[AI] Visually impaired Yasmeena singly supports her family

2011-12-22 Thread Shadab Husain
Visually impaired Yasmeena singly supports her family
By: SANA ALTAF

SRINAGAR, Dec 12: Yasmeena’s eyes have not seen the world since years
yet she can knit colourful woolens. She has no education but supports
her family comfortably. There is no one to care of her or look after
her, but Yasmeena has given many a smile to her family.
Despite being visually impaired for more than 25 years, Yasmeena
solely supports her old mother. Resident of Anantnag district,
Yasmeena has traveled all across Kashmir and also outside Kashmir.
“I never wanted to make my blindness my hurdle. I have overcome it and
don’t feel that I am not normal,” says Yasmeena, 38 year old.
Yasmeena was not born with blindness but developed some visual
disorders from childhood.
“I had 50 percent visual disorder and could not see properly. I went
through lot of treatment for it, but it didn’t help. My condition
worsened after my eye surgery failed,” said Yasmeena.
Yasmeena gradually lost her eyesight completely and was forced to
abandon her studies.
“I was not able to purse my studies beyond 8th standard.” All day
Yasmeena would sit home, idle.
“It frustrated me. I felt I am being a burden on my mother,” said Yasmeena
Yasmeena has not seen her father who passed away when she was 45 days
old. Yasmeena’s mother singly brought up her five children.
“We were all toddlers when my father passed away. My mother worked
hard to support us and get all my siblings married.”
But soon, Yasmeena’s two brothers also left the family, leaving
Yasmeena and her mother alone.
“Mother would do household work and I would sit all day,” Yasmeena adds.
Yasmeena took to knitting after her cousin gave the suggestion.
“My cousin asked me to start knitting only to pass time. So I tried
and started knitting small things for my nephew and niece,” says
Yasmeena.
For four years, Yasmeena continued her knitting for passing time.
“But one day I went to buy wool. There I came to know that hand
knitted woolens were also being sold. I asked the shopkeepers if he
would take my hand knit woolens, to which he agreed,” says Yasmeena.
To show her worth, Yasmeena would knit day and night to complete
woolens sweaters for infants.
“The shopkeeper was happy to see my work, though it had errors. He
started giving me orders, even though for one year I made mistakes in
designs.”
Yasmeena gradually gained consistency and overcome all her knitting
errors to perfection.
Today Yasmeena can knit woolens for adults and children of all colours
and designs.
“I am not dependant on anyone now. I earn more than Rs 2000 per month
which is enough to support my mother and me,” Yasmeena says.
She also sends gifts and hand made woolens to her nephews and niece
“They all love me a lot. I keep sending those gifts. It makes me
happy,” says Yasmeena, who i

Re: [AI] Accessible Currency (note coin) input

2011-12-22 Thread Srikanth Kanuri
hi, the coins should vary in size. as it used to be in the past the 2
Rupee coin should have a different shape on edges instead being round
few protrusions on the edges should help us identify easily. the 5
Rupee should be thicker, and 10 rupee should be thicker and bigger
than the 5 rupee coin. if thicker coin making is a costly afire and
cannot be implemented, having different edges for 2 5 and 10 coins
would be a good idea as it used to be in the case of 10p, 20p and Rs.
2 coins.
different types of embossing over the coins may be used which could be
identified by touch.

Subject: [AI] Accessible Currency (note coin) input

 Wednesday, December 21, 2011

 Dear all,

In continuation to my earlier Email regarding my meeting with RBI
 governor;
I did meet with General Manager Currency management and General Manager
 RBI,
Kolkata. Key highlights of the meeting is as follows:-Accessible currency
 note

 * Meeting regarding accessible note and coins were held earlier in
Mumbai and Subhash karnik , NAB representative , attended this meeting and
advised measures on how to make accessible notes.
 * Additional input which I gave and discussed that size variance of
not of Rs. 10, Rs. 100, Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 should be continued
 * Tactile shape in currency note should be located at more prominent
 location within the note.
 * Size of tactile features such as triangle, rectangle, square on
respective currency note of Rs. 500, Rs. 100, and Rs. 50, etc. should be
 enhanced.
 * Quality parameter of tactile durability should be superior in order
to stand various cycles of circulations, soil, etc.

 Accessible coin

 * There should be variation in size in Rs. 1 coin, Rs. 2 coin and
 50paise coin
 * Coins should stress more on feeling /touch rather than visual.
 * Thickness should also vary according to coins of different
 dimension.

