[AI] A WRITE UP ON THE SITUATIONS OF THE PERSON WITH DISABILITIES IN THE STATE OF RAJASTHAN.

2015-10-18 Thread sharad tripathi
Dear all,
Blind government for the blind people
Boasting leaders and shouting slogans of the government are not only
lull for the deaf people infact voice sensitive blind people are
feeling frustrated and irritated with the discriminatory bureaucracy
and slumbering leaders in their palaces.
Government of Rajasthan has not fulltime commissioner who has
responsibility of protection to person with disabilities as per the
section 60 of the act of 1995 for the protection and equal opportunity
of person with disabilities in the nation. In the state of Rajasthan
the 1.8 million population of disabled seem to be left on the mercy of
god. State has not any public sector Braille press for the blind;
contrary to this central minister for finance has declared the budget
for the same in 2014-2015 loudly. Similarly the chief minister has
declared the budget for the purpose of making public building
accessible for the person with disabilities this year only; but the
lower and local government seem to be unaware and innocent about all
those provisions and determined to make it a mockery. Therefore I am
confirmed now it is all a dual face of right wing governments which
shows and says that we can give effective governance but it is fake
and cruel joke with most vulnerable section of the society.
As from last year even after the court of commissioner (part time)
orders to various government departments of Rajasthan but it is a
specifically anyideal and slow trail of red tape for person with
disabilities. If a disabled activist decides to pericipate or get
accessible a under construction building then he or she has to take up
a lot of pain.
Recently a public library in jaipur at tonk phatak taken a whole lot
of year of mine where regular follow up with the department could not
be possible for severely disabled person ;there is no any effective
or strong window or powerful platform where we can raise or put up our
complaint this example showing its capabilities lower than person
with disabilities.
Height of the insensitivity is clear by a example of newly constructed
building of directorate of specially abled persons in Jaipur has not a
accessible toilet for wheel chair users and continuous reminders and
protest not able to make impact over irresponsible government; however
the hnble minister has declared to make hundred public buildings
accessible for person with disabilities in coming year but still I am
not able to fetch the list of those so called hundred buildings of the
state.
The various schemes designed by the government; for the welfare of
the disabled persons is discriminatory and seem to be ineffective in
empowerment of this community. For example in scholarship scheme for
PWD’s family income bar for person with disabilities is rupees
hundred thousand whereas it is two hundred and fifty thousand for the
SC’s ST’s in the state; similarly for the promotion of marriages with
person with disabilities fetch only twenty five thousand rupees to a
family where as scheme for SC’s and ST’s provides for five lack rupees
to a married couple; this situation is when more than fifty percent of
disabled are not married and deprived of their basic physical need of
sex for their life time..
This is literally inhumane and compels to think over the tragic
situations of person with disabilities.
The narrow vision of the governments is visible by a scheme where the
locomotor affected persons are getting tricycles on irregular basis
but there is no scheme for person with visual impairment in the state
where they can be supplemented to their efficiency with a expensive
screen reader software. They are in the situation when they are not
having their representation in legislative assembly and abled body
decides their fate.
This trouble some experience does not stops here and similar hard some
situations extends to steps of judiciary as well where long waiting
representation to honorable chief justice is still awaiting for
justice which demands early or priority disposal of cases pending
related to disabled petitioners; this is complimented with inaccessible
high court building for disabled litigants.
Therefore these situations compel we disabled to enter into electoral
politics and mobilize their community of disabled somewhere about ten
percent of total population of the nation; and this motivation or
strategy is formulated with experiences and success stories of
struggles of women or sc’s and st’s.

Re: [AI] kurzweil versus Abby find reader?

2015-10-18 Thread mukesh jain
Hello,
Its really dificult to make comparison between these two programs as
both has it’s own specialities. On one hand, Kurzweil is especially
developed for the persons with visually impaired persons having the
speech recognition inbuilt with many integrated features like volume,
pitch, speed controls etc hence, the cost of these features of course,
makes the software more expensive. On the other hand, abby fine reader
is designed for the persons requiring the scanned documents to be
converted in to editable format. It does not have any special features
like voice recognition, special zoom features, support to download the
books from the library dedicated for the blind users like bookshare,
gootenburg etc so you need to have any efficient screen reader in
combination to make this software accessible.

If you make a choice to purchase any OCR software especially suited
for the blind users, I would suggest you to look at the products like
lex or readit offered by visionaid international, U.K. considering
the price factor and features comparison between kurzweil and lex, lex
certinly stands all most equal with kurzweil offering you in much
lesser price.

