2008-07-14 Thread Vamshi. G

For the past ten days, youtube videos are not audible though I can see

Also suggest if there are any other softwares which run with youtube
videos. Awaiting your reply.

Re: [AI] Help needed regarding Jaws90.(File Extentions)

2008-07-14 Thread Viraj
Hello,

It is not a jaws specific issue. You can go to Start Menu>Settings>Control
Panel>Folder Options and disable the option for hiding known file extentions
with any version of Jaws or even without it. To do this, press Control Tab
to land on the View tab in Folder Options, press tab to focus on the Tree
View there and press H twice to get the Hide Extentions for Known File
Types, which is turned on by default. Press Space to turn it off. Complete
the process by pclicking Apply and OK buttons.

Dear Friends,

I recently met a visually-challenged person with 70% eye-vission, who had
done B.tech in textile in 2003. He did his schooling and Engineering all in
normal school and college; upto his engineering, he didn't aware of any
special school or training institute for Visually-challenged persons. In
2005 he had some basic computer training with JAWS in an NGO and got
placement, but the salary was around 2,500. After that he changed his job
related to his own field, again he is not satisfied with his job due to
various reasons (low-salary, not cooperation from other staff management and
so on.) Now he is doing MBA through distance mode.

I request you all to give your suggestions and your oppinion,

What can he do next? What would be his current position in job market with
B.tech in textile with his Visual impairment? Will Jaws support for
designing and other application related to his textile job?

Please share your views to me, with your help I can guide him to the best.

Waiting for your earliest response.

Your best bet would indeed be Dragon NaturallySpeaking along with J-say
technology. However, be aware that speech recognition is not perfect. You
will need to continuously correct the computers misrecognition while you

1. Generally, I fail to read messages received in HTML format and PC hangs

PL] What version of Jaws are you using? I am using v9.216 and have not had
this problem. Set outlook to read all e-mail in plain text and see if it
solves the problem.
2. there is a folder rss feeds. Now, can we access rss feeds with outlook,
if so, how?
PL] We can. Just go to the rss folder. Once you hit enter on it, tab into

Re: [AI] A peculiar problem with JAWS 5.0

2008-07-14 Thread Adhimoolam Vetrivel Murugan
I think JAWS script for IE7 should solve your problem. CUNY where I
teach for example has not yet upgraded to JAWS 9 and I still use JAWS
5 with IE7 without any problem. You may also consider downgrading to
IE6. In any case as a long term solution it is a good idea to upgrade
to JAWS 9. Of course a costly option since these institutions make dam
money out of our basic necessities.

Re: [AI] Aware the doctors about the assistive technology

2008-07-14 Thread Wael

since I am for the idea you talked about, I held regular meetings for
eye-medical doctors in various places to talk about adaptive technologies for
blind and low vision people.

I also publish arabic articles on my blog in this concern.
if you read arabic just visit:
http://blindPlus.blogspot.com

and also I am preparing a subject material for the faculties intended with
studying technology to add a new subject including assistive technology. It
will help more people to get proper awareness of the rights of the visually
impaired.

Re: [AI] info regarding buying a mobile handset

2008-07-14 Thread Adhimoolam Vetrivel Murugan
I agree. I use N72 and it's the nicest phone that I have ever used. I
think the N72 costs around RS 8200 in India. I also totally agree that
one doesn't really require the Infra red since bluetooth technology is
far advanced than the former. Also Infra red a bit difficult to use
since one is expected to keep Infra red device along the same line and
that's not easy for us.

[AI] Need proper guidance from you all for a visually-challenged candidate with B.tech in textile.

2008-07-14 Thread Saravanan Ramadoss

Mobile: 09840228250.

Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Skipe: speak-sarav.

Waiting for your earliest response.

Thanks in advance.

[AI] Announcing Techshare India 2008 Road Shows - Breaking the barriers for people with disabilities

2008-07-14 Thread Vasu
Did you know that 1 in 4 people have visual impairment? Did you know 1 in 4

Did you know 1 in 5 people have hearing impairment?

With emerging technologies, innovation has no bounds. Technology is an

include them in the main stream. Today, a visually impaired person can work
with computers using a screen reader! Isn't that wonderful? But many of us
are unaware about this fact. The reason being 'lack of awareness' about the
needs of people with disabilities and how can technology be helpful in
meeting those needs.

Re: [AI] Aware the doctors about the assistive technology

2008-07-14 Thread Vamshi. G
I strongly agree with this. I was a patient of Shankar Nethralaya,
which is one of the best in India, from my third year. Now I am 26 and
till now they haven't told me about assistive technology. Because of
this, I was deprived of computer usage till my twenty fifth year and
as a result lost many oppurtunities. So, I feel the doctors should
create awareness among patients about such things which develops self
confidence in patients. And for this first the doctors themselves
should be aware of latest technology. Some serious thought should be
put into this matter because any person with disability will first
meet the doctor and if right information is provided at that stage, it
would be great. Sorry for a lengthy mail.

Re: [AI] Jaws script for google talk and yahoo messenger

2008-07-14 Thread Amit Bhatt
As far as Yahoo Messenger is concern, version 7 works well with Jaws 8.
You can use script but also see trying to use Yahoo 7.

Thanks,
