Re: [AI] how to remove an input language from windows 7
Go to control panel. Choose region and language. Here the third tab is keyboard and language. In this tab the first option is install and uninstall keyboards and languages. Choose change keyboard option. Different available keyboards would display in the list. Select one of them. Press tab key. There are add button as well as remove button for the selected keyboard. Re: [AI] How to Manage Power Point presentation
I am not using any remote devices. So cannot tell about them. However, if you do not know braille, just use a small note book, which can be accommodated on the podium. Connect it with the projecter and change the slides by yourself. In this case, there are all the chances that your concentration is split into two different assignments - presentation and changing the slides. However, practice the same once or twice and the problem can be resolved. But sometimes, the jaws voice gets leaked into the public address system. That is why, I do not change the slides myself. Re: [AI] how to remove an input language from windows 7
Hi, The removing process is the same as I had suggested and you had followed. In the dialog box, the remove button may not appear in two cases. 1. if the proper layout to be removed is not selected. 2. If the selected layout to be removed is in default mode. As I guess, the second case seems a very less possible. Hence, the first case may be the reason of hide of remove button. It appears exactly in the same dialog box with add or property button appear! Be sure the selection of the layout and it is checked. Use up/down arrow for shifting the different layout and the right/left arrow keys for expanding the tree. If the problem persists, let you inform. I will suggest another but bit a complex method. On 4/15/15, Vedprakash vedprakash.sha...@gmail.com wrote: Go to control panel. Choose region and language. Re: [AI] Special education paper compulsory in BEd, MEd from upcoming academic session
Friends, I too was the member of B.Ed. syllabus revision committee and actively involved in preparing the syllabus for inclusive education for Mumbai University. In Mumbai university it is going to be a compulsory paper and it is named as Creating Inclusive class-rooms. We will focus mainly along with other things on the strategies for creating inclusive environment in schools and class-rooms. But doing this we will also broaden the scope of inclusion not delimiting it only to children with special educational needs but inclusive of even socially and economically disadvantaged children. - Original Message - From: Ritesh Tomer riteshto...@gmail.com To: AccessIndia: a list for discussing accessibility and issues concerningthe disabled. accessindia@accessindia.org.in Sent: Tuesday, April 14, 2015 11:36 PM Subject: Re: [AI] Special education paper compulsory in BEd, MEd from upcoming academic session They have provided only the structure of two year programme and the included courses so far. The decision followed a countrywide survey last year that showed that nearly six lakh physically or mentally challenged children between six and 13 didn't go to school. The NCTE last week signed an agreement with the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI), which has been regulating courses on special education, to help prepare the curriculum and modules for the compulsory paper that would be part of the general BEd and MEd courses. The BEd and MEd courses did not have any compulsory paper on how to teach special children. This year we have incorporated four compulsory papers and one of them is on special education, NCTE chairperson Santosh Panda told The Telegraph. While the NCTE regulates general BEd and MEd courses, the RCI is the controlling authority for courses on teaching people with disabilities. Panda said the RCI has agreed to increase the duration of BEd and MEd courses on special education from one year to two years from the 2015-16 academic session starting in July-August to align with the NCTE pattern. In January this year, the NCTE had decided to switch to a two-year format. The RCI has also agreed to train at least one teacher from all the 17,000 BEd and MEd colleges across the country in special education. According to the National Sample Survey of Estimation - conducted by the NGO Social and Rural Research Institute in collaboration with the PSU Educational Consultants India Ltd in 2014 - some 60.41 lakh children in the 6-13 age group

[AI] FW: [The vOICe] Man with restored sight provides new insight into how vision develops
Some of you may find the below paper of interest. -Original Message- From: seeingwithsound-bou...@freelists.org [mailto:seeingwithsound-bou...@freelists.org] On Behalf Of Peter Meijer Sent: Thursday, April 16, 2015 12:27 AM To: seeingwithso...@freelists.org Subject: [The vOICe] Man with restored sight provides new insight into how vision develops Hi All, For your information. Appended is today's news release from the University of Washington, about Mike May. Best wishes, Peter Meijer Seeing with Sound - The vOICe http://www.seeingwithsound.com/winvoice.htm Man with restored sight provides new insight into how vision develops. By Deborah Bach, News and Information. California man Mike May made international headlines in 2000 when his sight was restored by a pioneering stem cell procedure after 40 years of blindness. But a study published three years after the operation found that the then-49-year-old could see colors, motion and some simple two-dimensional shapes, but was incapable of more complex visual processing. Hoping May might eventually regain those visual skills, University of Washington researchers and colleagues retested him a decade later. But in a paper now available online in Psychological Science, they report that May — referred to in the study as M.M. — continues to perform significantly worse than sighted control group participants. The conclusion: May’s vision remains very limited 15 years after the surgeries. Though disappointing, the results provide valuable information that can help researchers better understand how vision develops and which visual processing tasks are most vulnerable to sight deprivation. “With sight-restoration procedures becoming more developed, we’re going to see more and more cases where people are blind for long periods of time and then get their sight back,” said senior author Ione Fine, a UW associate professor of psychology. “But we know very little about what happens in their brains during that period. That is going to be one of the