Re: [AI] Job Alert for the Post of a Lecturar
Hi, I am going to assume that you don't know about the correct practice of giving out information about a job. I have no objection explaining it because I have enough respect for you to think that you are just asking a harmless question, instead of trying to turn this into a skirmish on a publically archived list. 1. The college in question has been advertising for this job for the passed one year. If you had only asked, I would have sent the advertisement for the post across to you. I didn't know that professionals actually went about hiring people through NGOs and personal contacts, with out having the good sense of placing an simple advertisement. I don't believe doing any ones dirty work. 2. No third party is obligated to give out details about a potential employer. This is not a commercial operation. In order to keep the undesirable phone calls and emails from coming, the third party doesn't have to reveal any thing. [AI] Eyeway.org to guide the blind and their families
Is this portal a new one or the already existing one? Renuka. The Hindu News Update Service News Update Service Thursday, March 5, 2009 : 1615 Hrs Health Eyeway.org to guide the blind and their families New Delhi (IANS): A website to create awareness among the blind and people with low vision has been launched here. The NGO, which took the initiative, claims that the portal is the first of its kind in the country. The website www.eyeway.org provides information on eye disorders, services, education, rehabilitation, parenting, legal provisions, recreation and career guidance to the blind people. The website has been specially designed to create awareness among the visually-impaired people on issues related to them. The problem with the blind people is not their blindness, but the thinking and attitude of their families, the society and of themselves, said George Abraham, head of the NGO Score Foundation, during the launch of the website here on Wednesday. The portal is dynamic and has special accessibility features such as choice of background, font colour, text only options and dynamic search functions. It has three sections - informs, inspires and includes, for the wholesome information requirements of the blind. The website enables the user to navigate with the help of magnification and talking software. The software has been bought at a cost of $800 from the US. We are continuously researching for information that is inspirational and empowering visually impaired people, besides looking for opportunities of reaching out to more and more people, said Abraham, who is also the chairman of Association for Cricket for the Blind in India. The NGO also runs a radio programme in Hindi, which broadcasts from 30 stations of All India Radio. There is also a helpdesk at the foundation that receives calls related to various issues that concern the blind people. There are over 16 million blind people in the country and a further 28 million are with low vision. Re: [AI] Job Alert for the Post of a Lecturar
Yes. Individuals and NGOs working for the visually challenged must make sure that things such as selections and appointments of eligible and deserving candidates particularly in government sectors take place in full transparency, instead of becoming, knowingly or unknoingly, a part of the devisive policy of the authority trying to jeopardise the interests of the visually challenged. So why not the full advertisement! I would also request the concerned individuals and NGOs to go through the earlier discussions that we had on such issues and understand them in a possitive manner. - Original Message - From: Vikas Kapoor dl.vi...@gmail.com To: r_akshi_...@yahoo.com; accessindia@accessindia.org.in Sent: Thursday, March 05, 2009 10:07 AM Subject: Re: [AI] Job Alert for the Post of a Lecturar It's not been too late when this kind of topic was comprehensively dealt with on this list. Re: [AI] wayfinder and loadstone demonstration was excellent
Hi Chandra Shekar and all, Glad you found the demo useful. To those of you who wanted the demo recorded, it could not be done owing to two reasons: Firstly, since most of them who attended the demo were more comfortable with the local language, the demo was held in Kannada. Secondly, since Wayfinder does not work indoors, we used a taxi in order to take people around in batches for a live demonstration. For this very reason, demonstrating Wayfinder over Skype is not practical. Regards, Geetha - Original Message - From: M. Re: [AI] regarding outlook
