Hello amiyo sir and all the laikha users,
Not sure from where you’ve got the laikha synthesizer, but it isn’t
free as per my knowledge goes.
Freedomscientific, has in fact not made it public, since it’s a part
of jaws 9 bundle that they sell to hindi bilingual users.
It might not ask you for the license, registration key or anything
else, but I don’t think it’s a publically available real speak
synthesizer. Keeping this in view, I won’t advice anyone to upload the
same on this list even if someone having it, it may be illegitimate.
One can contact freedom scientific for more details.

Hi access Indians!
I'm Pradip Chandra Sikdar from Kolkata.
Some days ago, some of you wanted to know whether E63 and N79 fully talks
supported or not.
The answer is yes.
I've personally installed in 1 N79 and 2 E63 handsets and it works.
But if you like to buy E63 then, you must have to installed
nuance talks v4.11.3 in it.
Keep it in mind that, if you like to use a crack version,
you have to hack your device or signed your software 1st.
Nokia devices belong to s60 3rd platform do not support unsigned
application.
So if you ever fall in trouble to sign your app,
I'll try to help you.
Though, signing app is not totally free.
It costs at least rs 199.
Still, it is chiefer than the original version.
So, don't hesited to buy a new handset.
If any of you like to use mobile speak, I'll try to help you also.
With regards,
Pradip :-)

2010-01-30 Thread Saurabh Malav
Hi All,

Lekha TTS is a paid software and developed by Nuance. As per my knowledge
Freedom Scientific has only bought its right to distribute it with JAWS
screen reader. Though it can be used with any screen reader. If any person
wants to use this TTS then he should purchase it from Nuance. Any
distribution without purchasing its license comes under piracy.

Thanks,
Saurabh

Dear Nidhesh:
Would you be please specific as to what is the actual problem you are
facing. From your description, it sounds like the problem that now I am
confronting. Since a long time, the system volume of my computer is getting
mute vary frequently. When ever we are typing for at least 10-15 minutes, it
suddenly goes down and needs to be restarted for getting back to the
normalcy. I have several times formatted the system on the assumption of it
being caused on account of some viruses, but with out any positive result.
Even tried changing sound cards and speakers. But still the problem
persists. Now the engineers are pointing towards some possible trouble with
the audio chips in the mother board. Would like to know anybody of you
respected members in the list have faced this problem? What might be the
possible cause of it? Is there any suggestions to resolve it? Your replies
will be highly appreciated. Hopefully.

With regards.

Some days ago, some of you wanted to know whether E63 and N79 fully talks

The answer is yes.
I've personally installed in 1 N79 and 2 E63 handsets and it works.
But if you like to buy E63 then, you must have to installed
nuance talks v4.11.3 in it.
Keep it in mind that, if you like to use a crack version,
you have to hack your device or signed your software 1st.
Nokia devices belong to s60 3rd platform do not support unsigned

So if you ever fall in trouble to sign your app,
I'll try to help you.
Though, signing app is not totally free.
It costs at least rs 199.
Still, it is chiefer than the original version.
So, don't hesited to buy a new handset.

Subject: [AI] Can a blind person become an insurance agent?

Hi friends,

One of my colleagues in SBI has applied for the CIF exam , Certified
Insurance Facilitator, which is the required qualification to sell SBI
life policies through Bancasurance. But his application has been
rejected on the ground that he is blind.
I came to know this when I contacted the SBI life divisional office at
Tirupati.

Then I enquired with other CIFs(insurance agents) in SBI about the
exact role of an employee selling insurance policies. They said it is
the responsibility of the concerned employee to verify the
authenticity of the documents submitted by the customer, which a blind
person can't do.

So, I would like to know from you
1. Are there any blind persons working as insurance agents?
2. Is there any legal document restraining a blind person from writing
the exam?

I personally feel, if a blind person can't perform a certain duty,
there is no point in writing an exam.

