Hello Sir, What you have mentioned about the age limit for the NET is this general provision or specially for blind and other disables? If it is specially for blind and other disables then what is the age limit for general? And if it is a general that means there is no any relaxation for us in the said entrance examination. Please make it more clear. Thanks in advance. No it does not apply to n82. It works with n86, n97 etc since they can have Nokia ovi maps which are different from nokia maps found on the earlier models. You have to buy the license for that model, but i would not bother since it is inaccesible anyway. Vetri. If you find that I am stating the obvious, then please stop reading. I have a Nokia N86, so the following all applies to this model. In the applications list, there is an application called 'Landmarks'. I start from here. Having opened 'Landmarks', in the options menu, there is an item called 'new landmark,. It has a submenu containing 3 things: current position, select from map and enter manually. You can enter your current position simply by pressing the selector key here and giving your current position a name. But a second, really useful thing you can do is to enter a position manually. When you select 'enter manually', you are presented with a dialogue box where you can enter various parameters. If you happen to know the postcode (or zip code) of the place you want to travel to, you're away. You can just enter this into the appropriate field, then give the landmark a name (because this is required), and then press 'done' with the right soft key. You then have that landmark in your landmarks list, but you haven't yet selected it from the map. Now make sure that you are on the landmark in the landmarks list and press left soft key to open the options menu again. This time select 'show on map'. This opens Nokia Maps. The first thing that the phone will say is that Bluetooth is switched off and ask if you want to switch it on. I select 'no' here as I use the phone's internal GPS receiver. The postcode you have entered for the landmark will now be spoken. Press the selector key and Nokia Maps will search for it. If you have searched on a postcode and it is successfully been found, there should only be one result. If you have searched on something else, there may be a list of results to choose from. Press the selector key on the result you want and you will find an accessible menu of 'walk to', 'drive to', 'show details' 'save place' 'add to route' and 'send'. At this point, if you select 'walk to' or 'drive to', you will get voice instructions from your present position to your selected destination, but you will have to go through the above process every time you want to make that journey again. So what I do is, having located my destination on the map, I choose 'save place' so that my landmark will now be saved with the map co-ordinates included in it. When you press the selector key on 'save place', the phone will say 'save as' and it may come up with a name based on what came up in the search. If I'm happy with this, I save the landmark with that name. Otherwise I give it a more meaningful name of my own, but always different from the name I gave to the original landmark. I then back out of Nokia Maps by pressing soft key 2 for as many times as necessary until the phone says 'landmarks'. I delete the original landmark as this did not contain the map co-ordinates and retain the one which I had searched for on the map and saved. This way, when I want to use the landmark again, all I have to do is fin
[AI] Fw: A Rare Chance to Influence Nokia
From: "Jonathan Mosen" To: Sent: Thursday, August 05, 2010 6:58 PM `All, the Nokia Ovi Blog is presently running a story about someone who is visually impaired using Ovi Maps. This person has enough vision to use his phone without any assistive technology, but the important thing is that it has drawn Nokia's attention to the fact that people with less than 20/20 vision can really benefit from ovi Maps. Marcus Grober from Nuance has already left a couple of great comments about the difference the Ovi team could make if they addressed some of the accessibility issues in the user interface. This would be a good time for us to submit respectful comments on this issue, while we have Nokia's attention. [AI] Dehradun gets ATM for visually challenged
Dehradun gets ATM for visually challenged August 05, 2010 17:58 IST India's second talking automated teller machine for the visually-challenged was installed in Dehradun, Uttarakhand [ Images ], to help them to perform their banking work independently. The machine, installed on the premises of National Institute for the Orthopedically Handicapped, works on the basis of fingerprint identification system and has customised keypads to make money transactions easier. "In this, they don't have to put in any password; it works on the basis of their fingerprints. The bank scans their fingerprints and on that basis they can withdraw money from ATM," said Pramod Khanna, manager of the Punjab National Bank [ Get Quote ]. Sajji Mathews, a visually-challenged person said that the newly set up audio-aided ATM would help in making such people independent. "This will benefit us in many ways. Now we can do our banking work independently. Earlier we used to need help of a sighted person to help us fill forms and submit the forms. The major problem that we would often face was that our signatures didn't match many times. This used to cause a lot of problem for us, but today we can withdraw money whenever we want," said Mathews. ICICI Bank [ Get Quote ] was the first one to set up the first automated teller machine for the visually impaired in Pune in August 2002. [AI] Magsaysay Award for Noman Khan's work in Bangladesh
A.H.M. Noman Khan who helped organise the Center that tackles the disability issue via community capacity has been selected for the award this year. http://www.propoor.org/news/?n=42079 Seven to receive 2010 Magsaysay Awards SEVEN INDIVIDUALS -- three from China, a couple from the Philippines and the others from Bangladesh and Japan -- were yesterday named the recipients of this year’s Ramon Magsaysay Awards. "The Magsaysay awardees of 2010," Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation (RMAF) President Carmencita T. Abella said in a statement, "are seven remarkable individuals deeply engaged in reinventing the future for a better Asia, tapping into and strengthening the power of community. " "Working on critical issues that impact not only their respective countries, but indeed, all of Asia, they are showing how commitment, competence, and collaborative leadership can truly transform individual lives and galvanize community action." The awardees are: Tadatoshi Akiba, a three-term mayor of Hiroshima who spearheaded the "Mayors for Peace" movement, launched in 1982, which seeks to mobilize the world’s mayors to mobilize citizens in an advocacy for world peace. The movement now has 4,069 member cities from 144 countries worldwide. Christopher Bernido and Ma. Victoria Carpio-Bernido, from the Philippines, whose work seeks to upgrade the state of education, particularly that for science, in the country. Both with doctorates in physics, they transformed a family-owned high school in Bohol by developing a cost-effective teaching strategy and also set up a project to address a nationwide shortage of physics teachers. Huo Daishan, a photographer and former journalist from China who is staging a crusade -- the RMAF citation points to his "selfless and unrelenting efforts, despite formidable odds" -- to save the country’s third largest river, the Huai, and the millions of people living along its banks. A.H.M. Noman Khan from Bangladesh who helped organize the Center for Disability in Development that tackles the disability issue via community capacity strengthening and "mainstreaming" -- making the matter an integral part of development work. Pan Yue and Fu Qiping, public servants coming from either end of the bureaucracy -- Mr. Pan is a vice-minister, Mr. Fu a village chief -- who are being recognized for their environmental work. Mr. Pan is being cited for initiatives such as "environmental protection storms" that led to the closures of polluting projects, while Mr. Fu is credited with transforming the village of Tengtou into one of China’s most prosperous. The Ramon Magsaysay Awards, established in 1957 in memory of the third Philippine president who died in a plane crash that year, are given annually to individuals or organizations in Asia said to "manifest the same sense of selfless service that ruled the life of the late and beloved Filipino leader." This year’s winners -- who will receive their awards on Aug. 31 -- will join 277 other laureates who to date have received Asia’s highest honor, often described as the region’s equivalent of the Nobel.
