Re: [AI] Query regarding Hindi typing with JAWS.
Hi, Here's the mail that was sent by Mr. Amiyo Biswas: If you install Hindi from XP cd, you can use Hindi Mangal font. It's the default font for XP Hindi. Here are the instructions for installing Hindi extracted from the Safa programme of NAB Delhi: 5.1 Installing complex script for Indian languages Step1: Go to Control Panel Regional and Language Options Languages tab and check Install files for complex script and right-to-left languages (including Thai) checkbox. This may require Windows OS Installation CD. Step 2: Follow the on screen instruction to let windows copy all the necessary files. 5.2 Extending support of advanced text services to all programs To use advanced text services in notepad and other applications that do not normally support them, you should change some language options. To do this follow the instructions given below. Step 1: Go to Regional and language Options section from control panel. Step 2: Go to Languages tab, then navigate and activate Details button. Step 3: In the resulting dialog box of Text Services and Input Languages Go to the Advanced tab. Step 4: Check Extend support of advanced text services to all programs check box. Step 5: Activate Apply, and close all control panel windows. 5.3 Enabling input for Indian languages After Indic language support has been added, the need is to enable input for Indian regional language. An example is given below to enable input for Hindi language. Same steps can be followed to enable input for other Indian regional languages. Step 1: Go to Control Panel Regional and Language Options Languages tab. Step 2: In the resulting dialog move to and activate Details button. Step 3: In the resulting dialog of Text Services and Input Languages move to and activate Add button. Step 4: In the resulting dialog of Add Input Language, select Hindi in Input language combo box. Step 5: Check Keyboard layout/IME check box and select Devanagari -INSCRIPT as input method in the next combo box. Step 6: Now tab to Ok button and activate the button, repeat the step to close all the control panel windows. 5.4 Adding keyboard for an input language After enabling support for an input language you can add keyboard layouts by following the steps given below: Step 1: Go to Control Panel Regional and Language Options Languages tab. Step 2: In the dialog box press enter on Details button. A new dialog box of Text Services and Input Languages will appear. Step 3: Press tab once to go to Installed services tree view and select the input language for which you want to add a keyboard layout. Step 4: Now press tab once to go to Add button and press enter to activate it. This will launch Add Input Language dialog box. Step 5: In the dialog, the input language combo box will have the input language which you selected in the previous step. If the language in this combo box is different then select your desired language. Step 6: Press tab once and make sure that the Keyboard layout/IME checkbox is checked. If not then check it by pressing space bar. Step 7: Now select the desired keyboard layout from the next combo box which you want to add for the selected input language. Step 8: Tab to Ok button and activate it. Repeat the step to close all open window of control panel. 5.5 Switching between different input languages and keyboard To switch between input languages use left Alt + left shift keys. To switch between keyboard for currently selected input language use Ctrl + Shift keys. [AI] Disability activists demand more say in drafting new Act
Disability activists demand more say in drafting new Act Staff Reporter “WE PROTEST”: Members of the Disabled Rights Group holding a candlelight vigil outside the residence of Union Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Mukul Wasnik in New Delhi on Saturday. NEW DELHI: Disability activists held a candlelight vigil outside the residence of Union Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Mukul Wasnik on Saturday demanding that more disabled people be made part of the committee for drafting the new disability Act. “After months of relentless advocacy by disabled rights organisations, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has finally embarked upon a historic task of drafting a new law to replace the outdated Disability Act, 1995. While it was much welcome news, the disability sector was equally astounded after having a look at the committee constituted by the Ministry to draft the new legislation. The committee of 27-odd members has only three persons with disabilities on it. There is no representation of the national organisations of disabled people,” said National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled convenor Javed Abidi. At a meeting with the Minister, disability rights groups had expressed dissatisfaction and anxiety among the disabled leaders across the country and provided a list of genuine and the most eligible experts from within the disability sector. However, the Minister nonchalantly dismissed the suggestion. As a result of rising discontent, nearly 50 top activists and disability leaders from across the country began deliberations on the issue on Saturday at a two-day conclave called to discuss the situation.
