 Hello,

Can you read a text or a word file loaded on your mobile? Of course, it
should have storage space for it. Which version of mobile set has got this
capacity? What about Talks 2.5? I am thinking of purchasing a mobile with
Talks compatibility. I want to use it extensively. Otherwise I am not
going to spend money to read numbers and messages..

 Best regards,

 Amiyo.

[AI] Instructions for the AI Bangalore meeting

2007-07-25 Thread Subramani L
Dear Access Indians of Bangalore:

First of all, I would like to thank all of you for the overwhelming
response to the idea of informal meeting. I am happy to let you know
that we have not only reached 20 members, but in all likelihood, would
far exceed the minimum figure.

Now, we are all set to have our meeting this Saturday and for the sake
of our convenience, I would like you to follow the instructions given
below.

1 The meeting starts at 3.00 pm on Saturday, July 28 and so, it would be
convenient if all of you could reach the venue by 02.50 pm just to clear
off formalities early. Except a few of you who have work commitments, I
think it should be ok with most of you.

2 As mentioned before, the venue is Hotel Ashreya International,
Infantry Road, opposite to Police Commissioner's Office. For those
coming from different localities, the best thing is to reach the Shivaji
Nagar bust terminus and take an auto that won't cost you more than Rs
20. As the hotel is famous, it is much easier to ask for it near Shivaji
Nagar. Please note that some busses do stop at Indian Express stop and
is much easier to reach the venue from there, but pl make sure if the
bus you board stops there. I will try and put out a detail route
instruction by tomorrow.

3 Once inside the venue, you need to ask for Shantala 2, which is the
name of the hall where our meeting is taking place. Before asking for
help, please make sure if the person who you turn to help is part of the
hotel or a stranger. Also, I would request you to be careful with your
valuables.

4 As mentioned before, each person should pay Rs 150 as charges for the
hotel. I request you to bring the money with you and pay to Ms Sundari
of Mithra Jyothi who will be at the venue. If you can't pay, kindly
inform me before Friday in the mobile number given below.

5 Some of you have cited your working hours and have asked if coming an
hour or two late is alright. Since the meeting is largely going to be
informal, it is alright, that is, only if you are held back at work.

6 Some of you have also wanted to know, if certain topics can be brought
for discussion. I am sure one hour of our meeting time can be allotted
for productive and serious discussion, that is, if this isn't
objectionable to a majority of participants.

7 If you have any query or doubts please don't hesitate to get in touch
with me at my mobile number.

8 If you want to participate, it isn't too late. Kindly let me know
before Friday.

I hope the instructions are sufficiently clear.

Thanks to you all and looking forward to meeting you at the venue on
Saturday.

Warm rgds,

L. Subramani,

Re: [AI] Typing too much can damage judicial discrimin ation

2007-07-25 Thread Shadab Husain
Well Friends

So it becomes clear that we have to make best out of
limited sources if we have to remain at run in the
race of this intensely competitive world.

Admittedly, since we are visually challenged so we
have no option but to tirelessly use computers and
gadgets, which are acutely injurious for us. Hence,
many of us our suffering from ear diseases; many from
other diseases, which is not at all acceptable. I will
not waste your time in writing about the omnipresent
discrimination and tear jerky story; you people can
add further to this.

Resultantly, we are the ones who suffer the most. So
do we not deserve anything like Domestic violence act?

How many women are really sincere to use this act? I
don’t want a debate telling that men are crueler or
women are; but I want to timidly tell that this act is
being misused and women do not deserve it in all
instances.

World knows that women don’t suffer as we; then why
isn’t there such an act for us? Tell me, tell me.

I am convinced that many would mercilessly make my fun
for my idiot question; but I don’t care for it. I just
asked what humanity made me to ask.

Your friend

In short, this is a good piece of advise to relax and not overdo with the

No. The information is right, especially for the blind, as we out and
out use keyboards. Personally, I experience pain and sometimes my
fingers shake on their own. This happens mostly during the latter part
of the week, as the strain of working for four or five continuous days
takes its toll on the fingers. This is called RSI or Repetitive Stress
 Injury.