Recently, I have used this product and found it much better in terms
of price if you are thinking to purchase the special OCR dedicated for
the blind offering the aforesaid ibbuilt features.

Hope this helps.

[AI] Stand up and be counted; VIBEWA survey

2015-10-18 Thread Vamshi. G
Dear friends,

You are aware that VIBEWA is conducting a survey to capture the
present status of visually impaired in the banking sector. The survey
is nearing a month, and the response is satisfactory with more than300
members filling out the form. I extend wholehearted gratitude to all
those (including me) who have participated in the survey.

Let me tell you that it was not easy to get this many respondents to
participate. VIBEWA's EC team and a group of volunteers have worked
hard to bring it to this level.

What now?

As I said, 300 is a good number in a month's time. But is it going to
be sufficient? This survey is not to publish a paper in research
journal where we give some justification for the sample size. We are
looking to take the results of the survey to the the concerned
authorities, appraise them of the present status, and press for the
change required. I do not think we can present a case with 300
responses. moreoever there are some banks from whom the response rate
has been very low which deprives us of the proper representativeness.

Banks with low response rate
Allahabad bank, central bank of India, deena bank, UCO bank, Bank of
maharashtra, corporation bank, IDBI bank.

One final strech

I appeal to all those concerned with the survey to take ten minutes of
time and fill it out. There are few opportunities to make us heard
of, and here is a first of such kind of opportunity. Please
strengthen VIBEWA by providing your valuable response to the questions
in the survey.

What else?

As a great man said, walk alone if you want to move faster, and walk
together if you want to move longer. I'm sure most of you would agree
with me if I say that the ideal synario for visually impaired in
banking is a long way ahead. The only way we can get there is to take
as many people as possible along with us in the way ahead.

If each one who has filled out the form so far can make one more his
friend to do the same, we can double the number in the remaining time
of the survey. Can we all take out another ten minutes and do it?

Friends, VIBEWA has been doing its best in forming an association,
funding for the activities like web site, now the survey, filing RTIs,
etc. Its the membership that has been the biggest strength of the
organisation. We need to rally around in large numbers to make our
voice heard to those concerned.

Please fill out the survey form, for yourself, and your friends at

http://www.vibewa.org/vibewa-task-force-survey/

Stand up and be counted!

To: nvda-add...@freelists.org, nvda-addons-comm...@freelists.org

Hi ladies and gentlemen:
The NVDA community add-ons team is delighted to announce the release of
October 2015 quarterly updates. This quarterly update is quite unusual in
that it is divided into two parts. The first batch of add-on updates,
containing mostly localization updates, will go live in about half an hour.
Part 2, containing new add-ons, will be released on October 20th (21st for
some).

The first batch contains:
* Clip Contents Designer 3.3
* Emoticons 4.2
* eMule 2.7 and 2.8-dev (development version)
* Goldwave 3.2
*Place markers 6.1
* Resource Monitor 4.2

Part 2 will consist of:
* Day of the week 1.0 (Abdel)
* VLC 1.0 (Javi Dominguez)
* Rapid settings 2.0 (Alberto, ideal implementation of NVDA Core ticket
577), now graduated to stable branch
* Columns review 2.0 (Alberto, includes my UIA branch), graduated to stable
status.

For translators: We'll get the VLC and Day of the week (and other add-ons)
ready for delivery to you in a few days.
Thank you.
Cheers,
Joseph

Good effort. its always better to be in dialog with them at the
development stage. You can give them w3c accessibility guidelines.
You can find a checklist for ensuring accessibility in the same. Just
google around, you'll find it.

[AI] Fwd: [nvda-addons] Fall/spring 2015 quarterly update: check-ins have begun, process explained, new and changed add-ons

Subject: [nvda-addons] Fall/spring 2015 quarterly update: check-ins
have begun, process explained, new and changed add-ons
To: nvda-add...@freelists.org

Hi all,

Those of you who are following add-on commits list will notice an increase
in activity this weekend as I start the check-in process for fall/spring
2015 add-on update cycle. Because we've got some major new add-on releases,
I've decided to divide this process into two phases:

.October 17: Maintenance and localization updates will go live.

.October 20 (21st for some of you): New add-ons will go live.

