesterday. I got so much more from it now that I've been using v17. I
really recommend taking a look at them. The fact that you _can_ work with
v17 exactly the way you have worked with pretty much every version since
v11 doesn't mean you should. Especially on a new project.

I've been using Alertra for several years now. It monitors web servers
which works for me because the only 4D installs I need to worry about have
webservers plus a few others I watch. You can adjust the ping rate from a
few seconds to - well I don't actually recall how long you can wait - and
what you are charged varies accordingly. You can choose to be emailed or
texted or both.

This is exactly one of the primary problems with RD. We have been using Solar

However, as it always seems to be with Corp IT, they don't like anything except

We have a number of 4D Servers which we run under a dedicated Windows Account.
We use the same Windows Account to run all Production Servers on all machines.
If someone needs to monitor the server they can do that via RDC using that
Windows Account. That avoids any session confusion. However, it doesn't allow
multiple users to monitor the same session and, since we run 4D Server from the
desktop, rather than as a Windows Service, it also exposes the risk of the user
accidentally 'logging off' instead of 'disconnecting' which causes 4D Server to
quit. For these reasons we use RealVNC to monitor all servers, which is simply
a screen sharing app.

4D Write PRO expressions

2018-07-17 Thread Two Way Communications via 4D_Tech
I inserted an expression in a 4D Write PRO area, and the expression is actually
a method returning a text in $0:

4WRPRO_INSERT(“test”)

However, when showing the values in stead of the references in the 4D Write PRO
area, the value always shows ‘## ERROR # 48’

When I execute the method inside another method:

$result:=4WRPRO_INSERT(“test”)

the result is shown correctly, also when using ‘Execute formula’, so the method
works.

I’ ve tried to debug the method, but the debugger doesn’t show when using it
inside the 4D Write PRO area, like the method is not even called…

Any ideas why it is not working in 4D Write PRO?

RE: Server Monitoring...

2018-07-17 Thread Epperlein, Lutz (agendo) via 4D_Tech
NAGIOS works very well, all our servers are monitored by NAGIOS. And that by
simply monitoring the http(s) ports.

Server Monitoring...

2018-07-17 Thread Robert ListMail via 4D_Tech
I just realized that a headless local server (that provides some low-demand
network resources) has been unresponsive for about 7 days. Do you monitor your
local (and not local) servers with special software? I’m mainly wanting to know
if the are up or are responding to a ping or something. Not looking for remote
access.

Yes I know, I know we are all programmers ... :)

Thanks,

Robert

Re: v17 ready for prime time?

2018-07-17 Thread Robert ListMail via 4D_Tech
Hi Steve, I’m about to use v17 on a new project. I’m confident that I can work
through any teething issues with the support of 4D—they have always come
through for me.

2018-07-17 Thread Tilman Haerdle via 4D_Tech
We use v17 on a new project and didn't run into any issues at all. On the
contrary, it is super stable and very reliable. Especially the ORDA stuff works
amazingly well.