I have informed RBI team about our access India 2000 blind/ visually
impaired who would be eager to provide more input on how to make our
currency accessible to blind/ visually impaired citizens of our country.
May I request you to kindly offer input on this crucial matter by Monday
December 26, 2011 and I will consolidate all input and forward it to RBI
team. RBI governor along with his currency team are determined to design
accessible solution and they hope to implement this solution early next
year. Guys, sincere appeal to you all for grabbing this opportunity to
 have

Subject: Excel Tutorials Drop Boxed

Hello Members,

Sharing with you all tutorials in the audio format for Microsoft Excel. These
tutorials were shared with me by another member on the list. Unfortunately, I
did not get much time with them and I cannot suggest or opinionate on how much
they will assist you in learning the application. Another thing I noticed is
that these tutorials were recorded somewhere in 1998 and think they address
Excel 2003. Those of you who use Excel 2007 and higher are aware of the ribbon
concept and also realise that JAWS 12 and above have an added feature called
the virtual ribbons for all the Microsoft Applications. For those who are using
Office 2007 and above with JAWS 12 and above to enable virtual ribbons press
the insert and v key to bring up the application settings dialog box and scroll
to where it says virtual ribbons and press the spacebar to turn it on. Remember
to do this on a Microsoft Application either word or excel.

A word about Virtual Ribbons:

This setting applies to applications where ribbons are present instead of the
classic menu bar and menus.
When on, the virtual ribbon menu provides an alternative representation of the
Microsoft Ribbon to present a predictable navigation experience.
The upper ribbon contains ribbon tabs, similar to a classic menu bar containing
menus.
Left and right arrows move through the tabs on the upper ribbon.
Arrowing down from an Upper Ribbon tab moves to a lower ribbon, similar to
navigating to a classic menu.

Download these tutorials from the link below, credits go to Mr.Ashik Hirani:

Subject: [AI] MicroSystem acupuncture, does it really help in eye diseases?

 Dear all,

Please read the below discription and share the experiences if anyone has
 gone through this eye treatment:

MicroSystem acupuncture is the unique synergy of three different treatment

modalities for treatment of vision loss due to a large number of eye
disorders. In MicroSystem treatment, acupuncture, colour therapy and
acupressure are combined to give optimum and often dramatic results.

In MicroSystem acupuncture, the acupuncture points are not part of any
conventional acupuncture. Special ultra fine single use disposable colour
radiated needles are used. In this procedure needles are placed in the
hands and feet only. No needles are placed anywhere near the eyes. Even
young children accept the needles comfortably. The focus of treatment is
directed to the area of the eyes, optic nerve and brain. There is evidence

that this form of acupuncture actually helps to rebuild the tissue in the
eyes, helping to restore the integrity of the retina.

Along with the acupuncture treatment, each patient is taught self
acupressure. This acupressure regime helps to further enhance the vision
improvement achieved by acupuncture and helps stabilize the underlying
disease. Regular self acupressure by the patient also helps to preserve
the vision improvement gained through the MicroSystem acupuncture
 treatment.

MicroSystem acupuncture treatment is completely safe and has no side
 effects

Vision related disorders treated by MicroSystem acupuncture include:
Retinitis Pigmentosa, Macular Degeneration, Stargardt's macular dystrophy,

Glaucoma, Diabetic Retinopathy, Retinal Detachment, Presbyopia,
Keratoconus and many other retinal dystrophies such as Leber's Congenital
Amaurosis, Rod and Cone Dystrophy and Ushers Syndrome.

 RESULTS

After undergoing MicroSystem acupuncture treatment, patients show
improvement in near and distant vision, visual field, night vision and
colour vision. The typical treatment is for 8 days, but vision improvement

is seen within 1 or 2 days. Clinical experience is that over 90% of
patients treated show an improvement in their vision. In the remaining 10%

the vision loss due to disease may be halted or stabilised, which in
 itself is a significant achievement.

Over 1,000 patients from India, UK, Canada, Australia, South Africa,
Nigeria, Kenya, Cyprus, UAE, Lebanon, Iraq, Syria, Pakistan, Malaysia,
Bangladesh, Nepal, Thailand, Bahamas, Greece, Indonesia and Zimbabwe have
 benefited from this treatment.

Re: [AI] free e books

2011-12-22 Thread Shadab Husain
Hi Jeega,

All the books till the Victorian Age are available at
www.gutenberg.org. Many books of modern age are available there as
well. Click online catalogue and browse either by the author’s surname
or by book title.

