Re: signature capture in 4D

2019-06-19 Thread Jim Crate via 4D_Tech
These were from Scriptel, I don’t remember the model but they did signature
capture and magnetic strip swiping, and were powered from the USB port. At that
time the Adobe Reader plugin required a pretty old version of Adobe Reader, but
maybe that’s changed. The Reader plugin allowed signature capture directly to a
PDF with cryptographic hashing for signature verification (I.e. to verify the
document has not been changed since it was signed). The macOS app was actually
a mac wrapper for a java app, so that gave them cross-platform functionality.

Yes Tom, the bug fixes for WP and I‘ve posted a lot of bugs are only in
v17r5 64 cause v17r4 is out of service now.

If you found some bugs test your code with v17r5

I‘m a write poweruser and ready with the switch to WP and v17r5

You should look at the v17 docs for the window types that will work going
forward. A lot of these old window types won’t work on 64-bit - it won’t crash
but some odd things happen like opening the new form in the existing window,
etc.

Stick to the v17 documented window types for best results going forward

Re: Window type -724 (more info)

2019-06-19 Thread Narinder Chandi via 4D_Tech
I may be mistaken but I have a feeling that these kind of "magic" window types
(for want of a better description) are a relic of the ancient history of the
Mac (we are talking as far back Mac OS OS 7 and 8) and there availability in 4D
is an un-documented feature and therefore wholly unsupported.

I think it goes without saying that the only window types you should consider
will work tomorrow as they do today are those as defined by the 4D window
constants.

How did you find this window type? I accidentally created a window in 4D
v15 that has a thin vertical window title with small type on the left side:
-1*(Palette window+Has zoom box). However, in v17 the title looks the same but
is on top.
Is there a list that is not in the Docs?

I have no idea! :)

this is a floating window I use for window management.
In my system it contains a listbox with all open windows/processes.

I have been using this for ages. On a Mac.
I was just working with windows version of a 4D app that uses this
window (same purpose) and it looks like crap because even though there
is *supposed* to be text in the title area there is nothing, and the
title area on windows is huuuge (said like our idiot in chief).

I was trying to figure out how I created the window type so I could try
to modify it for windows to look better.

(to Keith directly - I attached a screen capture of the window)

Quick Report toolbar widget

2019-06-19 Thread Jim Crate via 4D_Tech
The new 64-bit 4D Write includes toolbar widgets to replace the functionality
built-in to the old 32-bit 4D Write. I’m adding an interface to store quick
reports in the database for tracking and reuse, so I’m trying to work with the
%report subform. However, this does not include the control toolbar. This has
its uses, but I need to be able to allow the user to create or edit quick
reports as well. It seems like 4D must already have that toolbar as a widget
internally, Anyone know if that can be accessed with some undocumented magic?
This is on v17 64-bit.

I might be able to use WR ON COMMAND to get the report data from the built-in
quick report editor, but if I could just use the built-in editor’s toolbar as a
widget that would be much cleaner.

Any 4D Write Pro Features Available Only in 64Bit?

2019-06-19 Thread Tom Benedict via 4D_Tech
What 4DWrite Pro features, if any, are only available in 64bit? As part of an

Re: signature capture in 4D

2019-06-19 Thread Jim Crate via 4D_Tech
It’s pretty simple, the signature pad had an app that could be launched to
collect a signture.

The app supported a user-specific properties file, which I copied into the
correct place from the Resources folder. These properties also affected
launching the signature app from Scriptel’s Adobe Reader plugin for PDF
signatures. The app also supported being launched with command line options
that could override those properties, and one of the options forced it to quit
after collecting a signature or canceling. If you launch with the ‘open’
command, LEP will return immediately, but I executed the binary buried in the
application package (Contents/MacOS/binaryname) so LEP waited until the
application quit. So in 4D the process is:

— make sure the destination file does not exist
— launch the app with LEP
— check for the destination file; if it doesn’t exist user cancelled.

The best way to see if this will work for you is to test by launching on the
command line (Terminal on macOS). If your shell does not give you a promp until
the app quits, then this might work for you. The option that forced the
Scriptel app to quit after accepting/canceling is for plugin mode (--plugin).
The Topaz may work similarly, especially if they have plugins that allow you to
collect signatures in Excel, Word, or Adobe Reader.

17.1 Client and macOS 10.15 Catalina beta 2

2019-06-19 Thread James Brown via 4D_Tech
Just in case anyone gets eager, our compiled 4D Client app will not open on
macOS 10.15 Catalina:

Process: SapphireOne17.1 Client [5318]
Path: /Applications/SapphireOne17.1
Client.app/Contents/MacOS/SapphireOne17.1 Client
Identifier:com.4D.4DRuntimeVolumeLicense
Version: 17.1 build 17.236840 (17.0.1)
Code Type: X86-64 (Native)
Parent Process:??? [1]

10 libdyld.dylib 0x7fff636c03f9 start + 1

Obviously it is not certified for a beta OS, but just thought I’d try, as there
were no problems with High Sierra beta from memory.

(Testing on spare machine before you tell me how crazy I am).

James.
