Re: [AI] Free scanner and OCR app for iOS and Android

2015-08-17 Thread Rajneesh Gosain
Something similar like this for I phone.

Voice - Take Pictures & Have Them Read/Spoken In Many Languages with Fast OCR \

Description
Take a picture of anything that has words on it, and Voice will read
it to you! Designed for iOS 8, this simple and easy to use interface
will let you listen to all your books/words/documents/magazines in a
matter of seconds.

Running late for work? Just snap a photo of a newspaper article, put
on your headphones, and let Voice do the reading for you while you
drive peacefully without grieving over not being able to read the news
for today.

People with visual impairment or dyslexia can easily snap a photo of
anything and have it read in a matter of seconds. Whether it is a menu
at a restaurant, a medicine label, and expiration date on a milk
carton, or even an information board at a museum.

Foreign exchange students can read and listen to an english book at
the same time using this app. Thus, listening to pronunciation and
following along, word-by-word.

Key Features:
- Book mode – reads multiple pictures or pages one after another but
it takes the same processing time as it does for a single picture. As
the initial image is being read, the next image is being processed in
the background, and so on... therefore it does not use additional
processing time.
- Multiple languages – Reads/Detects in over 30 different languages
- Field of view report – says when all 4 corners of the document are visible
- Auto capture photos without any user interaction.
- Precise document area boundaries detection for better recognition
- Smart Crop – offers the possibility to estimate the quality of the
document area boundary detection and make a decision about cropping
(to improve processing time).
- Two-dimensional geometric and three-dimensional perspective
distortion correction (for better OCR).
- Improved accessibility and made fully compatible with VoiceOver
- Document image auto alignment and rotation.
- Brightness and contrast equalization.
- Document background cleaning.
- Special presets for producing grayscale and color documents
optimized for legibility.
- Vertical and horizontal column detection and smart column-based
reading- ex: newspapers
- Ability to export text/images to third party service such as
Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, Email, and many more!
- Comparable OCR results to other expensive paid services
- Smaller install size than most other services
- Changeable speaking rate – Three speeds that you can choose from,
modifiable in Settings.

Some Tips:
- Does NOT work with handwritten text
- Make sure your phone isn't on silent and your volume is all the way
up (or enough for you to hear the voice).
- Sharp images with even lighting and clear contrasts will work best.
Motion blur or bad camera focus will decrease the quality of the
detected text.
- Keep the images straight, if the photo is slanted or if the object
in the image is curved, it may effect the quality of the text.
- This app works only when connected to the internet.

What's New in Version 3.3
This Version:
- Now Voice can detect and read in over 30 languages!
- Most, if not all, of the VoiceOver incompatibilities have been fixed
(including the annoying introduction at the beginning). So, Voice is
fully compatible with VoiceOver!
- Export your detected text! You can now export it as a pdf, png, or
txt file, and you can send it to Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive,
Email, and many more!
- Improved field of view report and document detection.
- iPhone also vibrates when four corners are detected.
- Picking photos from iPhone photo library now is compatible with VoiceOver.
- Made OCR processing faster.
- Better automatic photo capture.
- New bug spray invented to squash millions of bugs.
- Other various improvements.

The app will work on I phone 5 and above.

New version of ecourt is accessible. It is yet to launch. You have to
wait for few more days. Old website has several issues specially PDF
documents which are uploaded by untrained IT professionals working in
courts. I have suggested to NIC Pune that every document should be
checked for accessibility and then they should be uploaded on web.

[AI] BGFI Trek experience in very breif

2015-08-17 Thread Ekinath Khedekar
Dear Friends,

Taking couple of minutes off from my work to share a saddening
assumable trend I saw during BGFI’s trek expedition with Young
Zingaros group.

Both organisations had organised a trek to Prabalgad on 15th August
2015. I was disappointed to see only 2 totally and 2 partially blind
trekkers amongst 44 in all. I just hope that it is on account of word
of the trek not reaching too many.

But I enjoyed it thoroughly- the gruelling climb, the rains, the
heights, the rocks and mud too. Legs are aching a bit, feeling very
light though.

I always grab such opportunities where a helping hand can help us
enjoy the beauty of mother nature. More you can learn if you Google it
up for ‘prabalgad’.

I hope more Vis join in for such excursions in future.

