Re: [AI] convertion of dat file into wmv file

2008-08-12 Thread Pranay Gadodia
Hi Vamshi,
DVDs or CDs are read-only media and you cannot change the filenames like you
do for files in hard disk or pen drives.
i haven't tried renaming files while writing disks. if it is not possible,
you may copy the dat file on your hard disk, rename it and then burn your
DVD/CD.
i do not know if renaming it to .wmv would still keep it valid for playing.
..dat files when renamed to .avi, they do play in softwares like winamp, VLC
media player, which to my experience are more accessible than windows media
player.

HTH,

thanks and regards,

Subject: [AI] convertion of dat file into wmv file

Hai friends

In one of my earlier mails, I posted the problem of converting dat
files on a DVD into wmv files. One of the accessindians advised me to
rename the file into wmv file. But when I am trying to rename the file
on the DVD, it is saying files on this disc are read only and cannot
rename them. Should I rename them while writing into another DVD? I
once again request one of you to tell me the process of convertion in
a more elaborated way. Awaiting your reply.

Thanks and regards

[AI] Three winning ideas

2008-08-12 Thread pradeep banakar
Three winning ideas

SOME IDEAS THAT CHANGED MUMBAI

Three of the successful ventures that HT featured in its series

"Runner-up (Rs 1 lakh) PAWAN SAIL, 35

Idea: He wishes to start a playschool run by senior citizens who have
been abandoned by their families. This will give them a sense of worth
and ease their lone liness, while children will benefit from their
experience.

PAWAN SAIL has always struggled to find decent childcare for his
daughter. His parents live in their native place and he never found a
centre that he felt was safe.

One day he picked up HT and was stunned by the stories of how a simple
idea can take off and make a huge impact. Sail sat down and started
thinking about his family and how great it is when the generations
come together.

"I suddenly thought that children could really benefit from the care,
wisdom and values of the elderly - many of whom are lonely and
confined to old-age homes," said the 35-year-old who works as a
translator at the Income Tax Department. "The elderly can provide safe
and good care for children and get an income while they do it, so they
don't feel left out by society."

Sail was inspired by the series to make a difference. "It was great to
see such ideas in black and white" he said. "I read HT every day and
particularly enjoy the supplements in Café, like Cars & Bikes and Plug
& Play . The editorial page is also great."

If we press backspace in Read-Only fields, it goes to back  a page.

But, is there any customization or configuration of Jaws or is it needed to

Thanks in advance,

[AI] he never felt disabled

2008-08-12 Thread Asudani, Rajesh
  Pradip Kumar Das

CUTTACK: It was sheer determination and lots of perseverance for this
15-year-ol physically challenged boy to achieve what even thousands of able
students
of his age failed to accomplish. Jagannath Gauda of Gochhabadi village of
Buguda block in Ganjam district has never felt let down for being born without
the forelimbs. He has once again proved that if there is a will, there is
definitely a way when he passed this year's Matriculation examinations in second
division as a regular student.

For not having any of the hands since birth, Jagannath started writing with
his legs when he entered the primary school of his village. Since I was able
to do a lot of things with my legs like brushing my teeth, cleaning my tongue,
drinking and eating, I thought of why not give a try to hold a pencil and
start writing with my legs. With some initial hiccups, it worked wonders and
soon I mastered the art, says a confident Jagannath who has since then not
looked back and very easily went on to pass the Class IX examinations in 2007.

 Pre-board exam

He also cleared the Class X pre-board examinations last year from Buguda
People's High School by writing the answer scripts with his legs. But during the
final school leaving (Matriculation) examinations for which he had to appear
the test at nearby Balipadar High School in March this year, the State Board
of Secondary Education (BSE) authorities did not allow him to write the answers
with his legs.

Instead, the centre superintendent engaged a class IX student of the school to
write the answer sheets for him. A reluctant Jagannath had to dictate the
answers to the junior girl in a separate room. Although, he was not satisfied
with the arrangements, Jagannath was confident of clearing the examinations
with flying colours. I could have got better marks writing with my legs,
Jagannath, who secured 51 per cent of marks in the examination, rues.

Except for putting and removing his clothes, Jagannath doesn't depend on
anyone else in carrying out his daily chores. He can comb his hairs and play
certain
indoor games like ludo and cards with his legs. He plays football with elegance
but loves to watch cricket matches in TV, says his father Surendranath
Gauda who works as a village choukidar to support a family of six members,
including three sons and a daughter.
 Poverty

Seeing the child born without the forelimbs, the neighbours and relatives
suggested the parents to name him after Lord Jagannath. But unlike Lord
Jagannath,
none of this Buguda Jagannth's siblings are handicapped.

Although, his parents tried their best to arrange artificial limbs for the boy
but acute poverty has denied them the opportunity. I took him to National
Institute of Rehabilitation Training And Research (Nirtar) at Olatpur in
Cuttack two years ago but the doctors their demanded Rs.1 lakh for the purpose
which I am not able to arrange till date, says his father.

