Also thanks to Robert, John, Wil, Simon, and Phil for the various suggestions and clarifications. I intend to explore and get comfortable with the use of format files in the future, although Laura's suggestion is simpler and sufficient for my present needs. __ /\/\/\/\ <__> | | | | | David Barnert <__> | | | | | <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> <__> | | | | | Albany, N.Y. <__> \/\/\/\/ Ventilator Concertina Bellows Bellows (Vocation) (Avocation) To subscribe/unsubscribe, point your browser to: http://www.tullochgorm.com/lists.html

Dave Barnert wrote, regarding the use of a .fmt file in abc2ps (or abc4mac): >Please give me step-by-step including how to enter the -F in the >command line and what to do with the " -o -O =" that's already >there. I'm not asking you to design a new format file for me (I'll >get the hang of that by playing with it) but to show me how to >implement one. 1. Put the sample format file in a plain text file. Name it, say, trial.fmt The file name must end in .fmt 2. Put the file trial.fmt in the same folder as the .abc file you wish to format. 3. In abc4mac, choose Command Line Options from the Preference menu. To the default command line add: -F trial Thus, assuming you aren't doing anything else special, you would have: -F trial -o -O = Make sure that you use a capital F (not f) and that you omit the extension .fmt in the command line. (I'm using abc4mac 0.5. Later versions should support .fmt files too. Earlier versions will not.) Or does anybody see what I did wrong? somewhere in the context of pseudocomments with abc2ps I read that a pseudocomment (wich is maybe another solution to your problem if this is working in abc4mac) if applying to a certain tune has to be AFTER the T:field. Probably an E:field like this has to be part of the header meaning before the first K:field. At least this is a version which you did not try. try: %%staffwidth 6.50in X:1 T:Line width test 360 in header M:C K:C CDEF GABc|CDEF GABc|CDEF GABc|CDEF GABc|] this works with my version of abc2ps (used cm since I have no inch ruler). I tried your examples wit it and got no result too. ?:-| CU Simon Wascher - Vienna, Austria To subscribe/unsubscribe, point your browser to: http://www.tullochgorm.com/lists.html