Dear Janardhana, Good morning! I read your mail regarding your problems with MS Office Outlook 2003. I shall advise to use only 1 mail client (either MS Office outlook 2003 or Outlook express). At home I am using Outlook express and in office I am using MS Outlook 2003. Initially, I also faced a lot of problems with MS Outlook 2003 but now I do not face any more problems. It is simple to use. Note the keyboard commands. If I have missed some please do forgive me. 1. To create new mail: Control+n 2. If you want to attach a file, just select the file, copy it and paste it just after Subject in your drafted mail. 3. To forward: Control+f 4. To reply: Control+r 5. To reply to all: Alt+l 6. To send the mail: Use Control+Enter. 7. To navigate between different e-mail addresses, press Alt+t (the tools menu), then press a to go to the accounts options, then press Enter then by using the up and down arrows you can go to the e-mail addresses which you have configured. Points to note are that as you have pressed the Enter key after going to the accounts, the first address is the default e-mail address and if you want to use the second address, then you have to press the down arrow and then press tab 4 times then an option will come as default address, then press space bar then press shift+tab 2 times to finish the process at that point just press space bar. When 1 has more than 1 e-mail configured, mails from all ids do come to the inbox and while replying, it shall be continued from the same address. But if you want to create a new mail and send, then the default user address shall be used. For any more queries can call me from 10 am to 5 pm because at that time I shall be in office and I can tell the keyboard commands just by doing. Keep smiling! Take care and all the best. [AI] Mentally challenged woman delivers baby on roadside
LUCKNOW: State government's much hyped policy of Sarvjan Sukhay and Sarvjan Hitay does not seem to have any space for mentally retarded destitute. In the absence of any shelter home for such people, a mentally retarded woman, who got pregnant after being raped, was forced to deliver a baby on a roadside in the city, managing all alone, unattended and without any safety measure. The shocking incident was reported from Khurramnagar on Wednesday. When tea vendor, Mukhtar, came to his shop in the morning, he heard a baby crying. He saw an infant lying on the pavement wrapped in blood and placenta, while the infant's mentally challenged mother sat beside motionless. Mukhtar rushed to the nearby Relite Hospital and informed doctors who sent a nurse to bring along the mother-child duo to the hospital. The nurse detached the umbilical cord, but when she asked the woman to come to the hospital, she walked away leaving behind her baby boy. The baby was brought to the hospital where he was examined and vaccinated. Later, Dr Azam Ali from the hospital called up Childline (phone number 1098) which brought the newborn to Rajkiya Shishu Grih at Prag Narain road. Superintendent of Shishu Grih, Jaipal Verma, has given directions for proper care of the baby, who, at present is being spoon fed. Thank God, he survived. It's only a wonder that the woman gave birth all on her own. The baby was found timely or else he could have fallen pray to street dogs, said Varsha Sharma, coordinator, Childline, while holding the baby in her lap whom she has named Saksham. Locals in Khurramnagar said the mentally challenged woman used to roam around and hurl abuses at people. Even the police were informed several times but nothing was done, they added. Saksham is 25th newborn to be found abandoned in the city in last one year, of which 22 were girls and three boys. This year alone, four babies have been found since January -- two girls and two boys. Of these, a boy died as he was seriously ill, while a baby girl, only five days old when found, is being treated for septecimia. While the encouraging part is that most of the abandoned babies either have been adopted or are in the process of adoption , Saksham's case has come as a rude jolt to the government. This is not the first time that a mentally challenged woman destitute was raped in the city and forced to deliver a baby on the roadside. Last year too, a mentally retarded woman with a baby was admitted in the Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University by a group of police officers who work voluntarily for the cause. But there is no government set up for such people. For over one lakh mentally retarded children in the state, there are only two government shelter homes, one for boys in Allahabad and another for girls in Bareilly, with a capacity of 50 each. There is no shelter home for mentally challenged adults. After TOI highlighted lack of facilities for mentally retarded people in the state, the UP Human Rights Commission issued a notice to the state government on January 18. But so far, the government has taken no initiative on the issue. While the government splurges crores on security and personal comfort of politicians and parks, it has not even a penny to spare for mentally retarded destitute, said Rajiv Nath, a social activist. People, he said, are also to be blamed as they have not mounted any pressure on the government and their representatives to construct a shelter home. At least, he added, funds can be easily provided for a home through MLA/MP fund. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Cities/Lucknow/Mentally-challenged-woman-delivers-baby-on-roadside/articleshow/4225527.cms Easy tips of improving English at http://shadablucknow.blogspot.com/ My contributions to the press http://shadablucknow.blogspot.com/2008/10/my-contributions-to-press.html#link Many posts on one page http://shadablucknow.blogspot.com/search?updated-min=2008-01-01T00%3A00%3A00-08%3A00updated-max=2009-01-01T00%3A00%3A00-08%3A00max-results=47 To unsubscribe send a message to accessindia-requ...@accessindia.org.in with the subject unsubscribe. [AI] The disabled find an ally in varsity