[AI] UNITED NATIONS DECLARATION ON THE RIGHTS KOF DEISABLED

2008-08-12 Thread KODAKKAL SHIVAPRASAD

UN DECLARATION ON THE RIGHTS OF DISABLED PERSONS top

The General Assembly:

Mindful of the pledge made by Member States, under the Charter of
the United Nations, to take joint and separate action in
co-operation with the Organisation to promote higher standards of
living, full employment and conditions of economic and social
progress and development.

Reaffirming its faith in human rights and fundamental freedoms and
in the principles of peace, of the dignity and worth of the human
person and of social justice proclaimed in the Charter.

Recalling the principles of the Universal Declaration of Human
Rights, the International Covenants on Human Rights, the
Declaration of the Rights of the Child and the Declaration on the
Rights of Mentally Retarded Persons, as well as the standards
already set for social progress in the constitutions, conventions,
recommendations and resolutions of the International Labour
Organisation, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and
Cultural Organisation, the World Health Organisation, the United
Nations Children's Fund and other organisations concerned.

Recalling also Economic and Social Council resolution 1921 (LVIII)
of 6 May 1975 on the prevention of disability and the
rehabilitation of disabled persons.

Emphasizing that the Declaration on Social Progress and
Development has proclaimed the necessity of protecting the rights
and assuring the welfare and rehabilitation of the physically and
mentally disadvantaged.

Bearing in mind the necessity of preventing physical and mental
disabilities and of assisting disabled persons to develop their
abilities in the most varied fields of activities and of promoting
their integration as far as possible in normal life.

Aware that certain countries, at their present stage of
development, can devote only limited efforts to this end.

Proclaims this Declaration on the Rights of Disabled Persons and
calls for national and international action to ensure that it will
be used as a common basis and frame of reference for the
protection of these rights:

1. The term "disabled person" means any person unable to ensure by
himself or herself, wholly or partly, the necessities of a normal
individual and/or social life, as a result of a deficiency, either
congenital or not, in his or her physical or mental
capabilities.

2. Disabled persons shall enjoy all the rights set forth in this
Declaration. These rights shall be granted to all disabled persons
without any exception whatsoever and without distinction or
discrimination on the basis of race, colour, sex, language,
religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin,
state of wealth, birth or any other situation applying either to
the disabled person himself or herself or his or her family.

3. Disabled persons have the inherent right to respect for their
human dignity. Disabled persons, whatever the origin, nature and
seriousness of their handicaps and disabilities, have the same
fundamental rights as their fellow-citizens of the same age, which
implies first and foremost the right to enjoy a decent life, as
normal and full as possible.

4. Disabled persons have the same civil and political rights as
other human beings, paragraph 7 of the Declaration on the Right of
Mentally Retarded Persons applies to any possible limitation or
suppression of those rights for mentally disabled persons.

5. Disabled persons are entitled to the measures designed to
enable them to become as self-reliant as possible.

6. Disabled persons have the right to medical psychological and
functional treatment, including prosthetic and orthetic
appliances, to medical and social rehabilitation, education,
vocational training and rehabilitation, aid, counselling,
placement services and other services which will enable them to
develop their capabilities and skills to the maximum and will
hasten the process of their social integration or reintegration.

7. Disabled persons have the right to economic and social security
and to a decent level of living. They have the right, according to
their capabilities, to secure and retain employment or to engage
in a useful, productive and remunerative occupation and to join
trade unions.

8. Disabled persons are entitled to have their special needs taken
into consideration at all stages of economic and social
planning.

9. Disabled persons have the right to live with their families or
with foster parents and to participate in all social, creative or
recreational activities. No disabled person shall be subjected, as
far as his or her residence is concerned, to differential
treatment other than that required by his or her condition or by

Besides, I am able to teach my students and my both sons by maximum using

Further, I am still trying to take more benefits from this system technology

Hi Pratik

Certainly, I do echo your sentiments. This group is made with a specific goal
and all of us are here cherishing it.

The defaulting members are dealt with strictly.

This thread is closed for traffic and all members are again reminded not to
sellect all contacts while sending invitations on such sites.

Re: [AI] use of assistive technology

2008-08-12 Thread Vedprakash Sharma
as for me, it has given a sense of independence which is very important to
attain and retain selfconfidence. secondly, it has opened new dimensions of
progress and prosperity. for example, now I can read books which I wanted to
but there was nobody to read them for me. I have myself typed and formatted
my research-work. no one could do the same with the dedication and
commitment with which I have done it. in my day-to-day life, I am able to
perform more efficiently than ever before. to sum up, the assistive tech is
a boon to me.

[AI] New technology lets visually impaired people sing karaoke

2008-08-12 Thread prateek aggarwal
New technology lets visually impaired people sing karaoke, too
Written by Serkan Toto August 11th, 2008

Two companies from the motherland of Karaoke, Japan, partnered up to
develop a new Karaoke system that is tailor-made to meet the demands
of the blind and visually impaired.