fundamental questions going forward — what happens when the lights are turned off, and what happens when you turn them back on?” May went blind at age 3 when a jar of chemicals exploded in his face. He went on to work for the CIA and became a successful entrepreneur, founding the Sendero Group, a company that makes GPS and talking-map products for blind people. May is also a motivational speaker and holds the world downhill skiing speed record, 65 mph, for a completely blind person. But fully restored sight has eluded May, and his unusual case has puzzled researchers. There were few previous cases of restored vision before his — the last well-documented one was in 1963 — and scientists knew little about whether people whose sight is restored as adults can regain functional vision, and if so, how long that might take. In the recent tests, May was shown images of household objects and faces, and also video clips while his brain responses were measured with fMRI (functional magnetic resonance imaging). As with the tests a decade earlier, May did not have normal brain responses to three-dimensional objects or faces, consistent with his inability to make sense of these stimuli. Researchers believe that’s because May’s brain, like those of other people who went blind at an early age, has adjusted to respond to other stimuli, such as sound or touch. “We suspect that Mike lost vision at an age when these brain regions were able to take on new roles,” said joint first author Jason Webster. “It remains to be seen what these areas are doing now.” May’s case is particularly interesting, Fine said, because his blindness started when the visual system is already developed, but the ability to perceive objects and faces is still evolving. “He lost his vision at an age when vision is pretty good, but he was still young enough for it to deteriorate,” she said. The findings, the researchers say, indicate that visual function for tasks such as object recognition and face processing continues to develop through childhood and early adolescence and remains sensitive to loss of sight for several years afterward. The good news, said joint first author and UW graduate student Elizabeth Huber, is that the findings imply that adults’ vision is relatively fixed, meaning that as visual losses increase in an aging population, the chances of restoring useful sight to older people are good. “This study is encouraging because it suggests that if someone loses sight later in life, it may still be possible to restore relatively normal vision, even after many years of blindness,” she said. May told the researchers he uses his other senses to compensate for his poor vision. “I have learned what works with vision and what doesn’t, so I really don’t challenge my vision much anymore,” he said in the paper. “Where motion or colors might be clues, I use my vision. Where details might be required, like reading print or recognizing who

Re: [AI] SBI PO recruitment 2015
Rajesh, I just checked the Job Identification list of 2013 uploaded on the CCPD website. Sadly it doesn't show the post of PO to be identified for those with Hearing Impairments. This is extremely funny. More so when IBPS reserves the post of PO for the deaf partially deaf candidates for the exam it conducts for over 17 Public Sector Banks UPSC reserves the prestigious Civil Services for the deaf. Why should SBI be above the rest and why should the indicative list of identified posts and not the abilities of the competent deaf candidate dictate us what persons with disabilities can do ? I have been approached by a Probationary Officer with a nationalised bank with 70% Hearing Impairment who want to shift to SBI for better job prospects. However, The DGM CRPD from the SBI says he is not eligible to even apply for the current recruitment! On 16 April 2015 at 10:01, Asudani, Rajesh rajeshasud...@rbi.org.in wrote: Yes, it is. But in a paper now available online in Psychological Science, they report that May -- referred to in the study as M.M. -- continues to perform significantly worse than sighted control group participants. The conclusion: May's vision remains very limited 15 years after the surgeries. Though disappointing, the results provide valuable information that can help researchers better understand how vision develops and which visual processing tasks are most vulnerable to sight deprivation. With sight-restoration procedures becoming more developed, we're going to see more and more cases where people are blind for long periods of time and then get their sight back, said senior author Ione Fine, a UW associate professor of psychology. But we know very little about what happens in their brains during that period. That is going to be one of the fundamental questions going forward -- what happens when the lights are turned off, and what happens when you turn them back on? May went blind at age 3 when a jar of chemicals exploded in his face. There were few previous cases of restored vision before his -- the last well-documented one was in 1963 -- and scientists knew little about whether people whose sight is restored as adults can regain functional vision, and if so, how long that might take. Researchers believe that's because May's brain, like those of other people who went blind at an early age, has adjusted to respond to other stimuli, such as sound or touch. We suspect that Mike lost vision at an age when these brain regions were able to take on new roles, said joint first author Jason Webster. It remains to be seen what these areas are doing now. May's case is particularly interesting, Fine said, because his blindness started when the visual system is already developed, but the ability to perceive objects and faces is still evolving. He lost his vision at an age when vision is pretty good, but he was still young enough for it to deteriorate, she said. The findings, the researchers say, indicate that visual function for tasks such as object recognition and face processing continues to develop through childhood and early adolescence and remains sensitive to loss of sight for several years afterward. The good news, said joint first author and UW graduate student Elizabeth Huber, is that the findings imply that adults' vision is relatively fixed, meaning that as visual losses increase in an aging population, the chances of restoring useful sight to older people are good. This study is encouraging because it suggests that if someone loses sight later in life, it may still be possible to restore relatively normal vision, even after many years of blindness, she said.
