Re: [abcusers] Aligning bars across lines?

I use abcm2ps - can this be done? You could put a numbered V: field at the start of each line to fool the program into thinking each line is a separate voice. You would have to turn off the brackets at the left and the long bars between voices (not sure how to do that in abcm2ps, but I think it can be done). You'd still have trouble if the tune had an anacrusis though. Most books on music notation advise against aligning bars on successive lines of music, since it makes it harder for the player to keep the place when sight-reading. I explain: - write each line in a different voice: [V:1] CDEF GABc|..% first line [V:2] EFGA Bcde|..% second line ... - and prevent measure bars from crossing the whole system: %%staves 1 | 2 | 3 | .. Then, you may have up to 16 staves (lines), which is normally enough to fill a page. But, as there is still a bar on the left side, you will have to remove it manually editing the PostScript file (remove or comment the first line ending with 'bar' after the staff definition). -- Ken ar c'hentañ | ** Breizh ha Linux atav! ** | http://moinejf.free.fr/ Pépé Jef| mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] To subscribe/unsubscribe, point your browser to: http://www.tullochgorm.com/lists.html

I'm typesetting some highland bagpipe music, and sometimes it would be nice to have the bar lines aligned from one line to the next. Notes as well, if possible. Most books on music notation advise against aligning bars on successive lines of music, since it makes it harder for the player to keep the place when sight-reading. Most books don't think about highland pipers' problems - the alignment Alasdair is describing is standard in modern books. It helps you see where the melody notes are amid the forest of gracenotes. The main beats are aligned the way I do it in my ABC source. (I have just unsubscribed as jc - that address won't work after today - use j-c to reply. Off to Croatia, Hungary and Slovakia in a few hours. I'll resubscribe to abcusers under another userid when I get back). cheers - jack To subscribe/unsubscribe, point your browser to: http://www.tullochgorm.com/lists.html

This works very nicely! However, the time signature appears on each line. This can be fixed by commenting out all but the *last* occurrence of the lines ending in 'tsig' (or similar). These appear just below the first line ending in 'bar' that Jean-Francois refers to above. cheers, Ewan Macpherson To subscribe/unsubscribe, point your browser to: http://www.tullochgorm.com/lists.html
[abcusers] floods and the low level
Please, I am sorry to trouble you all, but I cannot find abc's for either Flood's Hornpipe or The Low Level. JC's wonderful tune finder fetches a version of The Low Level OK, but it is not the one that is often played with Flood's. Thanks a lot. [abcusers] Request for aliases for notes.
Hello: In Indian music we use Sa, Re, Ga, Ma, Pa, Dha, Ni instead of CDEFGAB. Is it possible to provide an aliasing command so that we can use SRGMPDN instead of CDEFGAB. If this is possible, then, it would be of great advantage to notate Indian music. Anand -- Close Window$ ! Open Source !! Free software from proprietary mafia !!!