As far as i have noticed, with n and e series, you cannot access talks
while the call is in progress. However, some people would claim that it
 is
possible in the set you have mentioned below, but all of them would say
that they have heard this, nobody seems to be telling where they have

[AI] Intel Claims Breakthrough With 40Gbps Optical Chips

2007-07-25 Thread Vikas Kapoor
Intel Claims Breakthrough With 40Gbps Optical Chips
Intel is close to creating chips that transmit data at high speeds using light
instead of electrons.
Sumner Lemon, IDG News Service

Wednesday, July 25, 2007 6:00 AM PDT

at high speeds using light instead of electrons, but products based on the
technology appear to remain over the horizon.

On Wednesday, a team of Intel researchers unveiled a laser modulator made of
silicon that is capable of encoding data at speeds up to 40G bits per second
(bps), a significant increase in speed for the company.

The new modulator, which converts electrical data into light, opens the door to
high-speed optical interconnects for computers and, when combined with 25
hybrid silicon lasers on a single chip, could be capable of transmitting
terabits of data per second, wrote Ansheng Liu, principal engineer at Intel's
Corporate Technology Group, in a
blog post.

Optical interconnects are desirable because fiber optics offer more bandwidth
and carry data farther than copper, which is currently used to connect chips
and move data inside a computer. Because they use laser light to transmit data,
optical interconnects also eliminate the heat created by resistance as
electrons pass through a copper trace.

Liu did not offer any indication of when Intel's silicon-photonics technology
will find its way into a commercial product, suggesting commercial products
are at least several years away.

Intel has been working on silicon laser modulators for some time, hoping to
bring down costs by manufacturing these components with the same technology
used to produce silicon computer chips. The company claimed its first
breakthrough in 2004, with a 1GHz modulator the company claimed was 50 times
faster
than any other silicon modulator. The following year, Intel developed a
modulator capable of encoding data at speeds up to 10G bps.

The 40G bps speed achieved by the company's latest modulator matches the
fastest modulators made using other, more expensive components, Liu said.

[AI] Mozilla Admits Firefox Has Same Flaw as IE

2007-07-25 Thread Vikas Kapoor
Mozilla Admits Firefox Has Same Flaw as IE
Mozilla chief security officer says Firefox has the same flaw that the company
called a critical vulnerability in IE, patch is in the works.
Gregg Keizer, Computerworld

Tuesday, July 24, 2007 9:00 AM PDT

wledged Monday that Firefox includes the same flaw that the company called a
critical
vulnerability in Internet Explorer during a two-week ruckus over
responsibility for a Windows zero-day bug.

Over the weekend, we learned about a new scenario that identifies ways that
Firefox could also be used as the entry point, said
Window Snyder
of Mozilla. While browsing with Firefox, a specially crafted URL could
potentially be used to send bad data to another application.

We thought this was just a problem with IE, Snyder continued. It turns out,
it is a problem with Firefox as well.

The
argument
over responsibility for a flaw that involved both IE and Firefox began two
weeks ago, when Danish researcher Thor Larholm argued that IE contained an input
validation bug that passes potentially malicious URLs to other applications.
Larholm called out Firefox's firefoxurl:// protocol as one that IE mishandled.
He staked out the position that IE was to blame, while other security experts
said it was Firefox's fault.

As fingers pointed, Mozilla
patched
the IE-Firefox interaction bug by releasing an update, Version 2.0.0.5. Even
so, Snyder and others continued to argue that IE was the problem. Microsoft
needs to patch Internet Explorer, Snyder
said
last Wednesday. That same day, Asa Dotzler, director of community development,
contrasted what he said were the differences between Microsoft and Mozilla
on the bug. We think it's Firefox's job to ensure that users are protected
from malicious Web sites when they're surfing the Web in Firefox. Apparently,
Microsoft doesn't think the same for IE, Dotzler
said
 then.

Friday, Jesper Johansson, a former Microsoft security strategist but now a
security program manager at Amazon.com Inc., spelled out how Firefox was as
guilty
as IE of failing to validate input. In a post that leaned on the metaphor of
glass houses, Johansson showed how Firefox passes potentially malicious
URLs to other applications, including the multiple-service instant messaging
client Trillian. Firefox is subject to the exact same flaw that they blame
on IE. Firefox also does not escape quotes in URLs before it passes them on to
protocol handlers, he said.

Snyder did not credit Johansson by name for alerting Mozilla to the Firefox
bug, but she admitted that the flaw should have been spotted. We should have
caught this scenario when we fixed the related problem in 2.0.0.5, she said.

