[AI] GoldWave scripts updated

2008-01-22 Thread Jeet
Hello friends the very popular Scripts for Goldwave has now been updated to V
1.57,
New!
Version 1.57

Support for zoom level:

In this release, we developed full support for very popular and useful feature
of Goldwave, known as “Zoom level,” JAWS now reads each change on zoom level,
and reports the current level without changing it, this development turns the
hard wooden board of audio-editing into soft buttered sheet, you now know as
well as control the amount of the cursor keys, page up and page down keys and
markers are moved with each key press in an audio file.
For more information including hotkeys and dependency, refer to the getting
started document installed with scripts.

Training mode:

This very popular and exciting new feature works like a tutor for a beginner
user, we lead by example that this feature was developed by a beginner user of
Goldwave, Ram Kumar, even the idea came from me, but he worked hard to get it
working.
My very-very special thanks goes to him for it!
Best thing is: you can turn it on or off as soon as you become familiar with
GoldWave, it speaks messages on places like Main window, sound window, control
window and more, telling what to do there, and a review message script is also
written in case you miss-out the message what JAWS said. This script does not
require the training mode to be turned on, if you press the key ctrl+` (Grave),
it would read the message for you.

Work around:

Two scripts as work around have been written and I maintained the tradition of
having reading scripts with ALT+Shift, to say the cursor time position:
Alt+Shift+U
and to read the remaining time: ALT+Shift+R
Thank you, we hope this new update will make your day brighter.
A podcast is also done discussing the new features in this update.
Audio page for the podcast,
and scripts page for the script set!
Thank you.
Note: the contact info is found in the readme installed with scripts,
and in the podcast at the end!
Thank you very much.

Re: [AI] accessible mobile sets

2008-01-22 Thread Mamta
Hello bhaiya!
No you can not use the Nokia Audio book player with 2nd Edition phones witch
the N70 is one.

Other then that, I do not know of a reader that you will be able to use on
the cell phone.

It seams that E books are still difficult to read on mobiles!
Lets hope for some good technology to come up for development in this
regards in future

hope that this helps!
many thanks!
regards
Mamta.

hello mamta,
firstly congratulations on your wonderful success. you sure make
everyone proud of you. keep on keeping on.
as for the issue with e text books, i could use that round about
route, but the quality of the voice goes down drasticaly when
converting from text to mp3. also it takes a very long time. can i use
the nokia audio book software with nokia n 70?
i really wish there was some simple programme with which we could read
e books. this round about way is too time consuming for someone who
reads at least one book in say a day or 2..

divyanshu

You can move messages to that folder as they arrive, or create rules for
messages from groups or specific e-mails to be sent to that folder.

[AI] Protect your PC and personal data from hackers and

2008-01-22 Thread vishnu ramchandani
Protect your PC and personal data from hackers and
malware

By
Vineet Kumar

You do it almost everyday. You login into your
computer, send
 e-mails,
open attachments from friends and strangers, shop
online, transfer
 money
 using your
banks secured payment gateway, chat with friends and
upload personal
 information on social networking sites.

But have you ever given a thought to someone who is
keeping a close
 watch
on all your online activities. Someone, somewhere in
some corner of
 this
 planet
trying to get inside your computer and filch one of
the most
 important
resources of information age: personal data.

Data that can be abused to make purchases online,
send malicious
programmes to all those on your contact list and many
such things to
 harm
 you. Welcome
to the age of hackers (these are people who try to
gain access to
 your
computer using various hacking tools and misuse your
personal data)
 and
 spies lurking
 on the vast Internet highway.

But don't worry. There are ways in which you can beat
the
 hackers. However,
when it comes to security nothing is 100 per cent
secure. Loads of
 exploits are
developed everyday. Updating the knowledgebase should
be a regular
process. Following could be few of the many measures
that could be
 taken
 to protect
your computer and all things that you do online:

~ Install the latest antivirus software (I recommend
Kaspersky, Eset
Nod32, Quickheal, F-Secure) on the computer and never
ever disable
 or
 turn
 it off.
 Install a personal firewall (
 www.sygate.com
 and
 www.zonelabs.com
offer free versions) and Spyware Checker (I recommend
Spybot Search
 &
 Destroy).

