Subject: [AI] Can we accept this challenge?

 Hello, Friends

As we all would be very well aware of the irritation created by the
scanning material, which is with us as a faithful beloved with her
lover, so, I have a suggestion to make.

But before it, I would like to thank Dr. Rakesh Jain, who is a
peculiarly gentle person, and he always make this Sisyphean task done
for me through our society RSVI.

Having recorded my indebtedness to Mr. Jain, I would opine that this
task of scanning, and thereafter editing it, should be allotted to the
universities by the government. The universities and colleges should
scan all the books which are in their libraries for the visually
challenged. This, I believe, is our right, and we definitely have to
 secure it for us.

The same students who are sighted are getting this lucrative
facility, but, we, who equally need this facility, are deprived of it,
why? Are the libraries books are not for us? Or, do these oafish
blokes think that owing to our impairment we cannot do any strike,
protest or circumvention of any bloody politician or VC, and therefore
 we just deserve negligence!

The administration of the universities and colleges waist their time
and money in cultural and other activities, which, I would animadvert
are for mere frivolity; then, why would they not do this work which is
so indispensable for the visually challenged?

Making the access India as a medium, I would urge to the different
organizations working for the welfare of the visually challenged to
come together and let us blaze a trail against the discrimination
under which we are going from epochs! Come out, my dear friends, let
us jettison off the strong hold of discrimination imposed upon us by
the conventional political and sociological conditions! Let us show
these rascals that we are not cowards; but, on the contrary, we have
the potential to juggernaut and set the rules in our own fashioning!

Remember, if we are steadfastly united for our mission, then success
would come to us as the birds fly towards the spring water.

[AI] Assistance required, 5500...

2007-04-09 Thread amit bhattt
Dear associates,
One cannot stay without expending tools of accessibility for long period.
Specially when advance technology in form of talks and Mobile Speak are being
used in the large scale and giving fruitful results as a whole.
Am gonna buy a handset to be compliant with talks but as usual getting confused
as I Am very choosy in the matter of mobile phone.
There is a Handset of Series 60 in Nokia, 5500 (Sporty Handset.)
I like it’s feature but just got this information that The Nokia 5500 is an
outdoor device, targeting the sportsmen. TALKS does not yet support the special
applications related to sports.
Now, would like to know whether anyone of you is using this handset. The
feature of sports training is additional one in this set and I’d not mind if
talks doesn’t support it but my query is are there any applications or features
in every talks supported handset witch don’t work with talks, like sport
feature would not be supported by talks.
I just want to confirm this so when I obtain Nokia5500, would not have any
feeling in my mind that such feature is not working in my Mobile set and I
shouldn’t have gone for it.
I would really be thankful if anyone of our members can resolve my query and
give me the right solution on my mystification.

Yes I agree. There is no requirement for any furthur guidelines, The members
have been told clearly to send welcome mails and greeting mails directly to
the member and not flood the group. Furthurmore, members were given tips on
easy steps to do so.

Members cooperation is solicitated in this matter.

[AI] Making it easier for the disabled

2007-04-09 Thread Vishal M Jain
Making it easier for the disabled

Apr 9, 2007

The Jindal trust chairperson would like help to improve access to public
utilities for the physically challenged.

Sminu Jindal is seized with a passion to remove obstacles in the way of the
disabled, be it on roads, airports, schools, hotels or petrol pumps.

The wheelchair-borne chairperson of SJ Charitable Trust, which provides
consultancy services to organisations to make their buildings easily accessible
to the disabled, says she would like to have NGOs on board too. In fact,
anyone who is willing to walk with us, she says.

The fee is over Rs 1 lakh for private buildings while the government ones get
the service for Rs 50,000. The fee, she says, is intended to make governments
and companies take the reports seriously.

But Sminu is disappointed with the government. She says her trust carried out
accessibility audits for the New Delhi Municipal Corporation facilities as
well as sites under the Archaelogical Survey of India. None of the two have
implemented her suggestions.

The trust is now talking to HPCL and BPCL, which plan to make all petrol pumps
accessible to the disabled. ITC has also asked for a report and so has the
NDMC, which wants to make its school buildings disabled-friendly, says Sminu,
who is disappointed that most buildings and roads in the country are hostile
to the disabled.