Tokyo-based Nippon Telesoft and Xing from Nagoya will release the
machine this fall. It's Japan-only at this point but Nippon Telesoft
has set up a dedicated English homepage for the product (which means a
lot here in Japan) so that exporting the technology at some point
doesn't seem to be impossible.

This is how it works: The Karaoke machine is connected to a PC (via
USB) in which a special software transforms song lyrics into Braille
characters on a display. When the music starts, the person using the
system touches the display and can "read" the song lyrics in the form
of up to 40 Braille characters appearing on the display. Memorizing
lyrics is no longer needed.

Xing and Nippon Telesoft also say that several of their Karaoke
machines can be operated at the same time.

[AI] vocational training centre for IT in AICB

2008-08-12 Thread prateek aggarwal
New Delhi: A vocational centre for Information Technology (IT) has
been setup by Amway in collaboration with the All India Confederation
of the Blind (AICB) to train the visually impaired.

The AOF - AICB Centre of Excellence was inaugurated by William
Pinckney, Chairman of the Amway Opportunity Foundation and MD & CEO of
Amway India along with A.K. Mittal (President AICB), A.K Kaul
(Secretary General AICB) and other officials of AOF and Amway
Distributors.

Besides vocational training in Information Technology, personality
development programmes and various soft skills modules will be offered
to the visually impaired at the centre.

"We at Amway are extremely proud to be associated with AICB. Our
decade-old relationship now has become even stronger today with a
clear focus of enabling the visually challenged children to have a
better future" said William Pinckney.

The All India Confederation of the Blind (AICB) is a body of blind
persons working towards the challenging task of bringing the blind of
the country out of the present, generally miserable state of
ostracisation, deprivation and neglect to genuine inclusion,
acceptance and development.

[AI] desktopdating

2008-08-12 Thread prateek aggarwal
 respected accessindians!
It's really unfortunate that even after requesting so much some people
didn't stopped sending invitations of desktop dating.
Folks, though I'am a very tiny person to say this, but please think
a bit before posting any post on this very respectable list.
The great accessindia list is imparting informations and serving
people with visual impairment as well as others who are associated
with the community.
I personally feel, that respective list intends to impart
informations which may prove beneficial for visually impaired
indivisual as well as others if required.
While internet has a vast collection of material from informations to
leasure, some people probably fails to choose the right material to
post sometimes.
I request all the honorable members (without addressing anyone
specific), please consider the AI guidelines before posting any
mail to the list.
The trend of social networking websites has gradually increased in past years.
In fact, that's a very nice way to make friends and being connected,
but all the members are humbly requested to please don't send the
invitations of these social networking on this list.
The reason of this is only that it will more better if we all try to
maintain the original format of the list which aims to enrich the
lives of visually challenged and creat a environment where they can
freely help each others and make friendship to insure a better social
as well as personal life.
Finally, I request to harish sir to please take some more strict
action about these posts so that traffic of these kind of threads can
be prohibit.
I really absolutely sorry if you didn't liked what I said.
I said all that because I really respect this list and just aimed to
maintain a pure helpful and harmonious environment.
With profound regards,
Prateek agarwal.

[AI] VoiceXML

2008-08-12 Thread Tech Dose of the Day
VoiceXML
Dosed by Baskar P – M & E Team (from MphasiS Software Services)
What is VoiceXML?
VoiceXML, Voice Extensible Markup Language is designed for creating audio
dialogs that feature synthesized speech, digitized audio, recognition of spoken
and DTMF key input, recording of spoken input, telephony, and mixed initiative
conversations. Its major goal is to bring the advantages of Web-based
development and content delivery to interactive voice response applications.
How does it work?
Just as HTML documents are interpreted by a visual web browser, VoiceXML
documents are interpreted by a voice browser. A common architecture is to
deploy banks of voice browsers attached to the Public Switched Telephone
Network (PSTN) so that users can use a telephone to interact with voice
applications.
VoiceXML interpreter fits between document server and implementation platform.
A VoiceXML document specifies each interaction dialog to be conducted by a
VoiceXML interpreter. User input affects dialog interpretation and is collected
into requests submitted to a document server. The document server replies with
another VoiceXML document to continue the user's session with other dialogs.
Just as HTML documents are interpreted by a visual web browser, VoiceXML
documents are interpreted by a voice browser.
Following are the Goals of VoiceXML:
Minimizes client/server interactions by specifying multiple interactions per
document.
Shields application authors from low-level and platform-specific details.
Separates user interaction code (in VoiceXML) from service logic (e.g. CGI
scripts).
Promotes service portability across implementation platforms. VoiceXML is a
common language for content providers, tool providers, and platform providers.
Is easy to use for simple interactions, and yet provides language features to
support complex dialogs.

[AI] convertion of dat file into wmv file

2008-08-12 Thread Vamshi. G

Vamshi. G

Re: [AI] Problem with MS Word:

2008-08-12 Thread Pamnani
Maybe you have been hitting the enter button too often.
If you go to the end of the line or sentence word by word and you come to
blank then you know that the enter key has been pressed.
your reading is not affected when you read the entire document with Insert
and down arrow.
This bothers you only when you use control and down arrow.