~ Keep updating antivirus/anti spywares at least
every 15 days. Use
 separate
 Trojan
removers like anti Trojan shield if possible. Full
system scan with
 your
anti virus at least once in a week or better set it
to scan
 periodically
 and give
a small interval say every Friday (the day may vary
according to
 your
 choice).

~ There are a few free online scanners available at

http://housecall.trendmicro.com

 or

http://www.kaspersky.com/kos/eng/partner/us/kavwebscan.html,
 and

http://support.f-secure.com/enu/home/ols.shtml.

~ Get System's health checked regularly at

http://www.pcpitstop.com/.
The site checks the overall system health, tunes up
the system and
 finds
out the vulnerabilities. It's a free service.

~ Don't ever download or open attachments whose
source you are not
 certain
about. Even if the source is trusted, see if the
content is
 relevant.
 Even
 non-executable
files like *.Doc files can contain macro viruses and
Trojans. There
 are
some special sort of programmes called worms, which
don't need human
 interaction.
You just open a mail or visit any website and that's
it. So always
 stay
alert. Avoid opening e-mail attachments that contain
'.vbs', '.scr',
 '.exe', or
'.pif' file extensions. Files that end in these
extensions are most
 likely
to contain some sort of virus.

~ Web browsers like Fire Fox, IE 7 & Opera offer good
security
 features.
Test your Web Browser for Vulnerability at

http://bcheck.scanit.be/bcheck/.

~ Never download any files specially executables over
P2P
 (peer-to-peer)
sharing networks, because you cannot be absolutely
certain what they
 are.
 P2P file
sharing programmes can lead to the installation of a
lot of adware
 and
spyware. Try downloading executables from authentic
and well-known
 sites;
 don't
 just download files from anywhere.

~ Try not to visit porn sites, Warez, sites of cracks
and serials
 because
most of them have hell lot of latest spywares,
Trojans and viruses
 .One
 visit
and you are gone if your virus definitions are not up
to date.

~ Be familiar with the installed programmes on your
computer. If you
notice a new programme installed, which you didn't in
the first
 place,
 possibilities
are that it might be something malicious.

~ Read the installation agreements carefully when you
download
 something
from the Internet. Pay attention to the terms and
conditions or EULA
 (end-user
license agreements) of the program being installed.
Reference to
 third
party installation should be given more attention.
Some EULA's tell
 you
 that, if
you install the program, you have also agreed to
install some
 spyware
 with
the software. Do check the independent sources as
some EULA's do not
 mention
 about the Spywares.

~ Back up your computer data on a regular basis, at
least weekly.
 Copy
your important documents and files onto a floppy
disk, removable
 drives,
 CD or a
DVD for safekeeping. Don't wait for the disaster to
happen, take the
precaution before hand. Create system restore points
periodically

~ Use e-mail encryption like PGP to send important
information via
 emails.
Don't send important information in plain text.

~ Never respond to unsolicited e-mail. To those who
send spam, one
response or 'hit' from thousands of e-mails is enough
to justify the
 practice. Additio

[AI] EyePoint: Look and click

2008-01-22 Thread vishnu ramchandani
EyePoint: Look and click

Computer scientists are developing a system that would
let you simply look at a desired place on your screen
to click on it by using a keyboard, eliminating
the need for a mouse or similar pointing devices

IDG News Service

The keyboard and mouse have long been the dominant
forms of input on computer systems. Eye-gaze tracking
as a form of input was primarily developed for
disabled users who are unable to make normal use of a
keyboard and pointing device.

Look-Press-Look-Release: The user first looks at the
desired target
brings up a magnified view of the region the user was
looking in. The user then looks again at the target in
the magnified view
However, with the increasing accuracy and decreasing
cost of eye-gaze tracking systems, it will soon be
practical for able-bodied users to use gaze as
a form of input in addition to a keyboard and mouse,
say a group of US computer scientists.

The GUIDe (Gaze-enhanced User Interface Design)
project at Stanford University explores how gaze
information can be effectively used as an input in
addition
to keyboard and mouse.

“Human beings look with their eyes. When they want to
point, either on the computer or in real life, they
look before they point. Therefore, using eye
gaze as a way of interacting with a computer seems
like a natural extension of our human abilities,” the
researchers say in their study. “However, to date,
research has suggested that using eye gaze for any
active control task is not a good idea.”

“Our approach uses gaze as an input without
overloading the visual channel and enables
interactions which feel natural and easy to use,” they
add.