The disabled find an ally in varsity A PG diploma course will sensitise media students to various issues.Mihika Basu Millions of disabled in the city live as second-class citizens owing to lack of awareness among the masses who think a reserved coach in the local trains is the best the society can do for its less fortunate brethren. Thankfully, help is at hand. The Ali Yavar Jung National Institute for the Hearing Handicapped, in partnership with the Department of Communication and Journalism (DCJ), Mumbai University (MU), is starting a programme on disability communication. Currently, no training is available in India on disability communication for professionals in media, PR, advertising, NGOs and government organisations. Awareness of disability issues is very low in India, even among families of the disabled. Again, while the information is present, it is not available. Hence, the need for this programme, said PJ Mathew Martin, media officer, outreach department, Ali Yavar institute. The institute is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India. The one-year postgraduate diploma in media and disability communication, a first-of-its kind in the country, will commence from the 2009-10 academic session. While the academic council and the management council of the MU have passed the proposal, an agreement will soon be signed between the institute and DCJ. We will provide expertise in disability and DCJ will provide support and expertise in communication. We can also have value additions as part of this programme like learning how to create web access for the blind, or learning captioning for the deaf, said R Rangasayee, director, Ali Yavar institute. The curriculum will encompass disability law, human rights, communication theory and content making -- including films, television, print media, radio programming and advertisements, said Sanjay Ranade, head of DCJ. While the first batch is to have a strength of 30, students from DCJ will also be a part of it. Candidates will get a joint certification from the institute and DCJ. As a prelude, the Ali Yavar institute, in collaboration with DCJ, is conducting a five-day orientation programme (March 2-6). Around 21 students from DCJ are a part of this training. It will enable them to become trainers or resource persons for the programme, said Ranade. [AI] You are not writing properly
Hi Friends, Excuse me for the subject. Had I not used this subject, many of you would have deleted my email. I write a blog which is on honing communicative skills. I am looking forward to receiving your assignments or works. I will try to edit and put them on my blog. I will also try to tell how to make the writing better etc. I have already edited some pieces on my blog, and got a lot of encouragement. Please click this link in order to see the editing: http://shadablucknow.blogspot.com/2008/12/assignment_27.html This is the introductory post: New Plan for Learning English It is encouraging to learn that for some of you this blog is commendable. I feel deeply honoured when you tell me that reading my posts is beneficial and joyous for you. Adding to my joy, some visitors have found this blog so interesting that they have read all the posts just in a time span of two or three days. But, I feel that, only skimming over the posts of this blog would not yield very good results. In order to excel at your communication, it is imperative that you all should put in a little more effort. Therefore, I am planning to start giving assignments to all the readers of this blog. Your job would be to make your own sentences using the words, idioms and combinations of words I have provided and will provide here. In the comment boxes of my blog, I will review your assignments and whatever errors I will spot, I will point them out. You might feel embarrassed if I openly pointed out your errors, so don’t reveal your identity. Click “Comments” and keep on hitting (R) - you will see a radio button “Anonymous” - check this button and post your assignments. I am confident that learning in this novel fashion would be very interesting. First I will publish your posts and then my responses will ensue. What do you think? Is my idea fine or should I add anything in this? Postscript: The English classes will continue. http://shadablucknow.blogspot.com/2008/12/new-plan-for-learning-english.html Regards, Shadab Husain -- Easy tips for improving English at shadablucknow.blogspot.com My contributions to the press http://shadablucknow.blogspot.com/2008/10/my-contributions-to-press.html#links Many posts on one page http://shadablucknow.blogspot.com/search?updated-min=2008-01-01T00%3A00%3A00-08%3A00updated-max=2009-01-01T00%3A00%3A00-08%3A00max-results=30 To unsubscribe send a message to accessindia-requ...@accessindia.org.in with the subject unsubscribe.