The trust also sends resource persons to various organisations to sensitise
employees on the needs and abilities of persons with disabilities.

It is now looking at Rajasthan and Haryana governments as partners in making
buildings and thoroughfares accessible. Haryana is my native state and I would
love to work with the government there. I am hoping that day comes soon, she
says.

Sminu , who became handicapped at the age of 11 when she met with an accident,
hopes to reach out to more people through her website, which brings together
information on education, rehabilitation, employment and even matrimony and
companionship.

The idea is to enable each person with disability to access all the
information he or she needs, says Jindal, adding, I want disabled persons to
meet
and chat and marry though my website.

How safe are IT professionals in Silicon City is the question

   Hello Dattu

Please explain in what way this article posted by you placed below is in
keeping with the scope of this group.
   Harish.

   K.V. Subramanya

Four software engineers murdered for gain in the last 2 years

BANGALORE: The murder of young software engineer Manoj Kumar has thrown up
the all-important question: how safe are information technology (IT)
 professionals
   working in Bangalore?

With the influx of IT and ITES companies to the city, there is a notion
that professionals from these firms are increasingly becoming soft targets
 for criminals.

In the past two years, at least four young software engineers were
murdered and robbed of cash, credit and debit cards, mobile phones and gold.
 These cases
were reported from the South East division of the city police, which has
 jurisdiction over the IT corridor.

While 24-year-old Manoj was a native of Meerut in Uttar Pradesh, Adeep
Lahiri (32), murdered in December 2006, and Rakesh Kumar (25), strangled in
 April
2005, were from Kolkata and Ranchi. Pratibha Srikanth Murthy (24), who was
done to death in December 2005, was from the State.

   First-time offenders

Interestingly, these murders were committed not by organised gangs but by
first-time offenders. One of the accused in Lahiri's murder was an IT company
employee and the other a former housekeeping employee at ITPL. The alleged
mastermind of Manoj's killing was an attender in a software company.

Besides these murders, in the past three years some 50 employees of IT
firms, business process outsourcing (BPO) units and call centres have been
 waylaid
and robbed of cash and valuables by armed robbers.

According to the police, the odd working hours and often flashy lifestyle
of the software professionals and BPO executives are the major causes for the
crimes. Criminals target software engineers as they assume these highly
paid professionals always carry with them cash, credit cards, high-end mobile
 phones
   and laptops.

IT professionals going home late are increasingly the easy target of
robbers. An analysis of such crimes shows that in most of the cases, the
 victims were
robbed between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. Most of these professionals are
immediately recognisable because of the identity cards slung around their
 neck.

Re: [AI] final judgement of Prasanna Kumar Pincha Vs. union ofIndia!

2007-04-09 Thread Harish Kotian
Hi Asif

What I do is to take a photo copy of the cheque I have issued and inform the
Bank-branch to clear the cheque. I take this care when I don't want the
cheque to be returned relating to signature variation issue.
When the branch is at a distance, I call up the branch and give details of
the cheque.

This works well both ways. This is a suggestion.

 Dear Friends,
If anybody has the final judgment on Prasanna Kumar
 Pincha Vs. Union of
 India.
Please do send at the earliest.
I had warned the ICICI Bank of legal action in case
 they fail to respond to
my application for opening a normal account providing
 all the facilities
given to a usual customer. Now they have agreed for
 providing me the same
facilities given I give them an undertaking to this
 effect that those
facilities would be on my own risk.
How ever, by mistake I provided them with CCPD
 judgment on the banking for
disabled which lays down this condition that A
 visually challenged person
could be issued a crossed cheque at his own risk by
 taking an undertaking to
 this effect from him.
If I could have the above said judgment then I could
 show them the High
Court decision which bars such conditions.
please do help at the earliest.
Dear Amiyo Biswas, You could also show them the same
 judgment which does
 away such discrimination.

 Hello.
How many of us are members of orkut? I believe it
 can serve as a
useful platform for interaction. True that most of
 us are really busy
with our work. But then we cant stop living, aint
 it? In fact, many of
my university teachers have been found being hooked
 on to orkut. So I
extend a cordial hand of friendship to everyone of
 you. Let us unite
and make this world a better place to live in.
 With warm regards,