For people who have recently joined us (including authors of new add-ons
which will be released in a few days) or for those who'd like to help out in
future updates, let me explain how the quarterly update cycle works:

Every quarter (spring, summer, fall, winter), the community add-ons
reviewers (currently I, Noelia Martinez, Bernd Dorer, Beqa, Alberto and
others) will designate a week as the quarterly update week, usually the last
week of January (winter/summer), April (spring/fall), July (summer/winter)
and October (fall/spring). One of the days in that week plus-or-minus five
to seven days will be set as the update day (for October 2015, there are
two: 17th for localization updates and 21st for the new releases to help
control website traffic mostly because of the new VLC add-on), set
approximately three weeks prior after discussing with the community. In case
of October, earlier in the month we set the update day to the week of the
21st after gathering input from new and existing add-on writers and users
(including Javi and Abdel).

The quarterly update process is as follows:

1. A quarterly update day will be selected after a discussion with
add-on writers, reviewers and users on various channels (currently this list
is used for date setting discussion). This must be done about three weeks
prior to the update day (a week for comments, followed by at least two weeks
of testing and review (the latter is the case if new add-ons are scheduled
to go live on the update day)).

2. Once the date has been chosen, the release reviewer (currently I)
will pass out a list of add-ons to receive quarterly updates. This includes
add-ons with localization updates or new add-ons the add-on author(s) would
like to see them go live on that day. Other add-on authors and users are
more than welcome to submit suggestions, including requesting new add-ons
(note that these must be in the development queue (under active review) and
hopefully be in stable condition by the quarterly update day).

3. On the update day, the release reviewer (I) will go through each
add-on, pulling commits from stable branches to make sure they are up to
date (called add-on check-in; this is in progress as we speak). Then the
reviewer will change build vars dictionary (buildVars.py) to update the
add-on version (minor for maintenance or l10n updates, major if the add-on
author requested it). Throughout the day you'll see version commits for
various add-ons (I usually sign the commit, tag the release and generate the
add-on installer at the same time, then I do Git push twice (first is the
commit hash, the second is the tag)).

4. Once the installers for the updated add-ons are ready, the release
reviewer will pull addonFiles repo, modify the contents of the repo (add-on
file renames, adding new add-on files, updating get.php) and will commit the
quarterly update commit (several add-ons will change in one commit).

5. If readme for add-ons have changed, the release reviewer will update
Screen Reader Translations (SRT) SVN (Subversion) repo so the website
entries for the updated add-ons will reflect the add-on readme.

6. Once these are done, the release reviewer will send out an email to
this list, informing the community that new add-ons are available or
existing add-ons were updated, listing updated add-ons and their new
versions (in case of new add-ons, a short description of the add-on will be
included, and for major version releases, a brief description of what's new
and changed will be provided; I also send out a tweet informing the wider
base of users of add-on updates).

New and changed add-ons: the next email will be a news announcement
detailing new and changed add-ons. Here are some of the add-ons that are
ready for today's maintenance and l10n update:

.BitChe 2.4.

.Emoticons 4.2.

.Emule 2.7.

.GoldWave

.Resource Monitor

New add-ons to be released on the 20th/21st include:

.Day of the week

.Columns Review (graduated to stable branch)

.VLC.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Joseph

[AI] Plustek OpticBook 3800

2015-10-18 Thread Ekinath Khedekar
Dear Friends,

Has anybody used
Plustek OpticBook 3800
Scanner to scan their books?

Is it VI friendly? Is it fast? Does it give best of OCR results? Is it
bulky or lean?

What is the best and fastest way to scan and convert paper print into
soft copies (Docx)?

Please let me know. My university consultant has suggested the
abovementioned scanner. I need to take call in some time about it?

Hi

Thank you for the reply.

I am going to get Abby Find Reader. Would it be still friendly.

So do you mean, that it will only scan pages in JPGs/PDFs and then I
need to convert them in Docx?

What should I do to get direct results in docx?

Regards

[AI] kurzweil versus Abby find reader?

2015-10-18 Thread Ekinath Khedekar
Hi Guys,

Pardon my ignorance, but which is the best OCR software kurzzweil or
Abby Find Reader?

I am planning to request my university to offer me scanner+Printer, so
which OCR would be able to couple up best with the scanner such as HP
M500 or Cannon laser shot…

Of course hardware need to be accessible and easy to connect with my
lap top and OCR results should be quick and best. Too demanding? )

Please contribute in the best decision.

Thank you

Have no idea about other softwares, I used with kurzweil.
After scanning the book you can save directly to word files under
kurzweil save options.
hope this helps.