She did not specify when a patch would be issued, but one is in the works,
according to an
entry
 in Bugzilla.

convert those texts into audio format with the help of Kurzweil or

[AI] Life lessons from Dr Kalam

2007-07-25 Thread Pradeep banakar
Hi folks, below pasted article was taken from rediffmail. I wanted to know
from list members that how Abdul Kalam sir personally inspires our community.
starting from me: He is the person who new the potentiality which is hidden
among differently able persons. I usually listen his speeches which brings
some kind of confidence in me to achieve my goal. looking forward from
members.
with regards

Life lessons from Dr Kalam
 Sachin Lele

  July 25, 2007

It was an unexpected choice, but one that filled the nation with pride and joy.

In the five years since Dr Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam took residence
at Rashtrapati Bhavan [Images], he has been nothing short of inspirational. The
man who is synonymous with India's space programme soon became synonymous with
India's sense of pride, particularly for its youth.

I love the fact that he is one man you cannot conveniently categorise. After
all, how do you slot someone whose favourite pastime includes reading the
Bhagvad Gita even though he is a devout Muslim? A remarkable self-made
scientist who pens poetry in Tamil and plays the veena in his leisure time? A
president who retained his fashionably long locks?

This is what I have learnt from the person I think has been one of India's most
interesting leaders in recent times:

1. Humility and modesty

These attributes come naturally to those concerned with causes far greater than
personal gain.

India's first attempt at launching the Satellite Launch Vehicle met with
failure. At that point, Dr Kalam took responsibility for his colleagues and
juniors and became answerable for what went wrong. When the second attempt
succeeded and took India into the space age, he stepped aside and let his
colleagues take credit for this grand achievement.

Attempting something this selfless requires dedication to the achievement of a
larger goal; it is the final goal that matters, not who takes the credit for
the achievement.

Over time, I have tried putting a lot more emphasis on the task at hand, and on
its flawless execution. Also, in my small way, I look out for people at work or
in my personal space, while taking part responsibility for their actions.

Dr Kalam was embarrassed by public acclaim to the extent that that he did not
like being called Bharat Ratna Dr Kalam. He even gently reminded the directors
at the Defence Research and Development Organisation to not refer to him as
Bharat Ratna; he did this by having a circular sent across through the DRDO
headquarters that civilian awards cannot be used as titles! This, in today's
world, where we mostly see people chasing titles and designations simply to
flaunt them to their peers.

In my personal space too, the people I respect the most are the ones who are
low-profile in these matters. It is almost immediately endearing when you come
across people like these.

2. Respect

Dr Kalam has the utmost respect for everyone he interacts with. He even treats
and talks to kids as his equals, and respects their opinions. I know of
instances where he refers to professors as 'Professor X' and means it with
respect. He attaches great importance to their knowledge and experience; even
though he might have achieved a lot than they have, he believes there is a lot
to learn from each of them.

Not being judgemental, respecting elders, teachers, professors and looking
beyond caste, race, age and colour have taken on a whole new meaning in today's
society. Over time, I have realised that the people who respect others the most
are the ones who are the most respected.

3. Spirituality

It might surprise a few people that a space scientist can be so spiritual. Dr
Kalam recites the Gita and the Quran better than some of the more renowned
spiritual 'gurus' of today. He believes in the strength of virtues and values,
and the role they play in shaping the youth and society in these times.

A complete vegetarian, a teetotaller and a bachelor, Dr Kalam's spirituality
seems to be driven by practicality in a world where these attributes might be
frowned upon.

It's clear that he respects other religions, and has done his best to
understand them -- something that a lot of us need to imbibe ourselves.

4. Being yourself

The pressures and expectations of the presidential post never got to Dr Kalam.
The usual full-sleeved blue shirt, the long grey hair, and various 'Kalam-isms'
like 'Fantastic!', 'Funny guys, why did they do that?' and 'What's happening?'
have made it to many parts of the Rashtrapati Bhavan. In this case, the person
changed the place, rather than the place changing the person.

Situations never changed the person Dr Kalam was. He is disarmingly
approachable to students, civilians and politicians.