Cheers

[AI] Daily Eyeway Alerts

2015-08-17 Thread Eyeway Helpdesk
Dear All:

Greetings from the Eyeway Helpdesk!
Follow below the Daily Eyeway Alerts:

1. News-

South Korean startup has developed an affordable Braille smartwatch which
allows the visually impaired to receive and read text messages in real time
and even read e-books.The wearable, named Dot, relays the time with a set
of pins that rise and fall. Users will be able to receive and read text
messages in real time, read e-books and even learn Braille. When it comes
to watches for the visually impaired, there are not many devices that use
real-time Braille text and the ones that do typically cost thousands of
dollars. The company plans to launch the device in the US initially for a
price below USD 300. More at

After a wait of at least two decades, a group of visually-impaired persons
led by Anil Khurana has won half the battle for a residential accommodation
at a plot which was sanctioned to the Poona Blind Men’s Association (PBMA)
in Hadapsar. Anil Khurana had alleged that two hectares in Sector 93/2 in
Mauje Mohammadwadi had been awarded to the PBMA for a primary health centre
and a residential home for the blind, but the plot housed a hospital only. The
local administration has agreed that the land which was sanctioned for a
primary health centre and a residential home for the blind, did not have
the latter. “According to the details shared by both the parties and the
report submitted by the sub divisional officer, there has been a violation
of land use as there is no residential home in the plot as planned when the
land was allotted. We have forwarded the matter to the state government
through the Pune divisional commissioner. The government will hear both the
parties again and if there has been a violation, necessary action will be
initiated,’’ said Pune district collector Saurabh Rao. More at

In A world where children shy away from maths, 15-year-old Bhavya Shah

Shah is visually impaired and there are few tools in the city that can help
teachers teach numbers to students like him. However, now, the National
Association for Blind (NAB), in association with Mission for Vision

mathematics to the visually impaired. What this programme will also do is
make visually impaired candidates eligible to appear for competitive exams

[AI] Info needed on google drive software.

2015-08-17 Thread Balaraman

Dear all,
I installed google drive in my PC with windows7 and started using it.
It will be of much help if you can answer the following questions.
1. Can we change the location of the google drive folder?
As of now, it is in C drive and I don't wish to place any extra folder
in the system folder.
Though I went to the preferences, I couldn't find any option to change
the location.

2. Is google drive like drop box?
I mean, is it easy like drop box to share files.
3. Is there an off line installer for google drive?

Thanks in advance,

P. Balaraman.

will let you listen to all your books/words/documents/magazines in a
matter of seconds.

Re: [AI] Announcing BrailleSpark: the freedom of Brailler!

2015-08-17 Thread Amiyo Biswas
I put these questions at the comments section. but I thought it better to
put the questions here.

First, your link to the dotnet framework 4 is not working.

Second, can we use it for typing Bengali? How much is it likely to cost?

Personally, I prefer using the normal keyboard layout as much as possible so
that I can use anybody's computer anywhere.

With best regards,
Amiyo Biswas

BrailleSpark® Introduction

BrailleSpark® is an excellent and industry leading tool which gives
you the freedom of the brailler on your laptop/desktop keyboards.

Yes, BrailleSpark® allows you to type on your laptop/desktop keyboards
with six fingers, just like a brailler. Put your fingers on the
keyboard, and start your
computerized, digital and intelligent brailler with your six fingers!

BrailleSpark® supports both Roman and Devanagari scripts. It takes
Braille input and displays it's output in normal printed text which
can be easily read
by your preferred screen reader/speech synthesizer. With BrailleSpark®
you can extensively type Hindi, Sanskrit, English and many more
Devanagari/Roman
supported languages only with your six fingers and it is also Unicode
compliant.

BrailleSpark® has an intelligent logical engine which automatically
manages the complicated routines of Hindi language such as diacritics
ETC.
Unlike other tools which use outdated and obsolete APIs and keyboard
hooking mechanisms, BrailleSpark® uses it's own, up to date and
blazing fast APIs
which gives you true typing experience. These APIs are being
maintained and developed regularly by us. BrailleSpark® supports all
popular screen readers
such as JAWS, NVDA and Window Eyes. Easy keyboard shortcuts,
intelligent language support, low memory footprint, all leading screen
readers' support and
blazing fast input makes it easy to use, feature rich and user friendly.

BrailleSpark® not only lets you type Roman and Devanagari scripts, but
it also gives you a comprehensive and powerful player named
"SparkPlayer" by which
you can simultaneously listen and type your audio books/files. It's a
global player, means you can seamlessly do your work and manage it's
operation from
any application. There is no need to switch the player window, all
shortcut keys will work from any application with the exception of
internet browsers.

SparkPlayer features global shortcut keys, Play/Pause, Speed
Management, Forward/Rewind, Volume Management etc.

All and All BrailleSpark® may be very useful for students, frequent
typers, (Hindi), government employees, (who require heavy typing at
their workplace)
and teachers etc.
It's a dream come true of Braille literate visually impaireds!
