I agree, it does make sense. I looked all over in the SVG documentation in the
Colors and Gradients section and couldn’t find anything about using “none”. Who
might I ask about adding that to the documentation as I think it would be
helpful for others in the future?

the source code of SVG component is available for partners.

some time ago, we received a similar question from a customer,
evidently it is intentional that opacity=0 is ignored (it is explicitly coded
that way).
the explanation from the developer was that opacity=0 makes no sense and "none"
should be used instead.

RE: v13 (+?) - Find in design

2018-07-20 Thread Timothy Penner via 4D_Tech
Hi Chip,

There have been some improvements to the Find in Design dialog in newer version
of 4D:
https://blog.4d.com/improvement-of-find-in-design-dialog/
https://blog.4d.com/export-results-of-find-in-design-dialog/

If you have any specific new features in mind that you would like to see
implemented in future versions of 4D, then I invite you to post it as a topic
to the Feature Request forums:
http://forums.4d.com/Forum/EN/1075213/0/0

As a reminder, Feature requests are handled on the 4D Forums -

Having the feature requests handled through the forums is quite valuable to the
community because of the following:

1. 4D Engineering participates on the 4D Forums, so you have the opportunity to
discuss the feature request in a more immediate fashion.

2. Other users can participate in the feature request discussion and help
refine the feature request so that it is appealing to more users. Also, the
more users who participate in the discussion, the more visibility that
particular feature request will have.

Kind Regards,

Tim PENNER

Re: 4D Server as a Service

2018-07-20 Thread James Wright via 4D_Tech
There was a recent windows updated that caused problems with mssql servers
and web servers. Although I'm not sure it's applicable to windows server
2012.

Might be worth reading these:

https://borncity.com/win/2018/07/17/iis-web-server-strikes-after-update-kb4338818/
https://blog.techygeekshome.info/2018/07/broken-microsoft-update-kb4338818/
https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/4345459/stop-error-0xd1-after-a-race-condition-occurs-in-windows-7-service-pac

Updates were from last week.

Problems stopping services and the restarting them.

There was a patch on Thursday, but we had to install it manually.

James.

Re: 4D Server as a Service

2018-07-20 Thread David Conley via 4D_Tech
Robert,

We have experienced this on several windows computers as well. In our case
they were windows 10 machines so it isn’t isolated to the server OS. Nothing
shows up in the event log that would pinpoint the problem. We could manually
start the database as a service and it starts just fine. It just seemed like
the service was ignored by windows on startup. We even changed to automatic
delayed start and that didn’t matter. We haven’t gotten to the bottom of this
as of yet. Seems like it was introduced by some windows patch that was run in.
 We are running 4D v16.3.

I’m looking at this thread with interest to see if someone has solved the
problem so we can too.

RE: 4D Server as a Service

2018-07-20 Thread Epperlein, Lutz (agendo) via 4D_Tech
I can only guess ...
We experienced something similar in the past, but always it reveals to be a
problem caused by us. An example: Usually our server apps are updated
automatically during the night, so the service hat to be restarted by the
update script. In nearly all cases it works very well, but it happened that
there were an error in the startup code of the new version and we got a
problem. Not nice, but ...

If we are faced with such problems, I restart the server app as a normal
application not as a service, only to look if there are some error messages
thrown by the 4D server. Unfortunately all these messages are not logged into
a file by 4D, so I have to go the way via application start.

Theoretically it could be a problem with the interactive services if you use
them. These services are more and more restricted by Microsoft. We don't use
them.

Finding the real cause of the problem is rather difficult or even not
possible. If you restarted the service and all was going well there isn't any
chance to get the cause. You can try to have a look at the Windows Eventlog
but the messages by 4D are mostly not helpful.

v13 (+?) - Find in design

2018-07-20 Thread Chip Scheide via 4D_Tech
does anyone else want more capabilities with Find in Design?

I would like the ability to do multiple levels of query

I would like to be able to do a query which allowed me to exclude
something
text contains method name (
except
text contains method name (

and many other similar queries.
Does newer versions of 4D (version greater then 13) include such
enhancements?
if not - would anyone be willing to support a feature request?

4D Server as a Service

2018-07-20 Thread Robert ListMail via 4D_Tech
This morning, I received a call about a Windows server 2012 where 4D Server
v15.6 was not running. Since it runs as a service it seems to normally survive
reboots of the server when their IT guys are applying security patches to
Windows Server and whatnot. I’ve managed the symptom by restarting the service
but I’d like to understand what happened. Apparently 187 hotfix patches were
applied to Windows at 2:50 AM, any ideas why 4D Server running as a server did
not restart?

Thanks,

Re: Anybody know what's going on at Heubach Media?

2018-07-20 Thread UKVetDerm via 4D_Tech
Pat
I have sent a couple of emails which are unanswered too over the last week, so
don't take it personally. They have been so good in the past looking after me
that I can only imagine that everyone is away due to some unexpected crisis. I
hope you get sorted soon.

Anybody have any inside info? What's going on over there?

Anybody know of an alternative to HMBarcode?

Re: SVG Shape With No Background

2018-07-20 Thread Cannon Smith via 4D_Tech
I guess I just needed to hit the Send button to figure it out. It turns out
that I can pass “none” as a color. I don’t see it in the documentation
anywhere, but the SVG component must just pass it through to the SVG layer. So:

$tRef:=SVG_New_circle ($tSVG;200;200;100;"red”;"none";10)

gives me a circle with no background.

So, never mind! :-)

SVG Shape With No Background

2018-07-20 Thread Cannon Smith via 4D_Tech
Hi All,

What is the best way to draw a shape (circle, rectangle, etc.) without a
background using the SVG component? I tried using a “transparent” color:

$tRef:=SVG_New_circle ($tSVG;200;200;100;"red";"white:0";10)
//“white:0” = transparent

But it seems that if you pass a color like “white:0” where the transparency
part after the colon is 0, it is ignored and the fill-opacity attribute is not
set.

I can call SVG_SET_OPACITY after creating the shape and it will set it
properly, but I wasn’t expecting to have to call another command to remove the
background of an object. Is this the normal way of doing it? Is there a special
color I can use that denotes transparent? Is “white:0” not working considered a
bug?

Or is trying to set the transparency the wrong way to do it? I guess at the end
of the day what I’m really after is for the XML to end up with this attribute:

fill=“none”

What is the best way of doing this?

Thanks.

Pat,

Wow, I can safely state I've never experienced this with them. As far as I
know, there may only be 2 or 3 people in the company, so it's possible
Christian is on holiday.

Best,

Steve

4D v16 Server and Windows Server 2016

2018-07-20 Thread Uist Macdonald via 4D_Tech
I am upgrading a database to V16 and this is going to be run on Windows
Server 2016 as a service. This has worked reasonably well with earlier
windows servers. I have looked at the various tech notes on the subject
showing how to re-enable the interactive services detection service, but
this apparently does not work with Remote Desktop Connection ( no
mouse, keyboard events passed). This will be a VM and RDC is the only
thing on offer to talk to it.

If you have Interact with the desktop turned off then you have no clue
if and when 4D Server barfs with an error.

What do you wise folk do?

Regards

Uist Macdonald

Personally I prefer "going to" the forum as I don't want my Inbox flooded, plus