It is this genuineness that makes us all individuals in the first place. I try
keeping that in mind when I get flustered by grand or formal situations. I no
longer constantly bother about how I speak or dress, thanks to a

Re: [AI] My new assignment

2007-07-25 Thread Atul R Sahay
Friend,
Security administration is fundamentally administration, of course
pertaining to Security. Yes it will mean a lot of interaction with law and
order enforcement agencies. As you are aware, I was getting another job as
Corporate Quality Head but that was at Kolkata. This assignment will let me
remain at Jamshedpur and strengthen NAB's Jharkhand Branch further.
Community Services too reports to my new Chief and hence a potential to
leverage for NAB. My Boss's Boss happens to be DMD Corporate Services. To
give you an example of what can be done for NAB in future, I am getting
Sports Cafe inaugurated at JRD Sports Complex tomorrow which will lead to
the employment of 2 persons with visual impairment straight away. This quick
allotment to was due to new contacts. You saw some other ventures like that
during your last visit to Jamshedpur. Come again after an year and you will
see what being a Gorkha means to our community at Jamshedpur. By the way,
my past is not going to leave me and I am expected to flood the new area
with improvement initiatives such as value engineering and Six Sigma
projects. In fact this is the major expectation of my new Boss.

With best regards,

Atul.

In short, Dr Kalam was People's President in reality and it is misfortune
for us that so called our representatives haven't chosen to him for next

which is hidden among differently able persons. I usually listen his

 Life lessons from Dr Kalam
 Sachin Lele

  July 25, 2007

It was an unexpected choice, but one that filled the nation with pride and
 joy.

In the five years since Dr Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam took
residence at Rashtrapati Bhavan [Images], he has been nothing short of
inspirational. The man who is synonymous with India's space programme soon
became synonymous with India's sense of pride, particularly for its youth.

I love the fact that he is one man you cannot conveniently categorise.
After all, how do you slot someone whose favourite pastime includes
reading the Bhagvad Gita even though he is a devout Muslim? A remarkable
self-made scientist who pens poetry in Tamil and plays the veena in his
leisure time? A president who retained his fashionably long locks?

This is what I have learnt from the person I think has been one of India's
most interesting leaders in recent times:

 1. Humility and modesty

These attributes come naturally to those concerned with causes far greater
 than personal gain.

India's first attempt at launching the Satellite Launch Vehicle met with
failure. At that point, Dr Kalam took responsibility for his colleagues
and juniors and became answerable for what went wrong. When the second
attempt succeeded and took India into the space age, he stepped aside and
let his colleagues take credit for this grand achievement.

Attempting something this selfless requires dedication to the achievement
of a larger goal; it is the final goal that matters, not who takes the
 credit for the achievement.

Over time, I have tried putting a lot more emphasis on the task at hand,
and on its flawless execution. Also, in my small way, I look out for
people at work or in my personal space, while taking part responsibility
 for their actions.

Dr Kalam was embarrassed by public acclaim to the extent that that he did
not like being called Bharat Ratna Dr Kalam. He even gently reminded the
directors at the Defence Research and Development Organisation to not
refer to him as Bharat Ratna; he did this by having a circular sent across
through the DRDO headquarters that civilian awards cannot be used as
titles! This, in today's world, where we mostly see people chasing titles
and designations simply to flaunt them to their peers.

In my personal space too, the people I respect the most are the ones who
are low-profile in these matters. It is almost immediately endearing when
you come across people like these.

 2. Respect

Dr Kalam has the utmost respect for everyone he interacts with. He even
treats and talks to kids as his equals, and respects their opinions. I
know of instances where he refers to professors as 'Professor X' and means
it with respect. He attaches great importance to their knowledge and
experience; even though he might have achieved a lot than they have, he
believes there is a lot to learn from each of them.

Not being judgemental, respecting elders, teachers, professors and looking
beyond caste, race, age and colour have taken on a whole new meaning in
today's society. Over time, I have realised that the people who respect
others the most are the ones who are the most respected.

 3. Spirituality

It might surprise a few people that a space scientist can be so spiritual.
Dr Kalam recites the Gita and the Quran better than some of the more
renowned spiritual 'gurus' of today. He believes in the strength of
virtues and values, and the role they play in shaping the youth and
 society in these times.

A complete vegetarian, a teetotaller and a bachelor, Dr Kalam's
spirituality seems to be driven by practicality in a world where these
 attributes might be frowned upon.

It's clear that he respects other religions, and has done his best to
understand them -- something that a lot of us need to imbibe ourselves.

 4. Being yourself

The pressures and expectations of the presidential post never got to Dr
Kalam. The usual full-sleeved blue shirt, the long grey hair, and
