[AI] Need Digital Recorder Urgently

2008-04-25 Thread Sameer Latey

Dear Friends,

I am in urgent need of a digital recorder with a minimum of 3
hours recording capacity. It should be capable of being operated
independently by a VH person. Also, it should be possible to
transfer the recordings onto a computer by means of a data cable
or some other means.

The recorder can be battery operated or can draw power from a
normal electrical socket.

Please inform me as to the companies manufacturing such
recorders & model numbers, price etc.

Also, in case anybody is using such a device, please share your
experiences.

Thanking you in advance for any & all assistance.

Regards
Sameer Latey

Re: [AI] knowledge about format OS

2008-04-25 Thread Wael

in fact, you format the hard disk partition C, not the
OS itself.
partition C may be the only partition on your hard
disk or one of some other partitions but still it is
the home path in which your OS should be installed
over.

when it comes to formatting, two major options are
focused, FAT32 and/or NTFS.

it is the way in which your partition stores the basic
informations about the stored active files, e.g.
FAT stands for: file allocation table.
it is the table of contents of your partition, the
contents are the file names stored, file locations,
extensions, sizes and much more.
the main reason behind creating such table of
contents, is the easy search and indexing.
NTFS is more accurate in defining a table of file
attributes, for better access and higher compression
and security.

[AI] New feature in JAWS 9 update 1

2008-04-25 Thread Mamta
Hi friends, I just got this, and I thought you might want to read it.

The default behavior for JAWS has always been to automatically start
reading Web pages when the pages load. Many of us press CTRL to stop
speech and then press CTRL+HOME to go back to the top of the page and
begin reading by sentence, paragraph, or other methods. A new feature in
JAWS 9 update 1 now lets you use the Adjust JAWS Options dialog box to
set JAWS to NOT read automatically. Here's how:

1. On any Web page press INSERT+V to open the Adjust JAWS Options dialog
box.

2. Press D to move to "Document automatically reads - On"

3. Press SPACEBAR to change this to "Document automatically reads - Off"

4. Press ENTER to close the Adjust JAWS Options dialog box.

This setting remains in effect even when you close and restart JAWS,
unless you change it back.

hope this helps many thanks
rgds
Mamta.

[AI] Episode 52 of our online radio show

2008-04-25 Thread Pranay Gadodia
Dear friends,
Episode 52 of Eyeway Yeh Hai Roshni Ka Karawan has been uploaded on our
website. To listen to it online visit www.eyeway.org/include/radio/radio.php.
Here navigate down to the heading of Internet Broadcasting and click on the
link of the Episode #.

We are very happy to share with you that with this episode 52 we are completing
two years of doing our radio show Eyeway Yeh Hai Roshni Ka Karawan. We thank
one and all of you for being with us all through.

It has been an exciting journey. While sharing out with so much interesting
information we also learned a lot.

In episode 52, we would not be meeting any new personality in the interview
section, nor would be the celebrities telling us about any new foreign blind
achiever. And similarly the advice section would not be dealing with any new
topic.

The year past, each interview and each profile inspired us to accept the
challenge of blindness, and move ahead. Advice section of each episode informed
us on many facets of our life.

So in this episode, we roll back and bring you a few glimpses of what we learnt
from our guests in the past one year. Though every episode has been special to
me, but I really enjoyed making this episode 52. Hope you like it as well.

For a few days the show is taking a pause, but we would definitely come back
very soon with new energy and more information to share in the third year.

Nevertheless, our Eyeway Helpdesk would be continuously working, and feel free
to contact us for any queries you ever have related to life with vision
impairment.

So enjoy listening to this show, and also help us in spreading the word about
it.

Thanks and regards,

[AI] Yahoo plans to open its site to more applications

2008-04-25 Thread renuka warriar

News Update Service

Sci. & Tech.
Yahoo plans to open its site to more applications

SAN FRANCISCO (AP): Yahoo Inc. plans to make its Web site a social hub by
hosting applications from other online services, part of the Internet pioneer's
effort to spawn more advertising opportunities.

``We are going to rewire the entire experience at Yahoo to make it social in
every dimension,'' Ari Balogh, Yahoo's chief technology officer, said Thursday
at a ``Web 2.0'' conference that drew a crowd of more than 1,000.