WHAT IT DOES

The EyePoint system provides a practical gaze-based
solution for everyday pointing and selection using a
combination of gaze and keyboard. It works by
using a simple look-press-look-release cycle.

To use EyePoint, the user simply looks at the target
on the screen and presses a hotkey for the desired
action – single-click, double-click, etc.

The system displays a magnified view of the region the
user was looking at. The user looks at the target
again in the magnified view and releases the hotkey.
This results in the appropriate action being performed
on the target.

Pressing and holding down a hotkey
and releases the hotkey to perform the equivalent
mouse action
The region around the user’s initial gaze point is
presented in the magnified view with a grid of orange
dots overlaid. These orange dots are called focus
points and may aid in focusing the user’s gaze at a
point within the target. Focusing at a point reduces
the jitter and improves the accuracy of the system.

Single-click, double-click and right-click actions are
performed as soon as the user releases the key.
Click-and-drag is a two-step interaction. The user
first selects the starting point for the click and
drag with one hotkey and then the destination with
another hotkey.

The user can also abort an action by looking away or
anywhere outside of the zoomed region and release the
hotkey, or press the ‘Esc’ key on the keyboard.

HOW IT WORKS

The eye tracker constantly tracks the user’s
eye-movements, using complex algorithms to help filter
the gaze data. It determines the user’s gaze using
low-cost, commercial cameras to track the location of
the centre of the pupil.

When the user presses and holds one of the
action-specific hotkeys on the keyboard, the system
uses the key press as a trigger to perform a screen
capture
of around 60 pixels in all four directions from the
estimated gaze point.

The system then magnifies the captured region of the
screen. The resulting image is shown to the user at a
location centred at the previously estimated
gaze point, but offset to remain within screen
boundaries.

Then, Eyepoint uses a secondary gaze in the magnified
view for more accuracy.

The user looks at the desired target in the magnified
view and releases the hotkey. The eye gaze is recorded
when the hotkey is released. Since the view
has been magnified, the resulting eye-gaze is more
accurate.

The cursor then moves to the desired location and the
action corresponding to the hotkey (single-click,
right-click, etc) is executed.

“Users strongly preferred the experience of using
gaze-based pointing over the mouse even though they
had years of experience with the mouse,” the
researchers
say.

The GUIDe team is also working on two similar
technologies. EyeExposé renders all the open windows
into thumbnails on the screen – much like the Exposé
feature on Apple computers – thus allowing users to
easily switch between applications. EyeScroll tracks
the eye-gaze to automatically scroll down when
the user’s gaze drops below the middle of the screen.

[AI] (Tech Dose of the day) Streaming Media, AbsoluteDeNoiser, Google's Hoaxes, Terracotta, Witricity, Google bomb, and much much more!

2008-01-22 Thread vishnu ramchandani
Tech Dose of the day

Streaming Media, AbsoluteDeNoiser, Google's Hoaxes,
Terracotta, Witricity, Google bomb.

Group (MphasiS Software Services)

Streaming Media
What is Streaming Media?
Streaming media is multimedia that is continuously
received by, and normally displayed to, the end-user
while it is being delivered by the provider. The name
refers to the delivery method of the medium rather
than to the medium itself. The distinction is usually
applied to media that are distributed over
telecommunications networks, as most other delivery
systems are either inherently streaming (e.g. radio,
television) or inherently non-streaming (e.g. books,
video cassettes, audio CDs). The verb 'to stream' is
also derived from this term, meaning to deliver media
in this manner.
The advances in computer networking combined with
powerful home computers and modern operating systems
made streaming media practical and affordable for
ordinary consumers. Stand-alone Internet radio devices
are offering listeners a "nocomputer" option for
listening to audio streams. In general, multimedia
content is large, so media storage and transmission
costs are still significant; to offset this somewhat,
media are generally compressed for both storage and
streaming. A media stream can be on-demand or live.
On-demand streams are stored on a server for a long
period of time, and are available to be transmitted at
a user's request. Live streams are only available at
one particular time, as in a video stream of a live
sporting event.
What are the social and legal issues?
Some streaming broadcasters use streaming systems that
interfere with the ability to record streams for later
playback, either inadvertently, through poor choice of
streaming protocol, or deliberately, because they
believe it is to their advantage to do so.
Broadcasters may be concerned that copies will result
in lost sales or that consumers may skip commercials.
Whether users have the ability and the right to record
streams has become a significant issue in the
application of law to cyberspace. In principle, there
is no way to prevent a user from recording a media
stream that has been delivered to their computer.
Thus, the efforts of broadcasters to prevent this
consist of making it inconvenient, or illegal, or
both. Plus, using DRM (Digital Rights Management)
technologies recording the bits that came through can
give some control of the reproductions or plays, so if
you have a file created to a streaming capture, you
will need a license or key to unblock / decrypt the
content. Broadcasters can make it inconvenient to
record a stream, for example, by using unpublished
data formats or by encrypting the stream. Of course,
data formats can be reverse engineered, and encrypted
streams must be decrypted with a key that
resides—somewhere—on the consumer's computer, so these
measures are security through obscurity, at best.
Efforts to make it illegal to record a stream may rely
on copyrights, patents, license agreements, or—in the
United States—the DMCA.