[AI] Nasscom's disabled-friendly initiative gets ecstatic welcome

2010-01-30 Thread Janardhana Naidu
Nasscom's disabled-friendly initiative gets ecstatic welcome

Ramya Kannan

CHENNAI: Earlier this week, through the contemporary media for newsbreaks,
@javed_abidi tweeted about the constitution of Nasscom's disability advisory
group (DAG).

Mr. Abidi, a vociferous campaigner for the rights of the disabled in the
country, could scarcely contain his excitement. It is phenomenal, he said
later, over telephone. In fact, I think the word should be 'historic'. We have
been lobbying with the Nasscom for more than one-and-a-half years now. It is
good to see they have finally understood the issue of disability and its
connect with IT.

The disability sector is ecstatic with the DAG finally put in place. It is
headed by Pradeep Gupta of Cyber Media, who has been sensitive to the
requirements of the disabled. Ten members from the disability and IT sectors
and a couple of representatives from the Nasscom Foundation, including Som
Mittal, are part of the DAG. They are scheduled to meet on Monday.

In using technology, there are a number of issues disabled users face which
others cannot even perceive. Text size, contrast and audio-video formats, and
assistive devices are considerations. The group's agenda is to focus on
accessibility, employability and assistive technologies, said Nasscom
Foundation CEO Rufina Fernandes.

The aim is also to leverage the members' strengths to translate policy into
tangible action. We already have members who, as part of the industry, have
been at the forefront of disabled-friendly initiatives, Ms. Fernandes said.
Besides more access, both to websites and technology, the broader goals of
advocacy and imparting skills that facilitate employability will be pursued.

Easy websites

Web Content Access Guidelines (WCAG) were evolved to make the worldwide web
more accessible to all. Working on the principle, as Tim Berners-Lee, Director,
World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and inventor of the WWW, put it: The power of
the web is in its universality. Access by every one regardless of disability is
an essential aspect.

The WCAG drew up the initial guidelines for site developers and web designers
that would take care of the needs of older users and people with disability.
The guidelines focus on aspects that will make websites easy for all, not
merely special groups, to access. WCAG 1.0 claims that following the guidelines
will also make Web content more available to all users, whatever user agent
they use [e.g., desktop browser, voice browser, mobile phone and
automobile-based personal computer] or constraints they may be operating under
[noisy surroundings, under or over-illuminated rooms, in a hands-free
environment]. Following these guidelines will also help people find information
on the Web more quickly.

In December 2008, W3C announced a new set of standards, WCAG 2.0. It is more
broadly applicable to different technologies and has clearer criteria, and
tools available to tell if your design fits the mould. Apart from increasing
the font size, providing higher contrasts and incorporating text into voice
components on any site, there is the need to develop hardware (such as special
keyboards) and software with local customisation to benefit a large number of
disabled users and facilitate their employability.

 Hello,
I have Lekha and it's pretty good for Hindi. I don't know if it is free
 or
not. It never asks for license key or anything like that. Moreover, once
installed, it works with both Jaws and NVDA. I believe, it's free. Write
  to
me privately if you want me to upload it. If it is not free, please let
 me
 know.

 With Best regards,
 Amiyo Biswas.

Re: [AI] Banking again!

2010-01-30 Thread B. Kannan
The internet banking is very useful to us. I am using the net banking of SBI
and union bank of india. Both are very accessible with jaws. You can pay
your bills as well as third party money transfer with net banking. for
drawing checks you can use the cheque templates from NABDELHI website
developed by our friend Mr. Prashanth Verma.

thank you.

Dear Himanshu ji,

Thanks for your response and for sharing the guidelines.

Here is an update today that now my bank officials are not denying me the
facilities but they are saying that since they do not have propper
technology to scann the thumb impression, they don't know about how to
process the third party cheques. Can any one on the list who is using third
party cheques to pay his electricity bills etc. share his experience and
also a little note on the process that his bank has adapted to accomplish
this?

Thanks.