The more open platform copies a concept that already has been embraced by
Internet search leader Google Inc. and a variety of online social hangouts,
including
Facebook Inc. and News Corp.'s MySpace.com.

Yahoo's new look will give its roughly 500 million users greater flexibility to
customize Web pages. They will be able to pick from a variety of
mini-applications,
known as ``widgets,'' and plant them just about anywhere on the site, including
their personal version of the front page.

Hoping to capitalize on the social networking craze, Yahoo also is making it
easier to connect with friends and family through its Web site. For example,
it will highlight messages from e-mail users' most frequent connections let
them track the activities and opinions of online buddies.

The makeover's timing hasn't been determined, but it will happen before the end
of the year, Balogh said. It could still be derailed if Yahoo is taken over
by Microsoft Corp., which has offered to buy its rival for more than $44
billion in cash and stock.

Maintaining that Microsoft's bid is insufficient, Yahoo has been implementing a
long-promised turnaround strategy designed to boost revenue growth after
more than two years of financial lethargy. Management has promised the
Sunnyvale-based company's revenue will climb more than 20 percent in 2009 and
2010.

Yahoo also announced on Thursday a three-year advertising and content-sharing
partnership with CNet Networks Inc., an online entertainment and technology
news service.

Like Yahoo, CNet is trying to snap out of a prolonged funk and fend off an
unwelcome advance. A group of dissident shareholders led by New York investment
fund Jana Partners LLC wants to overthrow CNet's current board because of the
company's struggles.

Empowering friends and family to track each other has raised privacy concerns
at Facebook, but Balogh said Yahoo will take steps to ensure users retain
control over their personal information.

This isn't Yahoo's first attempt to become a bigger player in the Internet's
social scene. The company launched a social network called ``360'' in 2005,
but recently closed the service down because it never caught on. Yahoo also
offered to buy Facebook for $1 billion in 2006 only to be rebuffed.

Privately held Facebook last year sold a 1.6 percent stake to Microsoft for
$240 million.

Now Microsoft wants to buy Yahoo in an effort to chip away at Google's huge
lead in Internet search and advertising. If Yahoo's board doesn't agree to a
sale by Saturday, Microsoft has threatened to try to replace the 10 directors
in an attempt to complete the deal.

Thanks vishnu, for updating me on the subject. I was thinking in my
subconscience while writing of RBI/SC ruling over this issue circulated to
banks giving guidelines on the matter relating VI which was lengthily
discussed here too sometimes back giving only ltd rights. I will be really
glad hearing your confirmation on whether a fresh guidelines on the same
have come up? Until the provisions are lined in the rules, even the
smallest personnel in the bank may well turn us to the way out.

2008-04-25 Thread Subramani L
But folks...

I have accidentally gotten into one more problem... I think I have also
turned on 'frames' because JAWS keeps reading left frame, right
frame Etc. How to get rid of this. I am also getting a message that
says "Microsoft Word Dialogue, Word has reached end of the search. Would
you like to continue" the choice is "ok button" or "Cancel butten" and
neither actually works because the box keeps reappearing irrespective of
what you press. Folks, I don't know what this is? Pl help?

Yes. The Control Shift E command will turn off Track Changes and the
same
key stroke will turn it on again.

Folks:

As I was looking at the tool bar of MS Word, I pressed 'track changes'
in order to see what I have deleted and inserted. Though this is a great
thing, I am now unable to see synonyms of words which I used to get
automatically if I press the applications button after selecting the
word for which I want meaning. When I press application button after
selecting the word now, I get things like 'track changes', 'reject
insertions', 'accept insertions', 'cut', 'copy' etc, but no 'synonyms'.
What to do and how to get back the original settings. I need this help
as early as possible, as I am sitting to finish some urgent work at
office.

Subramani

Re: [AI] Made changes to MS Word settings and need help to correct

2008-04-25 Thread Amiyo Biswas
Hello,

I am not quite sure of it. Perhaps you can activate the Reset button in the
Customise dialogue box under the View menu. It is supposed to restore the
default settings.

Alternatively, you can download wordweb, a free and very good dictionary
from
http://wordweb.info/free
Just press alt+ctrl+w on a word anywhere in any application, it will bring
up the meanings, synonyms etc.

Best regards,

Amiyo.