AbsoluteDeNoiser
What is AbsoluteDeNoiser?
AbsoluteDeNoiser is an easy to use software that
produces very competitive noise reduction filtering
for digital images. It is a Java software that should
run on almost every machine : Windows 98/2000/XP, Mac
Os X, Unix, Linux, etc.
Principle:
Digital cameras or scanners often produce images that
contains noise, especially when using high ISO. This
noise is made of random pixel variations that damage
the picture in different manner, adding unwanted
granular effects. To obtain a good result, this noise
should be removed paying a great attention to :
Image details that often can be removed with noise,
and edges definition that are often blured by basic
noise reduction technics.
Keeping some granularity to avoid the common "plastic"
effect of too much noise removal.
Working:
AbsoluteDeNoiser works in 3 steps :
Edges detection : this analyse makes a separation
between large surfaces with poor details, and places
where some edges and/or details require a special
attention. The value to tune enables to decide the
sensitivity of the edges detection, thus the amount of
the picture that is to be considered as details/edges
or not. Surfaces and edges will then be processed in
different ways in next steps.
Surfacing : performs a calculation of local color
cohesion to decide, for each pixel, what is the mean
color value in the noise variations arround it,
without merging two different surfaces together. This
step also processes surfaces and edges in two
different ways. The more important is the value that
tunes the surface managment : it is the one that
decides of the effective nois

2008-01-22 Thread Shadab Husain
Sir, this is the nub of the affairs. The insensitivity and ignorance
of teachers for special children is really unforgivable.

I studied at La Martiniere College Lucknow. When I was in 7th I was
told to get out of the college. I was losing sight, and it was
becoming apparent to the principle. The principle Elton Disuza,
couldn't bear a blind child ruining the esteem of the school. He told
my mother that I can only take exams in the school but to attend
classes I was not allowed.

Talking that how the key members of the college coped with my
blindness is pointless when they were determined to chuck me off
outright.

When a child goes to a school he feels that he has a deep emotional
touch with the teachers, friends and atmosphere of it.

Yes, I was becoming blind, but was it not inhuman for the college
administration to throw me out due to it?

I love many teachers of that school. My mam - Mrs Ireland who taught
me in nursery was the first person to sense my eye problem. I used to
bend a lot while writing and reading and this caught her eye. She
called up my mother and told her to take me to an ophthalmologist.

The principle, who still gives sermons of humanity deserves immense
shame for the inhuman behavior he did with a son of the college for
whom the world was already on the cusp of a strange change. I am
convinced that there are plenty of such crackpots existing in our
society, and, I am really looking forward to hearing a documentary
criticizing them.

I didn't hear the movie, but it was realistic and this is enough.
Shall we go to the backwoods to find a person who, without being
defective understands our grievances?

Had not the movie portrayed that the teacher too was dyslexic it would
have sent out a relatively wrong message. We should deeply appreciate
such brainchild themes.

Shadab Husain

Re: [AI] accessible mobile sets

2008-01-22 Thread Divyanshu Ganatra
hello mamta,
firstly congratulations on your wonderful success. you sure make
everyone proud of you. keep on keeping on.
as for the issue with e text books, i could use that round about
route, but the quality of the voice goes down drasticaly when
converting from text to mp3. also it takes a very long time. can i use
the nokia audio book software with nokia n 70?
i really wish there was some simple programme with which we could read
e books. this round about way is too time consuming for someone who
reads at least one book in say a day or 2..
regards,
divyanshu