Cambridge history of English literature is available at
www.bartleby.com/Cambridge/. The language employed by the writers in
this history is pretty rich, so if the exams are on the head, one may
consider cramming up from cheap class notes available in the market.

At www.bartleby.com, you can also find the criticism on the writers
belonging to the modern age.

Glossary of literary terms at www.thefreedictionary.com.

For Indian writing in English literature little is on the web; you
have no other option but to have the books scanned and edited. If
other members can suggest or provide the material, it would be good.

If you need linguistics notes or website navigation help, do contact

2011-12-22 Thread Asudani, Rajesh
Well said Vamshi.
He must have not only tolerated her errors, but must have realistically but
helpfully pointed out them to her, that's why she could perfect them.
So, the tolerant but realistically oriented nurturing approach is called for.
Well, it's a rarity in employers to say the least.
In our recently held meeting with RD of RBI Nagpur, I was flabbergasted to hear
Umpteenth time from her lips that some disabled, by which she meant
orthopedically employees having about 40 to 60% disability, are performing so
well that we don't ever feel they are disabled.
Now this in organization where I am still struggling to carve out a niche by
finding the suitable work profile which I may perform entirely in soft copy.
I think if somebody does not feel that a person is disabled, that is not the
triumph for the disabled, but is the result of either avoiding disability, as
one can get by and perform in the existing infrastructure, sometimes by unduly
straining oneself, and sometimes because the disability is not significant
enough to impede the functioning.
I witness such examples when our so-called blind employees in various sectors

Disability should be relevantly figured in.

SRINAGAR, Dec 12: Yasmeena's eyes have not seen the world since years
yet she can knit colourful woolens.
I never wanted to make my blindness my hurdle. I have overcome it and
don't feel that I am not normal, says Yasmeena, 38 year old.
Yasmeena was not born with blindness but developed some visual
 disorders from childhood.
I had 50 percent visual disorder and could not see properly. I went
through lot of treatment for it, but it didn't help. My condition
worsened after my eye surgery failed, said Yasmeena.
Yasmeena gradually lost her eyesight completely and was forced to
 abandon her studies.
I was not able to purse my studies beyond 8th standard. All day
 Yasmeena would sit home, idle.
It frustrated me. I felt I am being a burden on my mother, said Yasmeena
Yasmeena has not seen her father who passed away when she was 45 days
old. Yasmeena's mother singly brought up her five children.
We were all toddlers when my father passed away. My mother worked
hard to support us and get all my siblings married.
But soon, Yasmeena's two brothers also left the family, leaving
 Yasmeena and her mother alone.
Mother would do household work and I would sit all day, Yasmeena adds.
Yasmeena took to knitting after her cousin gave the suggestion.
My cousin asked me to start knitting only to pass time. So I tried
and started knitting small things for my nephew and niece, says
 Yasmeena.
For four years, Yasmeena continued her knitting for passing time.
But one day I went to buy wool. There I came to know that hand
knitted woolens were also being sold. I asked the shopkeepers if he
would take my hand knit woolens, to which he agreed, says Yasmeena.
To show her worth, Yasmeena would knit day and night to complete
 woolens sweaters for infants.
The shopkeeper was happy to see my work, though it had errors. He
started giving me orders, even though for one year I made mistakes in
 designs.
Yasmeena gradually gained consistency and overcome all her knitting
 errors to perfection.
Today Yasmeena can knit woolens for adults and children of all colours
 and designs.
I am not dependant on anyone now. I earn more than Rs 2000 per month
which is enough to support my mother and me, Yasmeena says.
She also sends gifts and hand made woolens to her nephews and niece
They all love me a lot. I keep sending those gifts. It makes me
 happy, says Yasmeena, who i

Yes, disability has to be accepted, wholeheartedly. Only then, one
will be able to come out with constructive means to overcome it.
Further, there is no greater asset in a visually impaired person's

Assistive devices have their own limitations.

SRINAGAR, Dec 12: Yasmeena's eyes have not seen the world since years
yet she can knit colourful woolens.
I felt I am being a burden on my mother, said
 Yasmeena
Today Yasmeena can knit woolens for

Hi Ekinath,

I had used it. It is really good but Talks does not read the incoming
message. You have to copy paste the received message to some other place
like a blank SMS message or notes to read the message. This makes us slow
in responding when chatting.

Thanks.
